  1. I never saw the 20% code, but if you don't find it, PRES10 was good for 10% extra off if it's still valid.
  2. You have to administer a standardized every *third* year, starting in 3rd grade (so, after 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th). You do not have to report scores to anyone, just retain the records. To my knowledge, there is no way to opt out.
  3. Here's the one I use. I got it from my MIL, who found it in an old Dutch Amish recipe book. We've been making them for years and years : ) Whoopie Pies 4 cups Flour 2 cups sugar 1 cup Shortening 1 cup Cocoa Powder 2 tsp. Baking Soda 2 tsp. Salt 2 each Eggs 1 cup Sour Milk 1 cup Hot Water 2 tsp. Vanilla Extract Filling 4 cups Confectioner's Sugar ¾ cup Butter 1 Egg Vailla Salt a little less than ¼ cup Milk 1. Cream sugar and shortening. 2. Add eggs. 3. Sift all the dry ingredients together, except for the soda. 4. Alternate adding the dry ingredients with the milk & vanilla. 5. Add soda to hot water and add to mixture. 6. Drop by soup spoonful onto cookie sheet. Bake at 400 for 8 minutes. 7. For filling: Beat together all ingredients until forms a stiff icing.
  4. The most useful, albeit completely different, gift I received upon highschool graduation was a toolbox full of household tools : D
  5. We have this bar and these hanging cups from Ikea to hold small things (like math manipulatives, word tiles, magnets, etc), and I think it would probably work wonderfully for your system. I love your task board!
  6. I use Deodad, which is basically a purchased version of the coconut oil/baking soda deodorant discussed above. It works great for me--I live in metro Atlanta area, where it gets quite hot, although not quite as hot as you've mentioned! I would caution though that the coconut oil can definitely stain clothing. You have to make certain it's dry before you put on any clothing, and if you wear fitted tees and such, you may still have a problem. It hasn't happened frequently enough for me to stop using it (I've been using it for about 3-4 years), but I have lost a couple of items to stains. Once they go through the dryer, they are incredibly hard to get out.
  7. After trying (and not liking) Tom's, Burt's, and any other deodorant I could find at Whole Foods, I found Deodad. It is the only thing I've found that consistently works for both me and DH.
  8. We would like to participate again this year! I've got two kiddos - an 8 year old boy and an almost 7 year old girl. I'll PM our address to you. Thanks for organizing again!
  9. We participated last year as well, and both kids loved it! We're in for this year. If there's anything I can do to help organize, please let me know.
  10. You should be able to go to that person's page and see a button called "+1 Friend Request Sent." If you hover over it, you will see an options menu, at the bottom of which is "Cancel Friend Request."
  11. We love HTTYD also! Despicable Me, Megamind and The Lorax have also been hits here. Tangled (even my son liked it ;)), Monsters v. Aliens, The Princess Bride, Night at the Museum are a few others we like. A little different, but just as awesome are many of the Hayao Miyazaki films, especially Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky. He also directed Ponyo, Spirited Away, and was involved in The Secret World of Arrietty as the screenwriter. If you like the Miyazaki films, another similar movie is The Cat Returns. Also, Whisper of the Heart.
  12. We spent last Christmas there. The main thng that I noticed that made tourists stand out more was wearing anything with a college logo (sweatshirts, hats, etc). It actually is true that many New Yorkers wear black a good bit of the time. That said, many places you might visit as a tourist (Times Square, Ellis, Central Park, Roosevelt center, etc) will be populated mostly with tourists, so no one will notice if you look touristy :) I was very happy to have waterproof boots, a really warm jacket and my gloves and scarf.
  13. I've traveled extensively with my husband by "tagging along" on his business trips :) Most companies are fine with upgrading rooms as long as you pay the difference. If my DH's company is booking the room, we have them book the upgrade. If DH is booking his own travel/accomodations, we contact the hotel and upgrade ourselves. When we've had the company do it, they typically prepay their portion of the bill and we pay the remainder when we depart the hotel. When we are booking, we pay the entire bill and expense only a portion when being reimbursed. For meals, we usually ask for 2 checks to keep it simple. For appetizers, we typically have it split 50/50 on the 2 bills.
  14. Thanks, everyone! I don't have to have it for a little while, so I'm going to keep watching the sites you've suggested. :001_smile:
  15. 100 Days of Real Food blog offers a discount: $10 off 1 year or $5 off your first 3 month order. Hope that helps! Allie
  16. Title really says it all. I want to buy level 2, and wasn't sure if I should hold out for a discount or not. Thanks! Allie
  17. :iagree:Best sports bra I've found for larger bOOks. I usually get them from figleaves.com. I rarely see them on sale anywhere, unfortunately.
  18. I live in Atlanta. PP's were correct in saying the aquarium, World of Coke and CNN center are within walking distance of each other. The aquarium is awesome, and my family also loved the CNN center. The World of Coke is okay - but I honestly wouldn't pay $16 for admission. It includes a quick tour - a docent tells you about some of the history and shows you some memorabilia - then you see a short film. The highlight is the tasting room where you can try Coca Cola products from all over the world. The Imagine-It Children's Museum is neat, but definitely skews younger than your DS. The Center of Puppetry Arts is also in the vicinity. Fairly close by are the High Museum of Art and Atlantic Station. Atlantic Station includes lots of shopping, dining, etc., and is where IKEA is located. Also here is a good IMAX theatre. Do you know in which area you are staying? If you are on the East side of town, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History is wonderful. Also near this area (at Emory University) is a wonderful little museum called the Michael C. Carlos. They have an awesome Egyptian collection. Northwest of the city is a great museum called Tellus. The Zoo is a little south of the city. It's a good zoo - the Pandas are a huge attraction, especially. Grant Park, next to the Zoo, is a great area as well. Also located right next to the Zoo is the Cyclorama and Civil War Museum. Stone Mountain Park is awesome. It's a great mix of history, nature, and fun. The Citypass is definitely a good deal, depending on which attractions you choose. You can also check out deals on www.atlantaonthecheap.com. Hope this helps! Have a great visit! Allie ETA: I drive frequently in Atlanta, and have also taken Marta. Driving is not too difficult, although I will say that parking in the city can be difficult/expensive. Parking at the aquarium will cost around $10. If you do decide to drive, I would probably pick out a couple of parking options near your destination using the interactive parking map. Marta is perfectly fine/safe, especially during the daytime. I don't think that I would travel on it alone/with my kids *at night*, though.
  19. My kids (6 & 8) love many of the Dick King-Smith books. The Water Horse and A Mouse Called Wolf, in particular.
  20. Definitely the 2nd one. You won't be able to put coals on the first one, so you can't make things like cobblers!
  21. :iagree:My DD is 6 1/2 and this is what we have used with her for her difficulties with the r, s & th sounds. It has worked really well for us.
