  1. At this point he is thinking that it couldn't possibly be from kidney stones because there are no more present and I shouldn't still be having pain from a stone passed a week ago. Gall bladder problems is one possibility and a pretty likely one at that. My brother just had his removed four months ago and I guess those problems can be heriditary. They are going to do this HIDA test or scan or what-ever tomorrow. The other possibility is GERD but I have a really hard time believing that could be the problem as I don't have any chest or stomach pain. The pain is definitely centered over my right kidney and I have had blood in my urine the last two times they checked and I don't see how that could be related. Hopefully I will get some answers tomorrow. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for asking.
  2. I did find it easier to vacuum than to sweep and dust mop but spills and sticky messes are easier to clean up now. It seems like you can never really get a carpet clean especially traffic areas or where you have had a spill. I have four long hair cats and I don't sweep as often as I should so I have giant dust bunnies lurking under couches and such but that's just not a major concern in my life right now. I have been thinking about getting a Roomba to deal with that but it's pretty far done my list. Overall, I much prefer the hardwood floors.
  3. I have four different chores that I would like to have done twice a week. These are things that the maids used to do that I would gladly pay my children to do. All of my children would love to do these chores for pay. I have four children at home so ideally each child should be able to do two chores a week for pay. I want to make it so that the children could pick which chore that they would like to do and when they would like to do it but I don't want the same chore done on back to back days and I don't want the older children to hog all the chores and not give the younger children a chance to do any. So I would like to make a chore list where the children can pick a chore and mark when they have done it. I would also like to make it where the older children can do whatever chores are left at the end of the week that have not already been done. I am just having a hard time with the logistics or making a chart like this. Has anyone done anything like this? If so how did you work it out? Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks. :willy_nilly:
  4. I can only think of a very few instances where breast milk would be questionable and even then it's not difinitive. Your baby is probably the healthiest one in the family. Don't you worry about that.:thumbup1:
  5. I haven't used that name in 27 years but it was on the info for my mother's death certificate/funeral. It kind of freaked me out.
  6. Whenever they are in the same room they aggravate the heck out of each other. Now I bring them into my office one at a time to do their school work. It takes longer this way but it is much more peaceful and productive.
  7. manage having a houseful of children and making a quite work space at the same time? My dh is consulting now and occasionally has to work from home. He has his own office with french doors but it is on the first floor. This is the main living space and where the children spend most of the day. I only work with one of the children at a time so there is always a loose child some where and I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to keep them all quite during the day so that he can work. The eight year old especially seems to be having a hard time with the concept that she can't ask him questions or show him her work during the work day. Unless I plant myself outside his door, she slips off to visit with him when I am working with the other children. I don't have this problem when I am writing but then they spend way more time with me and I think that they miss him more now than he travels. Any ideas?
  8. I have had a lot of challenges recently but luckily he's not one of them. He has been my rock and I really don't know that I would have made it through the past few months without him. Our marriage is great and I was in no way trying to imply otherwise. My question was purely hypothetical and based on a previous thread. I did not get to read all of the responses so I don't know if the thread took a horribly wrong turn but I am sorry if it did. I really didn't consider the possibility that it had that potential. My bad.
  9. In an earlier thread one of the words I used in several of my posts became highlighted in red. I did not do this myself so I am curious as to how it happened. It only happened after I did a search on that term and posted the last time so I am wondering if perhaps it is related to the search or maybe the number of times your post a certain word in a thread. Anyone know?
  10. I guess that I don't chekc mine very often. I currently have more points than the last time I checked but there are no comments listed under most recent rep points. I only have 128 posts and I haven't repped enough people to accumulate the additional points that I have earned. So where did the extra points come from and why can't I see the last five comments that I have received? I read all of the post related to this subject and can't seem to find the answer.
  11. I actually thought that people would be quite interested in this as we have discussed it many times previously. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15247 Oh well.
  12. Are family has serious circadium rythym issues. No one is asleep before 1:00 am and we all sleep until at least 9:00 or 10:00. Then we get up eat, dress, and other morning things. The yougers usually start at around 1:00 and the olders seems to do school work off and on the rest of the day. Works for us. The only problem is when we have afternoon appointments. Then we have to juggle some but we manage.
  13. My 5th grader will be going to middle school next year for just such reasons. Not to mention that this has been a horrible year for our family and I just haven't been able to allocate the resources to teaching her that I should. So all around I think that she will get a much better education at school next year. The youngest will still stay home and hopefully I will be able to dedicate more time and resources to her. The oldest two are for the most part self-directed and need very little day to day help. They also have no desire to go to school so we are making it work with them. I would send them as well if they wanted to go. And I am a pretty die-hard home schooler. I have been doing this for 13 years now with all of my children. But I have reached a point where I know that I am not providing the 5th grader with as good an education as she could be geting else where so off she goes. It is a tought spot to be in.
  14. Combined my dh and I borrowed about $35,000 but we borrowed when the interest rate was 9% and during that very small window when you couldn't refinance to a lower rate. We also deferred out loans for quite a while because we couldn't afford the payments early on. We currently owe $80,000and with a 30 year payment schedual we pay $600 a month on our student loans. That's a huge chunk of change. More than a car payment. I seriously doubt that we will ever have a second car because of it. Our mortgage will be paid off before our student loans. I DON"T recommend this. Student loans are basically forever even if you change your mind and decide to do something else. Or as in my case put your degree to no use what-so-ever. Encourage him to find a cheaper school.
  15. It was his version of Jesus Christ. I frequently ask if I am speaking English because no one seems to hear what I say around here. And of course, the mother's favorite, "Who ever said life was fair?" I had to keep repeating this one to myself when I was in the emergency room in extreme pain.
  16. Ours is always much higher quality, this year Lindt and Russel Stovers. Sometimes the kids are stealing from my stash.
  17. So happy for you. Glad to hear both you and the baby are healthy and fine. I am sure he will be home in no time. Be sure to get lots of rest now.
  18. Unpleasant but I was so done being pregnant. The rest of mine were late as well. The last few weeks are the worst part. Hope you go into labor soon.
  19. Out of your ever-loving mind? What in the world possessed you to agree to this? I hope that you have a Mike's available or your favorite drink of choice. Good luck and hope that you get some sleep tonight.
  20. But I do like the idea of some time off. :001_smile:
  21. A C/T scan of both kidney and gall bladder, an ultra-sound of gall bladder and ducts, and an x-ray of lungs. They also did urinalysis and blood work. I am assuming that they would have checked liver enzymes but I don't know about the pancrease. The dr. was very thorough. The night before I went to the ER I had significant sweating, chills that caused violent shaking, nausea and extreme pain. The symptoms got somewhat better the next day and then got much worse as the night went on. By the time I got to the ER, I was incapacitated by the pain and my dh described my behavior as almost ferral. I did not have any fever. Blood pressure was 180/110. The pain was much worse when laying down than when sitting or standing. I have lost 20 lbs. in the past two months without trying but I have attributed that to stress. The pain right now is almost as bad as it was the first night but no other symptoms other than digestive upset and nausea. I don't know what an aortic aneurysm is so I can't really say if I am at increased risk for it. My dm just died of a heart attack at age 60 but I am assuming that a heart attack doesn't last 5 days. Like I said the dr. was very thorough and did a pretty extensive work-up. It seems like he wouldn't have missed anything major. I was just wondering there could be something else wrong with the gall bladder other than stones. Thanks for all the input. It helps some.
