  1. Thanks for this! My youngest uses and prefers Horizons, (even though I try to supplement with MM) and I was beginning to think I had made a detrimental choice. I need to get off the boards. :tongue_smilie:
  2. Are there other writing programs that may be a better fit for my older children? I was mainly looking at WWE since I will be starting it with my youngest. IEW? WS? This writing thing is giving me a headache.
  3. We use LC, but do not use the DVDs, just a pronunciation CD. So far we are doing well with it.
  4. My older sons are both doing Rod & Staff English right now, and I really like the program. I do think they need a bit more writing, though, especially my 10 yo who is having more problems. I'm thinking of adding WWE to Rod and Staff. I'm planning to buy the text to try to place them. Do you think this is necessary, or should I start at level 1 or 2? Also, would you drop the Rod and Staff written activities if you were doing WWE, or do them both? Do they work well together?
  5. Regarding the size of the dog. We have a little Papillon (between 6.5 and 7.5 lbs) and she's done fine with my three sons. She knows when to get out of the way, and they know to respect the dog. They certainly play with her, but don't "rough-house."
  6. No...he just read the story. However, he was able to tell me about the math related to the story and how it was used. We will go back chapter by chapter and do the problems. :001_smile:
  7. I was going to put a few things up on HSC this week for the first time, so it sounds like I'll have to keep an eye out for these scams. Is it really that common? I mean, most of the time, there aren't issues, right?
  8. Our family, too. :001_smile: We are in the midst of learning it in Latin! We thought it would be fun to surprise everyone at Thanksgiving.
  9. So after hearing all of the rave reviews of Life of Fred, I bought Fractions and Decimals for my older sons. I was going to substitute LOF one day a week instead of Saxon/MM. I went to check on him in his room before bed tonight after he had been reading for awhile, and found him reading the decimals book after I had given him the fractions book today. I asked him why he was looking at the wrong one, and he told me he finished the entire book today! I asked him a few questions about it, and he told me the whole story, lol, all about Fred, the bike, and everything else. Now he's a few chapters into the next one. Needless to say, the books are a big hit at our house. I think I'll have to keep the next few with me so he's not trying to get through calculus at age 12.
  10. Congrats!! I love the name, Sienna...:001_smile:
  11. It's not you...I was waiting for her to fall out of her shirt. :001_huh:
  12. They were great for my older boys, but a little difficult for my youngest. I know they are coming out with "jr" notebooks right now. I know at least one subject is available already.
  13. Thanks for all of the information! I think we'll give them a try...:001_smile:
  14. Has anybody used these books? My first grader is doing ETC 2 and 2.5 right now, and will soon move to 3. Are these book just reading comprehension? When did you start? :001_smile:
  15. My first grader is doing 2 & 2.5 with no problems, and will soon be on 3.
  16. I chose ecclesiastical since my older sons are doing Latina Christiana. I think it will be a fairly easy change in high school if we chose to do a classical program. I know what you mean about the w/v.
  17. We have juice once in a while, but we try to limit it. The boys will usually drink milk or water.
  18. That's my husband! I just read that to him, and he shook his head in agreement. :)
  19. I do have the TM. Honestly, the only things I use are the extra worksheets in the back. There are some word searches, etc. to help implement some of the vocabulary. You'll have so much fun with SS Latin. My son loves it! Also, if you have a way of getting the "Monkey Match Latin" game that I bought with it, it would be a lot more useful than the TM. I've heard some people say they made the cards on their own, as well. Here's the game: http://classicalacademicpress.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_6_12&products_id=56 Good luck!
  20. My youngest DS LOVES Song School Latin. He asks to do it everyday. I also bought the Monkey Match game that goes with it, and we love playing it a couple times a day to help practice each lesson.
  21. All of these snake threads lately. I would have left the state, but that's just me. I'm in the 'stand on a chair and scream' crowd.
  22. I'm stealing this. I have 3 boys (& Scouts) that are the same ages as yours. My youngest just turned 7. :001_smile:
  23. Counter-clockwise for the dancer, and 59% Left 41% Right for the other test. I'm thinking my engineer husband would be 99% to 1%.
