  1. I haven't read all of the replies. I'm sorry you are going through this. I have btdt long enough to then have to deal with the fallout when that impulsive marriage ended. I would encourage you to be honest with your dad. He probably won't listen, but this whole thing has the potential for disaster. Love him well by speaking truth.
  2. He is very young. You don't have to say anything about "repeating" or "staying back." You can tell him that he is going to keep doing first grade, or that you are excited to have him try first grade at a different school.
  3. I am probably in a similar situation. I don't have a burning desire to teach my kids. Homeschooling and being around them all day requires a lot from me. It's exhausting. Just a few random thoughts: We homeschool because we feel like it is the direction the Lord has led us in, and it is a conviction that He has not removed from us. To me, it is an act of faith and obedience - trusting that He is working out His plans in ways I can't see. Every once in a rare while I catch a glimpse, and for a moment it all makes sense. I do try to focus on the things I am able to enjoy because I homeschool. We have a pretty relaxed schedule on most days and I love not having to rush out the door. I also love literature and enjoy reading books with the kids. We are part of a small co-op and I really enjoy talking with the other moms there. And there are many other things. I have also realized how necessary it is for me to get out and exercise during the week, and to have other things just for myself. It helps fight the crazy. This morning I woke up feeling like I was absolutely wasting my life in this house with my kids (horrible, I know). But then I saw my neighbor outside and she told me how wonderful my children are and what exceptional people we are (things I have a hard time seeing), and I was encouraged for another day.
  4. I wouldn't give him a choice. Either he could go clothes shopping with me, or I would be buying pants on my own that he would have to wear. And I would remove the clothes that don't fit. I hate shopping too, but some things have to be done.
  5. We have tried elderberry syrup before without any positive results, but I will definitely be getting new toothbrushes. Thanks!
  6. I'm so sorry you are going through it too!☹ï¸
  7. Yes, urgent care knows us by name at this point. And I had to try one of those CVS clinics for the first time too, and it really wasn't bad.
  8. We have had over a month of endless illness. We all keep swapping bronchitis, ear infections, sore throats, and pink eye. Add to all of this the frustration of a pediatrician who is never able to get my kids in, and it has been maddening. I feel like I have tried all of the things. Any tips? Do other families experience seasons of sickness like this? It has been so horrible. 👎
  9. Two of my must haves: a rock 'n play, & Velcro swaddle blankets
  10. We always keep paper plates in the house. The kids mostly use them.
  11. I have been homeschooling since my son was in K. Next year he will be in high school. I am very intimidated.😱 We will also be moving again at some point in the next few years and we will have state laws to deal with (right now we are in care-free TX). I would appreciate any resources you could point me to. Thanks!
  12. Yes. He was sick at the time and they thought he aspirated the lego so they ambulanced us off to the big city. He was kept for several miserable nights during which he was put on and then taken off of antibiotics. They finally sucked out his lungs and found a lot of mucus but no lego. Then they agreed that he did in fact need antibiotics. It was a nightmare.
  13. We had wart issues and I tried a bunch of otc stuff and finally took my son to a Dr. who wanted him to take huge doses of heartburn medicine. 🙄 But I found something simple that works - iodine! Put it on the wart 2-3 times per day. They will shrink and eventually disappear. And it is pain free!
  14. Yes, it was good! I think we watched it all in 3 days.😂
  15. http://m.unionoysterhouse.com/ My favorite restaurant in Boston.
  16. I have a kid who has had a hard time learning many things. Shoe tying and bike riding were HUGE challenges. Reading was a beast we just worked at every day until it really clicked in 2nd grade. Math is still SO hard. Things I do: - give him a lot of time. I'm schooling 3 but he needs the most from me. - face one physical challenge at a time - when it was bike riding that was our focus. *- focus on character. We believe that the Lord uniquely made him and has a purpose for all of these struggles. He will grow to be a man who knows how to persevere through difficulty. That will be a tremendous strength. - find something he enjoys and let him run with it. He started playing the guitar at age 9 and is still loving it 5 years later. He has weekly lessons, and I think it is really beneficial for him to have something he knows he is good at. - continue homeschooling. I feel like quitting at least once a week, but we are convinced that this kid would just get lost in the system.
  17. We have gone years without a dishwasher. Honestly, a dishwasher may be higher on my list than a second bathroom. I love, love, love having a dishwasher.
  18. It's hard but not impossible. We did it for several years as a family of 5. The only time it was a major issue was when multiple people had a stomach bug. 🤢 But the kids were also smaller. I have been thankful to have more than one bathroom now that they are all older and seem to want to camp out in there. If you are buying a house, could you install a half bath somewhere?
  19. I want to grow taller too! I didn't know that was even possible. Periods closer together Super horrible PMS Occasional night sweats Wrinkles and white hairs popping up all over the place 😱
  20. I would invite the mom and daughter over for a play date. Mom's sit and chat while kids play. I have done this often and found that I usually gain a new friend too.
  21. We ordered one of these last spring and we love it! https://www.novosbed.com/?gclid=Cj0KEQiAw_DEBRChnYiQ_562gsEBEiQA4LcssijuBgSyB32Yw705cRYlrWy5hzGH2RRada0mWEE26xoaAl3e8P8HAQ
