  1. It keeps showing that I have a new message, but when I look there isn't one. Anyone know why it is doing that?
  2. I have Muggins. I'll have to check out the spelling program. Where do you find it at?
  3. Okay, so I haven't been on here for about a year because I have to work full time and my mom homeschools the kids. I have always loved learning about new curriculum. I am a curriculum junkie:) So has anything new come out in the past year that I've missed? Enlighten me please:bigear: Thanks in advance!
  4. Tricia was there an assignment schedule to follow and was it written to the students? I knew they did their own Answer keys. I wasn't sure though if they had a course syllabus or something that says Day one do this in History, this in lit..... etc. She is needing to free up her time as well. She is homeschooling 7 and her day just drags on all day long especially when dealing with the 3 with special needs and there are English language issues as well since they were adopted from various countries.
  5. My mom is currently homeschooling 7 adopted children. She has used all Abeka. She likes the structure of it, but 3 of the kids have some cognitive problems and she needs something slower paced for those 3. The 16 yr old is doing 3rd grade Abeka, the 14 yr old is doing 6th grade Abeka and the almost 9 yr old is doing 2nd grade Abeka. It really has been a struggle this year for those three and my mom feels it is interfering with their bonding. I live with them and have observed everything and I think she needs to switch as well. I suggested either ACE or Alpha and Omega. If you have other suggestions, I'd like to hear them. Can anyone recommend one over the other? I know ACE is supposed to be slower paced and I think that alpha and Omega may be a little slower as well. For this situation the slower the better. Thanks!
  6. My mom has 4 children she currently uses Abeka with and likes it, but is needing the kids to be a little more independent next year since she has 3 special needs kids that take up a lot of time and energy. She is thinking about the class program. She is thinking about enrolling my 2 brothers who will be in 10th grade next year in the CLASS program and then my brother and sister who are going into 7th would do the family program where they aren't enrolled with a teacher. Can I get opinions on this program and also do you know if and when the manuals start being written to the student? Thanks!
  7. Can anyone compare the 2 or tell me why the like one or the other? Thanks!
  8. Can someone compare the 2 for me please? Which do you think is better? Thanks!
  9. I am going to be teaching a young 2nd grader who is easily overwhelmed. I will be teaching him 2 days per week for 1.5 hrs per day. The family is pretty relaxed and they are not Christian but they don't care if I use Christian materials is they are good. So I don't want it to be over the top Christian. I think Bible stories would be fine. I need spelling. grammar, writing, phonics, and reading. The mom just had a baby who is really fussy and has to be held a lot so she doesn't have a ton of time. English is also her 3rd language which is another reason she is having me teach him. What would you suggest I use? One of the things I'm looking at is LLATL red if I go with an all in one. But I'm also looking at things for if I want to piece it together myself. I guess there is also McRuffy I could look at for an all in one as well.
  10. Well the little boy is reading, it is just mainly sight based and so I just need to back track a little to make sure the phonics and spelling rules are covered. So if you only do it twice a week what does your teaching session look like?
  11. I'm going to be teaching a homeschooled 2nd grader all his LA. We will meet 2 days per week for 1.5 hrs. I'm trying figure out spelling. Do you think AAS could be implemented in that kind of setting? His mom wants me to be teaching him Phonics. English is her 3rd language and she just had a new baby so I can't burden her with too much stuff for her to do on her own time.
  12. I know some of you out there have used these. I want to here the good and the bad :)
  13. I need a book that says day one do this and day 2 do this etc. It wasn't laid out enough for me. But that is just my personality.
  14. I have the book that I'm about to list for sale. If you are interested you can pm me. I'll probably post it for sale sometime tomorrow.
  15. Can anyone give me their opinion on these 2. Which do you prefer? Also can you use BJU's Phonics without their reading program? I have some lit guides that I would like to use instead. Also which Language Arts program as a whole do you think is better between the 2? Thanks!
  16. I think that it becomes irrational when you dwell on it all the time and it incapacitates you in some way. I don't trust drugs either. I think there are alternatives to a lot of it.
  17. I don't know, we just did an experiment where you put tomato soup in a lid and then you swab something around the house and then rub it on the soup. After a couple of days it is growing some really nasty stuff.
  18. I'm livin' in a virtual world and now I'm a virtual girl....":D
  19. There is something called project Linus that I used to sew blankets for. Here is the link:http://www.projectlinus.org/
  20. Well hey at least you wouldn't have to worry about your tattoo starting to sag when you get older if you get it at 66 LOL.
  21. I couldn't do it, but then I've tried watching TV and using and exercise bike and I would realize after a while that I was no longer pedaling LOL. I'm not the best at multi tasking.
  22. The sprouts are actually poisonous. You can cut them out and cook the rest of the potato though. I usually cut them out if there are only 1 or 2 sprouts.
