  1. Love this! Things always start to get out of hand by the time our gifts, Santa gifts, and all the gifts from relatives add up...we were thinking of doing something similar.
  2. Being our first year, I've made quite a few changes in the last 6 weeks. The only thing I took out was Apologia Elementary Science. Otherwise, things I've added: MM and LOF as math supplements, FLL 1&2, SS Latin, ETC
  3. I had a very strong letdown, and this is how my boys would react. I'd have to express some milk into a burp cloth for a moment or two before nursing, and it would help. Now, I've never had a child with reflux, so I can't comment on that. I hope things work out!
  4. This is my first year homeschooling, but so far my older sons are doing well with Rod & Staff (they actually don't hate it :001_smile:). My younger son is willingly working through FLL 1&2. I do mix it up a bit when I know he's mastered a concept, or when he needs to work on one.
  5. DS 12 takes a shower every day. DS 10 and 7 whenever needed...maybe 4 times a week?
  6. We are using Horizons Math 1. It does get more difficult fairly quickly, and you could easily skip review questions that you think would be redundant to your child.
  7. We're doing both Classical Roots and Latin.
  8. For my 1st grader, I ordered grades 1-3 in the blue package. I got all the supplement for only $38.00, through 3rd grade. I'm really happy with with MM!
  9. 5th grade DS: BJU Handwriting Spelling Power Rod & Staff Grammar IEW Writing Vocabulary From Classical Roots Robinson Booklist and Beutiful Feet Literature
  10. I went really cheap and bought just the student's books. It's worked well for us.:001_smile:
  11. My plan is to have them do their regular lesson from Saxon every day, and then do a lesson from Fred on Saturday for "fun." They do consider it fun right now. :) I'd give a couple of MM worksheets a day and try to compliment their Saxon lesson or cover other areas where I think they need extra work.
  12. After more research last night, I'm looking to order IEW SWI B for the boys. How's that for acronyms? Oh, and we also found an Ebook to use with our Beautiful Feet geography course for only $10.00 from IEW. I also got the Student Resource Book for free with the purchase. It seems like a great way to get our feet wet with the program.
  13. My two older sons already eat more than I do, lol. Since we have three, we figure we'll have to take a mortgage out on the house.
  14. :iagree:I've heard the exact same thing about it being non-secular. Not overtly Christian, though. We've just started fractions, so I can't help too much at this point. We love it, though!
  15. My older sons use Saxon for math, and we're quite happy with it. I've also recently added a Life of Fred supplement once a week or so. Here's the problem...I just purchased Math Mammoth for my 7 yo to use with Horizons to make sure we don't have any holes. I really like it. I took a look at some of the 5-7th grade work from Math Mammoth, and I like the slightly different approach they take with some topics. I'm thinking they could work well together. Anyone use 2 math supplements? I like everything! I think I need to hide my wallet and turn off the computer.
  16. What is my (DS) 10 doing in your house? I can't help you with Singapore since we use Saxon, but you just described my middle son. He's such an accelerated learner, but I spend half the day trying to convince him to write anything down. He's making me bald and gray at the same time. **pulling out hair**
  17. LOF (Awesome so far!!) SS Latin (Back ordered at Rainbow Resource ) I'm excited every time I get a box, though!
  18. I'm having kind of a fit trying to figure out a writing program for my older sons, aged 10 and 12. The older one is more of a natural writer, and the younger one is more reluctant, but very creative. We're using Rod & Staff for English, and I don't want to change that since I'm happy with the program. It seems to me like most families like to supplement the writing from Rod & Staff, though. I've narrowed it down to the following options: 1) Begin IEW (Some of the theme units seem like they may interest my kids) 2) Classical Writing (This one makes me a bit nervous ) 3) Add WWE at levels 2,3 or 4? 4) Leave writing to Rod & Staff since they are more or less math and science oriented, anyway. I've eliminated a few others such as MCT, Writing Strands, and Write Shop for various different reasons. Any advice??
  19. We're thinking the same thing. It would help the us all to not have to get used to the system again after months off.
  20. I sorry I can't help you with another program, but we use Latina Christiana without the DVD. I've heard a lot of complaints, but then I've had a couple of years of high school Latin, myself. There's a lot of good programs...this may help: http://www.homeschoolchristian.com/curricula/reviews/latincomparison.php Good Luck!
  21. That tells me that I woke up at about the same time as you!
  22. My 10 and 12 yo boys do Rod and Staff English by themselves, and only ask questions when they need to to. Then again, Science, History and Latin are teacher-intensive.
  23. We've used Explode the Code and Bob Books for my youngest, and we didn't use a "formal" phonics course with my two older children. We just read to them. :001_smile:
  24. I honestly think that you need to research a region and not make broad assumptions about an entire country if you're choosing where to live. For example, I live in N. WI. I guarantee my crime rate is lower that many larger cities in Canada. We have long winters, and some of the friendliest people I've met. Now, I've visited some larger cities in the US, and I was shocked at some of the people we met. I felt like I was in another country.:tongue_smilie:
  25. We have to schedule by material/lessons. My sons could distract themselves with a pencil eraser for an hour to get out of English if I didn't specify what needed to get completed. (Usually a reasonable amount. If it's a very long lesson, we'll do it over two days.) I work with my 7 yo constantly, so we'll go by time a lot.
