  1. Both resources are great! I just found that the teacher's guide has the maps in it. I've been going through the student guide with my daughter, since she is only on day 3! I am going to print up some maps so she can keep track of where she is at in the big picture. Also, my youngest are doing Core D+E and we can keep track of where we all are! Thank you so much!
  2. I'll check that out when I get on my computer. Ipad doesn't support flash :/ Looks good, so far! thank you
  3. I'm looking for maps that I can print up for my 8th grader. We are using Sonlight core 100 and I don't like the markable map. I found this http://www.eduplace.com/ss/maps/ But does anyone have any other ideas or resources? I want maps that she can wrote on, that are preferably blank, maybe physical features only. I would like to print them and put into her binder so she can chart where she is in the world, and label, etc. I know core 100 is US history, but I'm also interested in world maps. I can find a large map, but I'm guessing it would be easier if if was broken down for tracking purposes. Thank you! I know someone here has something like this. :)
  4. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-system/nbf-files/eca22062-9b3c-475e-97a2-18f8ebb835f5 This should help :)
  5. Subscribing so I can see updates when these are on sale. Next year the kiddos and I are doing school binders.
  6. I have up nonstick. We use calphalon, and it took a little getting used to, but I cook eggs in it, without sticking, so do the kids. I just use an oil spray.
  7. I love your idea of sticking to a curriculum. As soon as I find one that we actually all like and use I will stick to it. Like horizons math. I doubt I will ever stop using that. I don't even look at other math. I will make a run to my library and look for that series. Wel, they have it, so a library run is in order. They don't have the third grade in the early 90's, but that is my youngest and that grade is almost done. Thanks!
  8. I'm looking that up, now. I am watching a YouTube video. That, too, looks interesting!
  9. I would have given up SOTW if I chose Weaver. I'm not quite sure if it is the right fit. I do like picking up a subject and doing it, so units would not be good for me. I will look up the samples on Facebook, though! Thanks
  10. Anyone use G.U.M. Drops? It seems too easy and fun to work. :)
  11. I should be afraid to look it up, to bring something else into my view... lol I guess I will have to research TOG, also!
  12. Do they have suggestions on books for the History and Science? Also, did you like it? Why are you not using it anymore? I like the unit study approach, but I don't want to give up my current History.
  13. So, I'm in the market for new curriculum... I may switch up, or go to a completely new route. I have a 3rd, 4th, and 6th grader. Going into 4th, 5th and 7th at the beginning of the school year We use: Math - Horizons History - SOTW LA - FLL, WWE, Sequential Spelling, Spectrum Vocab, ARFH, for the youngest I am using OPGTR and AAS Science - Sonlight Reading - Sonlight Bible - I use online and Bible reading (And others for electives, etc) I was considering the AOP computer based, to give each girl their "own" curriculum, but the reviews made me think, and I really want to keep the Science, History and math, so that leaves the LA portion and Bible. So, not worth it? I thought about going back to pure Sonlight, but I really like SOTW, and my girls are too spread out to integrate them all into one core. My youngest is struggling with reading. We are currently using Sonlight Science 2. I am trying to get away from FLL and WWE, since DH does not like them. He is not into LA, and he does pick up teaching from time to time. I am also trying to streamline my homeschooling, since we are more laid back and need something we can jump into. I also looked into the Weaver, but I can't find any good resources about it. KEEP: Horizons Math (unless I am convinced, otherwise lol) SOTW (unless I switch to another program that is integrated) ARFH Sonlight Reading I was browsing through other threads and saw the Cathy Duffy recommendations. Someone mentioned that everyone here would be able to make better recommendations, so here you go ;) Thank you!!!
  14. If you get stuck on a page, just click on home or the Facebook logo on the top. It should take you backnto your fb homepage.
  15. I can spend an hour in a store looking for some clothes to buy. Dh will walk around for 5 minutes and pick out some bottoms and tops, hand them to me and I end up loving them. They are usually comfortable and different than the jeans/ tshirt that I usually wear. If money was no object, he would do a good job picking out my clothes. I am usually stuck on sales and clearance racks, while he doesn't care.
  16. Make sure you either check your state's benefits or buy a cheap pack of seeds with your groceries or by itself just to make sure. Even if it doesn't work at one store, try it elsewhere, in case they dont have it set. I only wish Menards or Lowes accepted ebt since their selection and prices are better than the grocery store. I would rather buy the plants for 1.69 and be sure they will work, than try to start seeds for 1.09 and not be sure they will take.
  17. Just a helpful tip to anyone receiving food stamp assistance. Most states allow the purchase of seeds or plants that provide food to be paid for by the food stamp or ebt benefits. I thought that since dh lost his job that I would not be able to have a garden this year. Until I read about it on a garden forum. Now I am happy to be able to supplement our food income with homegrown veggies.
  18. My mom is unable to qualify for ssd due to not having enough work credits. She was unable to keep a job through winter, and her disability limited what she could do. She worked when she could, and had to report income since she was receiving ssi. Even once when THEY miscalculated her benefits and caught it, she and to repay the overage. Now, she is in a wheelchair and still unable to work. She gets less than $700 a month to live on. OTOH, my fil has not kept a job for more than a year, has been on unemployment three times since I have known him. When his most recent unemployment benefits ran out (he was fired due to sexual harassment, but still got unemployment?) he started complaining about pain. He got knee replacements (paid by us, since he is a veteran) and is now trying to sue the only dr that would do the surgery. Others said that he didn't need it. Now, he is getting social security disability. He gets over $1200 a month from that, and his va disability is up to 30% and he gets money for that as well. He does not have to claim income as far as I know. He tried to claim his deceased ex wife's social security, but couldn't since they were not married long enough. She had more work credits than he does. Sorry so long... This benefits thing gets me going. I understand that there is a reason for it and that it is trying to be fair, but how is that one person who can't work gets so little while another who could, but doesn't want to try get so much? I also hope this clears up a little bit of the confusion about the different types of social security.
  19. Oh yeah, I just wanted to add that my great deal on dishes ended up being a winter theme. I didn't notice for almost a year after I bought them, that there is a pattern of snowflakes on them. It is not noticeable, and it doesn't even really look like a snowflake!
  20. Bathroom towels are whilte with a color stripe for each family member. Sheets are white, too. Dish close are white. They all need to be able to be bleached in hot water. Comforters are whatever color that was on sale. The girls' are purple, on clearance at wm. Mine is a duvet that is a tan color, on clearance at amazon. Hand towels in the bathroom are assorted colors, since we got them as a gift from our foreign exchange student. I love them, and since our bathroom doesn't have a color scheme, it fits nicely. Other than the Nebraska huskers shower curtain, that is the only thing that has colors. That, and the assorted stripe on the bath towels ;) Kitchen is where it starts to get picky! Dh got his kitchen when we bought is house. Stainless steel appliances with black. So, the towels in the kitchen are black/white stripe or black/white plaid. My stand mixer is white, so he bought a black cover for it lol! Dishes are white that we bought for $20 at sears. Glasses are from walmart, but they keep breaking, so we also have the free coca cola glasses from steak n shake! Since the kids decided to not take care of their dishes, we bought them a cheap set, in their own colors. They have one bowl, cup and plate. They have to wash it every time they eat. But, that is another topic altogether ;) The only other room that has matching stuff is dh's theater room. The walks and ceiling are painted black, there is a black rug in there and he covered the tv stand in black. There is a black sheet on the recliner, and if we can afford it, someday there will be black furniture covers on the rest of the furniture. Basically, I'm saying that dh is the only one who gives a care, and that we would do more with the matching if we could afford it!
  21. Core 1 and two cover world history in all. While sotw breaks it down into 4 books. We did sonlight 1 last year, and now are starting sotw 2 and we are having some repeats, but it is more comprehensive. I would, however add the sonlight booms in with sotw, but you would have to piece it together yourself.
  22. Yay!! Congratulations! Hoping for an arrival soon!
  23. I have the 32g and I only have some of my music on it. We have over 80 gig of music, so when tried to sync the first time, it yelled at me. Lol I have the same music on it that i had on my 8g iPod touch. I will add more soon, but I love having the space for my apps. I will add photos soon.
  24. I made dh teach our kids. I just buy them Velcro shoes because I am tired of telling them to tie their shoes every five minutes... :glare:
  25. Maybe Klepto the cat stole it! http://www.askavetquestion.com/news/2011/klepto-kitty-cat-caught-on-tape-stealing-from-neighbors/
