  1. Real life experience?? In January 2010 I went back to work. I hadn't worked since before kids. But we needed money and I had myself fooled I would actually bring some home after daycare expenses! Long story short I had a friend talk me into selling 3 of my Sonlight cores. Fast forward to this year? I only worked 6 months before realizing working wasn't bringing home any money! So I started homeschooling again. And now this year when I went to put in my order I was sooo upset! I had to rebuy a core that I would have already had for my next daughter in line if I hadn't sold it!! Conclusion?? Don't sell what you think you might use in the future. You already made the investment. And when the time comes and you are ready to use it again the funds may not be there to invest in it again. But that's just my really long two cents!
  2. We just saw those last week and my son asks for them all the time when I am skimming through looking for something for them. The kids will sit and watch the entire thing... enraptured! Win for us!
  3. Darn! I had originally planned to do school the WTM way. Completely. With me doing all the planning and scheduling. But with 4 kids, one a toddler and one with special needs it had gotten to be too stressful for me. At that point I had already ordered SOTW. I decided to go with SL because I have used it in the past and no matter how much I look at other stuff I always, always go back to Sonlight. It is all ready and laid out for me and there are no library trips... which are very hard for me to do. I will just have to use what I can I guess! I do have the SOTW book 3 but not the activity guide. I could just do what we can out of the AG and then save the AG's for Core 6 and 7.
  4. I bought SL Core 2 after I had bought the SOTW books and Activity guide. I want to be able to use both. I have read in numerous places that SOTW 1 goes well with Core 1 but can't find if that is true for the rest of cores. Someone help me out here?? What would be the best way to combine to two and make a schedule for the SOTW readings?
  5. I just got my iPad. And I love it!!!!! I am a devoted iPhone owner though. So it was a natural upgrade I think. But I really only wanted a device to do email, check forums, surf the net, apps and Netflix. I was going to use it for books but I realized after I got it and downloaded the app that I can get cheaper ebooks on my nook. I think if you get it expecting it to work as a laptop then you are getting it for the wrong reason. It is more of a mobile networking/Internet device. It's a fun toy and I love it. I'll update after I have had it for a little while.
  6. Any accessories that are a must? And do I HAVE to have 3G? I have an iPhone to use when I am out and about.
  7. Houses and land prices here are outrageous. We live in upstate NY outside of Albany. Buying a house or land in NY is highly unlikely for dh and I just due to the taxes and pricing of the houses. Groceries are also very expensive as is the gas. Dh and I would *love* to get OUT of NY! Dh's family is from Indiana and we lived there when we first got married. It was much cheaper. If it wasn't for the fact that my family lives here in NY we would move back to Indiana, get out of NY and never look back! Someone else who lives even further out of the capital district may have something different to report! I also don't know how NY compares with other New England states. Just midwest states.
  8. Both of the conventions near me are 4 hours away. I would like to go to some of the lectures. I am just trying to decide if I should save the cost of gas and hotel and just get some extra books and games next year. I was all set to go to the one in Philly but It'll be about a 500 dollar trip. The other thing that bugs me is that both of the conventions I could travel too are at the end of June! I like to have my things earlier than that. But I can deal with that if I have to.
  9. This wasn't my intention. And besides I already know what I am going to be using next year. So I am either going to buy it as cheap as I can get it. Or go to the convention, pay a little extra and use the vendors. My only intent was to ask if there were good deals at the convention. If I "picked" someone's brain I would most likely buy from them. No need to start a debate.
  10. Dh and I were planning on going to the homeschool convention if PA. But now I am wondering... Are the vendors at the convention really going to offer me prices that are cheaper than I can find on Amazon? I have never gone to a convention and while I would love to go to one, I am wondering if I should just order of off Amazon and call it good. Then I wouldn't be paying for the convention, gas and a hotel. Is it worth it? Pricewise? I am not asking about the worth of going to glean information or be with dh for a weekend! I want bottomline money details! :bigear:
  11. I had one between Dd1 and Ds. And then for the subsequent 3 pregnancies I couldn't get over the horrible fear of losing them until after 12 weeks. But the fear never really went away. Once you have a miscarriage it is impossible to not fear losing the baby while you are pregnant.
  12. It is very political. I had to make myself finish it. Read it a little over a year ago. But then I sped through the sequel (it was in the same bound book). It was much better. I have a bunch of other's from the same author I bought and really should try to read. One was about the cowardly lion, one is a retell on snow white I think? And Sleeping Beauty? Right now I am finally reading The Book Thief.
  13. :iagree: I have two ankle length jean skirts from here that I wear all the time.
  14. I finished Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier last week. And so far this week I have already finished The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein and Her Mother's Hope by Francine Rivers. Finished this year: 1. My Name is Mary Sutter 2. The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet 3. The Art of Eating In 4. Shanghai Girls 5. The Hunger Games 6. Catching Fire 7. Mockingjay 8. Unwind 9. The Help 10. Adam 11. Remarkable Creatures 12. The Art of Racing in the Rain 13. Her Mother's Hope
