  1. I never saw the 20% code, but if you don't find it, PRES10 was good for 10% extra off if it's still valid.
  2. You have to administer a standardized every *third* year, starting in 3rd grade (so, after 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th). You do not have to report scores to anyone, just retain the records. To my knowledge, there is no way to opt out.
  3. Here's the one I use. I got it from my MIL, who found it in an old Dutch Amish recipe book. We've been making them for years and years : ) Whoopie Pies 4 cups Flour 2 cups sugar 1 cup Shortening 1 cup Cocoa Powder 2 tsp. Baking Soda 2 tsp. Salt 2 each Eggs 1 cup Sour Milk 1 cup Hot Water 2 tsp. Vanilla Extract Filling 4 cups Confectioner's Sugar ¾ cup Butter 1 Egg Vailla Salt a little less than ¼ cup Milk 1. Cream sugar and shortening. 2. Add eggs. 3. Sift all the dry ingredients together, except for the soda. 4. Alternate adding the dry ingredients with the milk & vanilla. 5. Add soda to hot water and add to mixture. 6. Drop by soup spoonful onto cookie sheet. Bake at 400 for 8 minutes. 7. For filling: Beat together all ingredients until forms a stiff icing.
  4. The most useful, albeit completely different, gift I received upon highschool graduation was a toolbox full of household tools : D
  5. We have this bar and these hanging cups from Ikea to hold small things (like math manipulatives, word tiles, magnets, etc), and I think it would probably work wonderfully for your system. I love your task board!
  6. I use Deodad, which is basically a purchased version of the coconut oil/baking soda deodorant discussed above. It works great for me--I live in metro Atlanta area, where it gets quite hot, although not quite as hot as you've mentioned! I would caution though that the coconut oil can definitely stain clothing. You have to make certain it's dry before you put on any clothing, and if you wear fitted tees and such, you may still have a problem. It hasn't happened frequently enough for me to stop using it (I've been using it for about 3-4 years), but I have lost a couple of items to stains. Once they go through the dryer, they are incredibly hard to get out.
  7. After trying (and not liking) Tom's, Burt's, and any other deodorant I could find at Whole Foods, I found Deodad. It is the only thing I've found that consistently works for both me and DH.
  8. We would like to participate again this year! I've got two kiddos - an 8 year old boy and an almost 7 year old girl. I'll PM our address to you. Thanks for organizing again!
  9. We participated last year as well, and both kids loved it! We're in for this year. If there's anything I can do to help organize, please let me know.
  10. You should be able to go to that person's page and see a button called "+1 Friend Request Sent." If you hover over it, you will see an options menu, at the bottom of which is "Cancel Friend Request."
  11. We love HTTYD also! Despicable Me, Megamind and The Lorax have also been hits here. Tangled (even my son liked it ;)), Monsters v. Aliens, The Princess Bride, Night at the Museum are a few others we like. A little different, but just as awesome are many of the Hayao Miyazaki films, especially Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky. He also directed Ponyo, Spirited Away, and was involved in The Secret World of Arrietty as the screenwriter. If you like the Miyazaki films, another similar movie is The Cat Returns. Also, Whisper of the Heart.
  12. We spent last Christmas there. The main thng that I noticed that made tourists stand out more was wearing anything with a college logo (sweatshirts, hats, etc). It actually is true that many New Yorkers wear black a good bit of the time. That said, many places you might visit as a tourist (Times Square, Ellis, Central Park, Roosevelt center, etc) will be populated mostly with tourists, so no one will notice if you look touristy :) I was very happy to have waterproof boots, a really warm jacket and my gloves and scarf.
