Ok, I'm not sure if this is the radio show you're talking about, but Planet Money has an episode about an entire beach of sand that was stolen. It's actually really interesting and they go into a decent amount of depth about the problem in the episode. The problem isn't so much a sand crisis, per say, because a lot of the places the sand is going aren't critical in any sort of way (beach resorts replacing sand so that the resort looks pristine, for example). Some of it is more important because silicone for computer chips and concrete for construction both require a certain type of sand, and the sand in deserts is generally too fine.

You might want to check to see if they're even allowed to have two fridges. My college won't allow that unless it's medically necessary due to allergies or something like that.

The low drama places I've been have all been fairly active show barns, so, who knows. Eventing does seem on average less drama, but a lot of it is luck too.

It's really dependent on the barn you're at, but there're definitely a lot of places with drama. It's like a lot of other sports, except that everything is magnified because it's so expensive.

I don't know your trainer, obviously, but it wouldn't actually surprise me if they were serious statements. There's a lot of crazy out there.

Obviously this is dependent on the culture of that barn, but you should probably ask whoever the working student is working for first. Otherwise, Camp Trainer may be seen as trying to poach the working student.

I'm going to go with not ok but also in the realm of normal. Horse people are crazy. It's not really abnormal for working students/assistants to be treated like sh*t, either. I've personally overall had really good experiences, but only as a result of a lot of luck and being very careful about investigating barns before riding/working there. I think the craziness is a combination of things, really, but mostly it's money. Horses are expensive and clients can be unreasonable and being a trainer pays horribly - with that combination, I think crazy people last longer, lol. If you're thinking about changing trainers, I'd really recommend investigating any barn within reasonable commuting distance. It can give you an idea of exactly what you do want and you might find trainers you didn't know about before. I don't think the horse sounds that bad. If you want to go to Camp Trainer and she doesn't have time for full training, maybe you could try half training or see if there's an advanced student who could flat the horse for you a few times a week? I know I'm generally happy to pick up a couple extra rides a week, provided the horse isn't truly horrible (along the lines of bucking with serious intent or rearing and nearly flipping) and I'm pretty competent.

A lot of people just stay where their horses are, if they have them at school, honestly. Either that or they live close enough to easily go back and forth between school and home. This partly depends on your board situation too - full board or not, etc. Also, where I am, getting short term board for the summer wouldn't be much of an issue.

Not IHSA! This was a separate club. My school is in horse country - we have a polo club, an eventing club, an IHSA team (western and English), an IDA team, a rodeo team, a horse racing club, and a saddle seat team. I haven't done IHSA because it's quite pricy at my school, due to fees and lesson prices. I can't speak directly to that. Anyway, I have found more luck with looking directly at barns, but ymmv of course.

Swoosh is a word. It's more recognizable in pop culture referring to the Nike swoosh, obviously, but I think its actual definition fits what you're looking for?

Here's a list of IHSA teams, if that helps. Y'all are Zone 8, regions 1& 2 - all the way at the bottom of the page. Does she ride hunter/jumper or another discipline? Honestly, just about any college is going to have people that ride. What I found more useful was to look at barns and trainers in the immediate area around the school to find a good fit in that respect and then I met people at the farm. My school does have a club focused on the discipline I ride in, but it wasn't a good fit. There was a lot of money, a lot of buying high five figure 'made' horses, and a lot of people paying full board at the high end boarding barns. I ride on much more of a shoestring budget than that, lol.

Quant is weird and it's more tricky word problems than actual content. It was all Algebra I and Geometry + some data analysis / graph reading type stuff. Definitely no trig and no Algebra II that I noticed. Did he use the free practice tests offered by ETS? Those were accurate within 2pts of each section for me.

I loved AP Macro through PAH and then (fairly minimally) self studied AP Micro. I felt like the solid background I had in macro made it easy to self study for micro. I got 5's on both exams.

I usually have multiple alarms. He might look at the Alarmy app for his phone too. It's one of the few things that nearly always wakes me up, lol.

Texas Tech requires a 3.5 GPA to keep the scholarship and also requires at least 15 credit hours a semester. Those things would scare me off; I'd consider them doable in general, but one bad semester could have a huge impact. UA seems to only require a 3.0 GPA and no certain number of credit hours per semester.

Ah, revising my statement, the National Merit scholarship is no longer full ride. It's full tuition + 10k housing stipend first two years. FWIW, housing is fairly cheap in Lexington and there's a lot within walking distance of campus. Here is the current list of scholarships.

University of Kentucky has a full ride for National Merit. Looks like an aerial studio too though I don't know how good it is. I'm studying math and I have not-quite a double major in computer science. I love the math department; all my professors have been great. They also took every single dual enrollment course I had and almost every AP (it's really hard to get out of freshman comp; my AP English classes only counted for general English credits, which was useless).

Yes - this. If she's only taken Calc I (?), she does not really know if she will like upper level math.
