  1. So much fun I am currently converting Dd bedroom into a sewing room. Still has some of her stuff in it, but I am loving having the sewing machine set up all the time and projects on the go
  2. Hugs the dentist did a great job. twin 2 had to have one of his front teeth rebuilt like that after twin 1 punched him in the mouth. His tooth broke jagged , like a vampire tooth. we were never told to not use it for biting. Twin 2 has been eating crunchy things like apples and raw carrots with it for over a year now.
  3. Mostly people in Australia at the moment who have Covid are younger, and have very mild symptoms. At least that is what we are being told. It is only nsw no longer testing to see what variant. Other states still are
  4. Apparently there is not a single case of omicron in hospital here in Australia atm. And all cases are very very mild
  5. Isn’t it funny( in a sarcastic way) that they ( Aussie politicians)keep saying it is part of the plan….don’t panic …..it was part of the plan. makes you want to bang a few heads together.
  6. https://www.9news.com.au/world/omicron-south-africa-is-over-the-curve-says-chair-of-national-medical-association/58c36efc-3035-473f-877d-7b91853dc06a South Africa is reporting they are over the curve. Hospitalisation and deaths way less than delta
  7. If you like the railway children have you thought about other Nesbit books, five children and it was a hit here. Though they were very disappointed to see the tv series afterwards. Asked me to turn it off as they said the it looked like a dead monkey and was giving them bad dreams.
  8. My boys are loving The Famous Five series at the moment. Great if you want children using British accents, saying they are having a ‘jolly good time’ looking for secret passageways and asking why are they always drinking ginger beer.
  9. Would love you to go down that rabbit hole and let us all know.
  10. In Australia the last few times the weather has made a huge difference. Don’t think it will this time, everyone( in Victoria at least) has been mostly locked down and limited to their state for the last 2 years ( state to state travel had practically been completely halted). Now state to state travel is allowed and just about every single Aussie is traveling ( exaggeration). It is spreading like wildfire.
  11. We have hardwood floors through the house. We have large woollen Turkish rugs. It protects the floor. because my dh has multiple chemical allergies we had to use a natural varnish. One based on orange oil. It scratches. the sun does slowly discolour the floor. If you don’t want that you can draw the curtains every day. I prefer as much natural light as possible. Though we do have a roofed verandah on the the 3 sides of the house that get direct sunlight.
  12. One thing to remember about South Africa is it is SUMMER in the Southern Hemisphere at the moment.
  13. could the child have FASD? FASD is lack of brain development in utero caused by alcohol use by mother . It is a permanent disability (like missing a limb) one of my twins ( age 10) has huge trouble with letters and numbers. he has been doing extensive therapy for quite a few years. The speech pathologist made a mimes to go with every letter. like a f is a fish jumping out of the water - the cross part of the f is the water. there is a whole body action to go with this as well and drawings . the speech pathologist made each mime with twin 2 so they have personal meaning for him. I made some for numbers. like 7 is a man walking along that doesn't watch where he is going and falls down a cliff. 8 is a racing car track. we haven't progressed past 11 and he needs extensive scaffolding and lots of manipulatives to do the simplest of math. Twins 2 still recites the mime to himself to remember how to form the letters , it is chunky - but the speech pathologist assures me that it will get quicker . twins 2 can sort of read- if I point to each word, prompt him the second he gets stuck on a letter and hold a strip of paper under the line we are reading, gently touch him and remind him to look at the words every second word. then he can read a book like frog and toad. it is very slow. because twin 2 is fascinated with books he has a C-pen reader to help access text , uses apps that have stories where the word lights up as it is read and listens to hours of talking books a day. the poor guy had a meltdown the other day because he will be turning 11 soon and he thought 6 was after 10. he was devastated, thinking he was going backwards. it is so hard to sometimes to work out what has upset him , then try and explain to him We do see a developmental optometrist and are using medication as well. I haven't seen any academic improvement with using medication with twin 2 but twin one jumped a full grade in the first 2 weeks of using medication. twin one doesn't have trouble recognizing numbers or letters and is reading at a end of grade 1 level.
  14. You could use them under plant pots on the verandah. Then every time you water the plants you can think of that relative that is what I did, but I didn’t have that many
  15. In my state a diploma of nursing was offered as a free course last year. No cap on the number of people who could apply. Those people are now doing placement in hospitals. Also people doing a degree in nursing to become registered nurses can do some work in hospitals in their final year in lieu of study. It really increased the pool of nurses
  16. There will be data out of Australia very very soon. Like in a few days. Particularly NSW. They have decided to go with let it rip and the jump in numbers in just 5 days is staggering. From 150 to just under 2500. They not only are letting it rip, but have dropped using masks, no longer doing QR check ins and as of today are not going to test for what variant. Just assuming it is mostly omicron
  17. I see a huge difference between someone dressed up as an animal and someone no longer using a toilet but using a cat litter box. there is dress up and there is mental confusion.
  18. That is terrific news congratulations 🎉
  19. I know a fictional book that illustrates mental illnesses
