  1. It looks interesting. http://www.bitesizephysics.com/
  2. I told him that we didn't have to worry about it, because she wouldn't start having kids til she was married and at that point she won't live with us anymore. He was okay once I said that. It is funny because it isn't like I'm having babies all the time and he knows I'm a girl.
  3. "Mom you know how you want to have a girl baby?" I say "Yes." He says "I'm not sure you should, because they lay babies." I think he thought we were going to have some kind of rabbit scenario on our hands LOL.
  4. My friend used only BJU K-12 and she scored extremely high on the math section in BJU. I don't think you need enrichment for it. It is a very good program. It teaches conceptually. I thought BJU had a vocab program for 7th? The same friend used all BJU all the way through and was a national merit scholar and great in al subjects. You don't need to supplement any of it. Also I kind of think that if you make her do all the writing she will eventually get used to it. You just may have to help her along until she finally gets it. OhElizabeth can answer that question better than me though.
  5. Never used those, but the LeapFrog DVD's are great for teaching letters and numbers.
  6. So how does a co-op class using this look? I'm thinking of joining a co-op next yr that requires mom's to teach something and that might be something I could do.
  7. OhElizabeth where did you read about the Physics first movement? I'd like to look into it. Thanks!
  8. Well I think I'm going to get Kinderbach for my ds 5.5 because I think he will enjoy watching it on TV and using and electronic keyboard.
  9. Hewitt Homeschooling has a syllabus that assigns reading and writing and research projects.
  10. Yeah we are going to do a mix of books for chem and physics this yr. I'm glad you advised me to wait on BJU until he is older. We did RS4K Pre level1 that I think i purchased from you LOL. That got him on the chemistry kick. I just ordered on pbs Hands-on Chem by Carson dellosa, i'm adding in Super science concoctions, Usborne chem book, Discovering Atoms and Moelecules by Zikes, Living Learning books chem, castle heights Cooking and science, Kitchen chemistry, a Drop around the World bk and guide, some magic school bus guides. For Physical science it will be very similar with LLB2, Hands-on earth, Zikes ocean book and landforms book, magic school bus guides, awesome ocean science, and Castle heights Particles in motion. I think I may borrow the Apologia books from my mom for some pretty pictures. I'm really hoping their phys/chem book will be out early 2010 so we can use it. I know that is a lot of books, but I'm planning on using that over the next several yrs. Ds tends to park on a topic for a long time before moving on. He was stuck on the life science for the last several yrs particularly human anatomy with botany coming in second. He doesn't like to study animals. Anyway so that is the plan for now. I'm just getting a feel for what I want to use in the future. Ds has wanted to be a dr for several yrs now and last July decided he is going to be an eye dr. So we will see what he ends up actually doing, but I'm trying to make sure he is well prepared for premed stuff if that is what he ends up wanting to do. Biology nearly killed me in college. Just reading the text book in highschool just doesn't cut it for really preparing you for a college class LOL.
  11. Here is an online Singapore math class. http://www.cybershala.com/ My mom used this with my brother's last year and loved it. http://www.pottersschool.org/
  12. It is for me. I like thinking ahead. I had originally planned to move ds5.5 into the BJU 1st grade science in Jan, but then you discouraged me LOL. Plus he wants to do chem and BJU doesn't really introduce that until junior high. I'm going to just do my own mix of chem and physics this yr. But I'm trying to map out my track. Oak meadow science has intrigued me and I thought I could add in creationism on my own to that. I actually used BJU in highschool independently, but all I remember doing was reading the material and answering the end of the chapter questions. I forgot BJU has samples on their website. I'll have to go check it out.
  13. Where did Apologia have the announcement of the 2 new books and what are they?
  14. I always expect History and science to cost more because of all the living books that go along with it and science equipment.
  15. They have a spot for a coupon code. So they must have started having them. I don't remember it in the past either.
  16. Which is more rigorous? I know BJU is christian and OM is secular. They both sound thorough. I like how it seems like OM has a writing component in it. BJU doesn't though right? Does OM have labs? Anyone use both before? Also if you have only used one can you tell what a typical lesson would be like in them. (I'm talking about the 5th grade and up levels) Thanks, Heather
  17. Well when I was growing up my friend's mom took the whole yr off of school when she had a baby in sept. It didn't hurt any of the kids. I would say you getting well is the top priority. I feel for you. I get these horrible fever blisters around my mouth and in my nose. I can't imagine having them in more places than that. :grouphug:
  18. I have a double mj in Business and History and to me it is worthless. The upper level math electives that I took in college are worth more to me than the degree. If he wants to do writing, I'd do technical writing. You can make a career out of that. I wish I would have done something like that instead. It seems like everyone these days is getting their MBA so I'm wondering how that will be perceived in the future as the market is flooded with them. My friend has a deree in English and she isn't really marketable either except for teaching positions.
  19. I know, that is one of my ds's favorite books, but it doesn't sound like the book at all. I hate it when the movies take 1 element from the book and then change the rest. I hated cheaper by the dozen too. The only part similar to the book was that they had a lot of kids. Nothing else was similar. it would have made a great movie had they stuck to the book.
