  1. My pregnanat dd drove from Atlanta to TN to go to the funeral in TX with us. She was sick every day, lost ten pounds and got very dehydrated. The baby's heart beat is fine though and he/she is moving around plenty so all is good there. 14 yr. old dd got an ear infection and we had to go to the emergency room in the middle of the night in route and then find an all night pharmacy which wasn't easy in a strange town. She spent the next week throwing up as well and also got dehydrated. Bi-polar dd is not handling the stress well and is barely holding things together. All of the girls were exposed to the same cousins that gave them lice last year. As far as I can tell they didn't get them this time (Thank God). I had a very upset stomach and was nausous (sp?) for the first ten days and lost ten pounds (which I couldn't afford to lose) and got dehydrated as well. Also hurt my back pretty badly moving furniture and finally got an infection and had to have my dr. call a prescription in to a pharmacy here. All of my regular prescriptions ran out and I had to have the refills mailed here. Dh had to leave immediately after the funeral to fly to his new job to do a critical upgrade so I have been doing all of this without him. I have to drive home alone and I do not travel well. Emotionally we all handled the passing fairly well even though it was a complete shock. Mom was in poor health, getting kind of senile and not able to care for herself very well. She passed on the 11th and my one brother wasn't able to make it here until the 17th so the funeral was a little later than we would have liked and mom was not looking as good as she could have. Mom was a hoarder so she had three 24 ft. trucks full of stuff that had to be moved. She had six desks, five dining room sets, at least that many bedroom sets and so much more. She has enough clothes to clothe a small country and probably every toy we have ever owned. Also nothing was sorted. She would have a jar full of shells with a diamond ring buried in it. The jewelry box wasn't holding any of the family jewels. Everything has to be gone through with a fine tooth comb and of course nothing has ever been cleaned. We all have major allergy attacks just walking in the house. She also has eight cats that we can't find homes for. No one lives here so none of us can take them. And all of the shelters say that they will put them to sleep if they can find homes for them so they are still at her house. We have to move them soon though because the city has bought her house (which she was renting) and they are moving it to a heritage village. The movers have already showed up to access moving it. I am doing all of the cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry and shopping and I have the easiest job. Of course every day I clean out the kitchen and other spaces so that I can work and every night they fill the spaces up with more stuff from the old house. There are so many people here that there is not enough spaces for everyone to sleep. I can even walk in my room and there are kids sleeping on pallets in the closets. And this will be finacially devestating. I had no idea how much it costs to have a funeral. We didn't have life insurance for her. The funeral and cremation was $7000 and apparently this was cheaper than burying her in a cemetary plot. We spent $1000 on hotel rooms the first week we were here because there was no where else to go. $500 for a rental car because we need two cars to all get here and then about $1000 to feed everyone because there are so many people and it was awhile before we had dishes and a functioning kitchen. Plus I had to feed everyone after the funeral. Between this an the month with out income because of my dh changing jobs we wiped out our entire 401K and will have some debt. And I am thankful that we will be able to make it through the next two months. I have to leave day after tomorrow because a psychiatric appointment on Friday and I really think that I need it! I have company coming to my house on the third. Luckily my dh is back home and is cleaning for me so basically all I will have to do is shop for groceries when I get home. After this is all over I plan to sleep for a week and then we will have to hit the books and make up for all of the lost school time. I am really considering letting the two youngest go to school next year. The child who was here all along is going to stay here for two more weeks to help my brother and because I really don't want him to stay here alone. Plus the lady that she was staying with just got out of the hospital from major surgery so she is needing help as well. I am really proud of the older two. They are really showing their maturity. The have been busting but, handling the stress and holding themselves together very well. I don't know what we would have done without them. Well I guess that's all for now. I need to get back to work. Continued well wishes and prayers please and thank you guys so much for all of the support before. It really meant alot to me (brought tears to my eyes).
  2. Good luck with the kids schooling. At least one of mine will be going next year.
  3. This has been a horrible year. First the problems with my son, then buying the house and moving, the row with the crazy landlord, strep throat, mono, the problems with teen dd, dh changing jobs and traveling around the us, the flu and now this. And I am sure that I am probably forgetting a few things. I have heard that God only gives you what he knows you can handle but I really think that I have reached my limit. And I am so completely overwhelmed for my brother. He is the baby of the family but I know that he feels that he has to be the strong one to carry the family through. I don't even know if he has cried yet. He has taken care of my mom for the last nine years and frequently provided for my brothers as well. He just closed on his 1st house on the 31st of Jan. He hasn't even moved yet. He barely just finished painting and now he doesn't even want to live there. He is on the road most of the time and he really has no need for a house. He just wanted to make a nice home for my mom. And I know he is going to feel like if he had just did something different then maybe this wouldn't have happened. I think that maybe she didn't really want to move away from her home. Her friend talked to her on the phone just 15 minutes before she died. The friend was walking down to her house. My mom had gotten up to visit with the friend but she died by the time the friend got there. She probably didn't even know that there was anything wrong. My dd is hysterical. She was very close to my mom. My dd was born at home and my mom was there. She was like a second mother to my dd. But they were arguing yesterday about the best way to move my mom and my dd didn't even see her today. They never had a chance to make up and I don't think that my dd will get over this. I hope that you guys don't mind being my sounding board tonight. Dh is already sleeping because he will have to start traveling very early in the morning. My brother can't get home until about Sat. at the earliest. I really do think that he is in shock and not processing this. I am worried for him. :(
  4. My brother who lives with her is an over-the-road driver and he is currently in Oregon. My dh is in Tampa on business and my dd is in Dallas with said grandmother. Luckily, there is very close family friend there that my dd is staying with. I have been on the phone for hours now trying to figure everything out and so far I haven't made much progress. My dh will be home in the morning and we are trying to figure out how to get my brother home as soon as possibble. I guess my family will leave out sometime tomorrow to drive there and I have no idea after that. Everyone still has the flu and we are all very tired. Prayers and well wishes please. Thanks.
  5. One started her cycle last Sunday, one this Sunday and I start next Sunday. I can only assume that the up and coming one will take the off week so that it can be all fun, all of the time around here. Woo-hoo!
  6. If so what is the mechanism for this working? Also does it matter what kind of liquer and how much should you use? I remember my mom doing this when I was a child but I can't remember if it worked. Hmmm. I wonder why not?
  7. I took Tamiflu because I got in to the doctor before I fell hard. As far as I can tell though, it made very little difference. I think that I was just as sick as the kids and probably for just as long. The only difference is that I didn't get that horrible cough that everyone else had. We lost about four days sleeping all day and we all still have a low grade fever and we are exhausted. The kids still have the cough at night. I am trying to rally the troops to do school work today but they are mutinying and I just don't have the energy to fight them.
  8. I read the article and watched the video and it only made brief mention of the feedback changes. This is what would concern me the most. Anyone know anything more about this?
  9. My only reqirements were that it had three outside pockets. One for my cell phone, one for my keys and one for my coin purse. Checkbook and credit card holder goes inside. I love it but it is very heavy. If I could fiond something like this that was lighter I would go with it. I would also consider a red or burgandy purse but I don't see that happening anytime in the near future as I buy a new ourse about once every ten years wether I need it or not.
  10. he older two will be here until graduations, The 5th grader will go to 6th gradr next year and it is possible that the 3rd grader will go to 4th. This would give me much more time for learning and writing myself.
  11. So my family would get the max of $2400. $1200 for my dh and myself and $1200 for the four children still living at home. Ours will go towards extra principle on our house.
  12. I didn't have an u/s with the first two. I had two each with the next two and they couldn't tell the sex any of those times. I had two with the fifth child. One said boy (12 weeks) and the other (5 months) said girl. I felt pretty strongly that they were correct the first time and just missing it the second time so I did not have a girl name picked out. Of course, it was a girl. I had one u/s with the last one and it was correct. I am patiently waiting for the 20week u/s for my first grandchild to find out what it will be.
  13. Doc prescribed it but we are getting awfully close to the 48 hour limit. Would it be worth it to have the prescription filled? And idea how much it costs?
  14. Hubby and three kids all running a fever of 102-104. Aches, pains, chills, coughing, congestion, sore throat. I am the only one still standing and not whimpering but I am fading fast. I haven't slept in three days because at least once every half hour someone is asking, for medicine, or halls or water or to be covered up or help going to the bathroom. Since there is four of them this is pretty much non stop. Dh went for culture today to make sure we are dealing with the flu not strep throat. I am almost praying for strep because I know that they can cure it. :(
  15. It was so bad that oxycodone and demerol was not even touching the pain. My blood pressure was like 165/135. They put me on the pill and I haven't had a problem since. I did break from the pill for a while but after two months the pain started coming back so back on the pill I went. I plan to stay on the pill as long as they will let me.

  17. I almost always vote libertarian but in this particular race I will probably cross over. There is one person I would like to see win so if they get the ticket I will vote for them and there is one person I DO NOT want to see win so I will vote against them if I have to.
  18. I never buy pencils and we have a ton of them. I don't know where they come from. On the other hand, we lose pens. I have my own designated pens which the children are forbidden from touching.
  19. It explains things very well and allows the child to master an entire concept and move on very quickly. I use this program and I absolutely love it. It is a very versatile program and can be used in many different ways. If you buy the whole package you will get the teachers manual, games, manipulative and the workbooks. The teacher's guide is more than just an answer key. It tells you different ways to implement the program, different sequences and other helpful information. You can buy the workbooks and TE separately. This allows you to try one workbook and see if it works for you. Also it makes for an easier cash flow if you buy one book a year instead of all at once. We only use the workbooks and they are the best I have ever seen. The explanation of what you are supposed to do is on each work page. The instructions are so easy and thorough that a child who is reading at a second to third grade level can do them completely on their own. We have been using this program for a few years with my daughter and I can only remember one time when she needed additional help from me. The back of each page is blank so when you open to a two pages spread there is only writing on the page that the dc is supposed to be working on. The type is fairly large and there is lots of white space. The largest problem with this program is the pacing. The addition book has 68 pages. Once you finish the book you would pretty much know everything you need to know about adding. So what are you going to do for the rest of the year? In my opinion there are two options. If you child is very bright then just start with the next book and do this through the entire series. At this rate it would take about four years to finish the whole series. This could be followed by a strong review program in fifth grade and pre-algebra in sixth. If your dc is not up to that rigorous of a pacing then you could finish one book a year then spend the rest of each year doing drill work like Calculadders. I'll add to the chorus on Singapore, MUS and Right Start. All great programs that would fufill your criteria.
  20. He is home for a week. I had a big long list of things for him to do while he was home and he up and gets the flu. Now what will happen is: he won't get anything on the list done and I will spend the whole week tending to him. He will get well just in time to go back on the road by which time I will be sick and then he won't be here to take care of me. Every single time that I have been majorly ill he has been on the road and my kids are just capable enough to take care of themselves but not to take care of me. Hopefully there will not be any bodily fluids involved.
  21. I have reviewed several phonics/reading programs for my book and this is my favorite. It is very thorough. I have written a three page review of it which I have tried to attach. I am new at this so we will see if it comes through.
