  1. I asked about a coupon code, but got this :( But, I guess there is a new program coming out!
  2. Mine are older, so this might not work. I let them stay up later on Friday only. If they ask to stay up later on any other night, they lose their Friday night. I only let them stay up an hour or so later than their bedtime to get rid of any crankiness the next day. I won't stand for grouches, that's MY job lol! But, since yours is younger, then I wouldnt expect him to be able to understand that. I agree that he should be able to stay up a little bit longer than the youngers, but not too much. Mom and dad still need alone time, too ;)
  3. I know these are not comparable products! I only want to shell out money for one of these, and I am trying to decide. I don't have a formal vocabulary program for my olders, but I also don't have a formal spelling program for my younger. She is currently working through OPGTR, and I do have some spelling programs that I can use, or fix one up for her from online. But, I like how AAS is also a type of reading program, from what I have read on the reviews. I also like the IDEA of dynamic literacy, but I dont know how practical it is. I do have a coupon code for it to be 25% off, but it is still pricey! My olders use sequential spelling and my younger is going to use wordly wise, so I am just looking for the other programs for them.
  4. Is it your 19 mo old that you are talking about? I had A girl who wouldnt talkl until she was almost THREE! When she started we couldnt get her to stop. My second girl was the way you describe, but not as violent. She got frustrated and cried a lot. Speech therapy did not help much, but gave us ideas. Try having pictures of food or whatever he needs, so he can go to a folder and point to what he wants. Talk to him more. When he wants something and you figure it out, say "you want the toy? Here is the blue truck!" or "you want crackers for a aback, here you go" etc. It doesn't last long, I promise. Unless there are other issues. We got help from First Steps, but programs in other states may vary.
  5. Try emptying it out into a strainer. The pieces get thrown into the trash, but liquid goes into the drain. Or save a butter bowl, etc to put it in and throw it all in the trash. I have septic, too but I have a disposal, we have lived here for two years and just got our tank pumped and they said it was fine. I do, however try to dump into the trash before the sink. Usually it is thick enough to throw away without any problems.
  6. I'm sorry you have to go through with this. :grouphug: Take the ideas you have read above and use only what you feel comfortable with. Dh would have taken everything out as soon as those words left her mouth. He expects respect, especially to me. I agree that she has had dreams about what she can afford and when they were "crushed" she went off. Hopefully she has apologized by now, but if my experience as a teenager tells me anything, i am willing to bet that she hasn't. It is not your fault for expecting your dd to grow up, especially when she wants out so bad. It could be a defense mechanism where she is trying to push you out of the way in order to feel less guilty about leaving? Just my thoughts.
  7. The freaking library and MALL was closed here!!!! DH and I knocked out 12+ inches of snow in our driveway in an hour. Including the snow that the plow pushed into it... :glare:
  8. So, those of you that have had this for awhile, how is it? I'm considering buying it with a coupon code that I received in the mail.
  9. Link doesn't work for me. I don't know what the extra cost is, so I can't help..
  10. I have two coupons for $5 off admission for up to six people. Pm me and I will give it to you. It says Carlsbad, CA is that where you are going? I know nothing about California geography :)
  11. They make lego storage containers. They are similar to the blastic drawer bins on wheels. There are a couple smell drawers and big drawers. They are expensive so buying the regular ones would be cheaper!
  12. Ugh! I've heard those popcorn ceilings were annoying. Sorry, I don't have hints on how to clean it, but if you took it off and painted, it would stay clean. I think you would have to use some sort of razor to get it off, then paint over the flat surface. I hope you find a solution!
  13. The "As Seen on TV" toothpaste dispensers are a pita to clean. They drip toothpaste onto the lever, and the kids still end up getting toothpaste everywhere. Whenever they get ready for bed, it starts with the youngest and goes up. If there is any mess in the bathroom, the child has to tell the previous child to clean it. If I see a mess, the oldest has to clean it. If it was not her mess, then she should have told the previous child. The kid with the bathroom as a chore has "Toothpaste Tuesday" where she has to clean the walls/doors/etc of toothpaste. She does a good job. :)
  14. But, what is witchcraft? All I know is from movies, and they probably are not portrayed correctly.
  15. You are probably safer eating a pre sliced meat where they slice one type of product at a time and package it. It would be sealed and introduced to high temps to kill bacteria, etc. When you go to a deli you are lucky if they cleaned the slicer after the last product. They are not supposed to cross contaminate the beef, poultry, ham and cheeses. Dh used to work for a deli company. They manufacturer was great about the product but he saw stores doing things that made his stomach roll. Slicing meat directly onto the plate where other meats were cut (not raw meat) and then putting it on the scale... At least when you buy a pre packed food you know what the expiry date is. Not so with the deli meats, where you don't get to see the bag. Not to derail the thread (sorry!) I would serve it cold, if it is pre cooked. Even though we ate ham cold and got sick, but that package said to cook it first and I didn't see that until after the fact :glare: That ham was sliced at a deli, too. I bet they didn't clean the slicer after that...
  16. Thanks for asking that question. It has made me see more things than I did. It also cleared up some things. I still have a question, though... What is a witch? (no offense to anyone, I'm just curious!
  17. I've found out that if they watch me do it once, they do it right later. Dd will take the rug off the bathroom floor and move the stuff off of the counter before cleaning it just beacause that is how I did it. If you really want a list, then watch them do it while you tell them what to do and write it down as you go. Then the list is personalized! I only make a list of stuff they have to do on certain days of the week. Daily is basic cleaning, but mon-sat they have extra cleaning for each day.
  18. I did not expect this to have two pages of replies before I could get to it! Because of that, I won't reply to each one :) Thank you for the ecouragement and the 'pushes' to do what I need. No, I am definetely NOT a scheduler. I wish I could be! I have a NICE schedule planned out for the day, but something always goes awry. :glare: I have a kid who will finish everything before lunch, just because she KNOWS that when she is done, she's done! Another who will finish it quickly sometimes, and another who would rather I forgot about the school thing. I have talked to DH about the chore thing.. I tell him that he has their nights. After supper, he can have them all he wants, and I will be in the school room planning out my next day. In the morning, they only have to eat and little one cleans after breakfast. But, somewhere between the "can we stay up?" and the "I don't want to eat breakfast..." just to say they are hungry later.... it goes wrong! I'm just afraid that someone will test my kids (paranoia) and they will flunk. I already know that my oldest is not a good test taker (like her dad). DH is on board with the homeschooling. I have said that I feel like a failure when my DD6 doesn't know the days of the week. He says that she knows the digestion process... she can find the days of the week on a calendar! He does not want them to go to a public school, at least not yet! He feels that we have better things to influence them with than going to school. So.. can I say that the small bites eat the HIPPO? Elephants are sacred in Thailand and DH and kids are part Thai. ;) Thank you everyone for the help... At least I can not beat myself up too hard.
  19. I am one that feels bad when I see what others are doing, since we are barely getting school-y stuff done like we should. DH is home during the day and it is difficult to get it done, when he wants them to have their rooms or chores done. Or he wants to go somewhere during the day. They are usually good about doing their self work by themselves, but I have a 4th grader who is not even on the 2nd half of Horizons 4. She worked it out to where she will be DONE with it by May/June, and will start on 5 in the summer. My first grader is not reading as well as I would like her to. She has problems with some simple three letter words, but can read 5-7 letter words that I doubt that I have taught her! Every time I say it is time to do something... she replies with "I hate ...." to whatever the subject is. My 2nd grader is doing okay, whenever I can get her to DO it! lol I have not had a vocabulary program, and I don't know where to start... Any help?? I also would like to start teaching my 4th grader Spanish, since I know quite a bit, and can speak with very little accent (so I'm told lol). She can take whatever language she wants in high school. I was leaning toward La Clase Divirtida, but I read in the Rainbow Resource book that it is very juvenile, and older children might not like it. I don't want to do Rosetta Stone, due to the price, and I'm not sure if it qualifies for highschool credit (I know she is too young, but I would rather not start a program that does me no good in the long run) I found out that they understand better when they have the audio cd of SOTW than if I read it. So, any read alouds will be done by audio cd... :tongue_smilie: Does that make me bad? I read really well, but I guess my voice just sounds like "wah wah wah" (best Charlie Brown adult voice) lol So, for the record, this is what we do: First grader: Horizons 1, FLL1, OPGTR, ETC, informal handwriting, Sonlight LA (for the copy work), Spelling (I'm not sure, it was free online). Second grader: Horizons 2, FLL2, WWE1, ETC, Reason for Handwriting (cursive), Sonlight readers, Sequential Spelling Fourth grader: Horizons 4, FLL3, WWE2, ETC, Reason for Handwriting (cursive), Sequential Spelling, Spectrum phonics 4th grade. Together they do Sonlight Science, SOTW 2, Bible. Sorry this is so long, but I wish I had someone that could be my "coach" with this. My sister who started me with homeschooling has children younger than me! If you made it this far... Thanks!!!
  20. I used to have a laser printer that we found beside a dumpster (still in package...) it worked GREAT until the kids broke it. We bought toner once and printed tons of stuff!!!! I estimated that it costs 5.7 cents per page for ink, compared to 3.5 cents per page for toner. Of course, this is by their standards... I print WAY more than 600 pages on my ink, so I bet I would print MORE than the 2,500 on the toner. It prints incredibly fast! You also don't need to worry as much if you have enough to print a workbook. But, OTOH, the printer is pretty pricey..
  21. DH says that I'm fun to be around. (IMO it's that I put up with him...j/k lol)
  22. I'm buying the good art supplies, and loading up on ink for my printer. I don't have the money to buy the printer. If I could squeeze another $75 I would buy an HP laser multifunction printer. If I bought two toners then I would get a gift card for $20 off (plus use a coupon for $25 off) then I would buy the printer that I want that is on sale for $299 - 50, then use a coupon for $50 off a printer, then use my $20 gift card... Just thought I would let you know about a good deal going on at hp. lol Other than that, there are no school things that I am buying other than curriculum.
