  1. I'll have to take a look at it. I've never hear d of it. Can you tell me what the program is like? Thanks!
  2. Okay we got about half way through McRuffy Phonics and ds was dragging his heels. It seemed to go really slowly too. I felt he could go faster. So I pulled out my 100 EZ lessons book. I've used it some with him in the past and liked it, but he did't like all the words on the pg. Now he is older and doesn't seem to have issues with that. So we are going through it quickly and he likes it. So what would you use after 100 EZ. I was looking at LLATL Red. Any other suggestions?
  3. Well I am looking for next yr but i was thrown for a loop this yr when most of what I picked didn't work. We seem to have a nice balance at the moment. So the plan is to keep the things that are working for next yr if that is possible. I'm feeling frustrated at the moment.
  4. This morning He told his 3 yr old brother that he once was a sperm and that they should pretend that they are sperm and racing to the egg and whoever got to the egg first got to be the baby  We'll have to be having a talk to him about not playing this at the next homeschool co-op! My sister said the game reminds her of the old Rosalind Russel movie Auntie Mame. It is quite funny and strange.
  5. Yes my ds LOL. I was tired. No my dh is 48 and yes he knows what they are for LOL
  6. My tiger cats have been named: Pickles, Bonkers, Wendall, Clovis. TS Elliot has a neat poem that has a whole bunch of names. Jellylorum is one of them.
  7. We got a tiger kitty when I was a kid and we named her Wendy and then found out that it was a boy. We changed it to Wendall. LOL
  8. Well I showed him a coupled of You Tube videos, so he could see the sperm fertilize the egg. It left off the how it gets there. He said those sperm are inside me? How do they get in the girl? Do they just shoot out? I just about died laughing. I said basically yes. He thought they shot out his belly button. LOL I said no and decided to leave it at God has a way of putting them in the girl. I really think anymore info at this age is too much at this point. He is just a very technical little guy and likes to know the details. He watches surgeries on TV etc. What do you think is the appropriate age to start telling them stuff? I always figured I would tell them stuff as the questions came up, but they came up a little sooner than I expected.
  9. I told him that they were for making babies and then he said he was a boy and didn't have babies only girls do. I said that it makes something that God puts in the girl's tummy to help make the baby. He then said well he is never getting married or having kids. I told that was fine and no body was telling him to. He asked if the reason it hurt when you squeeze them was because there are little babies in there and he wanted to know if he was hurting them when he did that. So he is very confused. LOL I like the idea of talking about cells. He loves studying the human body and wants to be an eye doctor. He is always talking about cells so that would be a great way to approach it with him.
  10. My dh is about to turn 6. Anyway he keeps asking what testicles are for. I've tried to skirt the issue, but to no avail. One day he decided that they were to let him know when to go pee. I guess he changed his mind on that so he is asking again. Does anyone have any advice or children's books that you can recommend that might be generic but have just enough info to satisfy him? Thanks!
  11. ds 5.5 is very visual and the lack of color in the games turned him off as soon as I opened the box. The size of the instruction manual turned me off. So I sold my RS games and bout The Mailbox Mix and Match Games. Ds5.5 loves it and is learning his math facts effortlessly. http://www.amazon.com/MIX-MATCH-GAMES-MATH-GR/dp/1562348035/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256921382&sr=8-3
  12. I let it go and now I have a 6 yr old that I have to constantly stay on top of to write correctly. He has a fist grip as well. The grips really didn't work for us either. The best thing that I've found is if you give them a small broken crayon then it forces them to use the right grip and takes less thought. The only problem is that my ds says he doesn't want to use a broken crayon. So if she doesn't care then I'd have her trace with the broken crayon. I also just ordered some crayon rocks from montessori services. They are crayons that look like pebbles or stones and they force the child to hold them correctly. Hopefully those will work for us since they ar cool crayons and not broken ones LOL
  13. Well this is only American but it is mainly picture books from each state. You might could combine it with something else to get the world. There is also the Truth quest guides or All through the Ages to help you pull something on you own. I think Living Books curriculum does do world and American history simultaneously. http://kreativesimplicity.com/frames_index.htm
  14. I haven't used Shurley, but I think that is scripted. Hake/Saxon is supposed to be indepth, but I don't know if it is scripted or not.
  15. RR just came out with their packages. I don't think there are plans that go with them. they just put together all the subjects so you would have too. If you look under complete curriculum you'll find it. Timberdoodle has come out with curriculum packages too. They also don't schedule it. I think they should. I think that might sell more packages.
  16. We tried Singapore 1A and it was no go from the beginning. We switched to Abeka 1st grade and it has been wonderful. The home education guide tells you everything you need to be doing and the pgs are colorful and have several different different kinds of problems which is great for my highly distractable ds.
  17. Well I was in a health/nutrition seminar one time and they said the amount of sugar in a can of soda is enough to wipe out your immune system. It really is bad and with the flu going around, I'd be putting a stop to it. My kids are little and they aren't allowed sodas. They are allowed 1 100% juice box a day and the rest of the day they can have milk or water. If they seem to be drinking a lot of milk I'll make start drinking more water. Caffeinated teas and sodas are also dehydrating. You need to drink 1/2 your body weight in oz of water a day. So if you weigh 100lbs you drink 50oz and it can't be caffeinated drinks they don't count.
  18. back in August I was at my wits end with my ds5.5. I decided I needed a break because I was losing it. I have never been away from my dc before. I requested that my dh watch them and my single sister and I got a hotel room at the Marriott, painted our toenails stayed up late watching movies and cross stitching. Then the next day we went shopping and to a movie. I came home that evening refreshed and ready to take care of the kids again. I got ds 5.5's behavior under control again and we are rolling right along. I've never been in your shoes as far as having kids on the spectrum. I'm not sure I'd medicate just because I want a break. I think I would just go take a break away from them.
  19. There's heart of dakota that I think is pretty easy to use. it won't keep you on the history cycle though. HOD would schedule everything out for you. None of the stuff you are using really looks time consuming other than RS math. I guess RSO could take up some time. You could get her a R&S text book and just have her read it. Don't do projects out of the SOTW guide.
  20. I also have a regular timer that is from Fly Lady and I've had it for a yr or two and it gets dropped and lost and refound and I've never had any problems with it.
