  1. My oldest is 10 and a very good reader and writer. Her spelling is hit or miss and doesn't seem to follow any pattern. Spelling Power didn't work for us because she could spell most of the words but then the ones she didn't know didn't really have any instruction as to why the word was spelled in that manner (or what it was about the word that she didn't get.) I like AAS because of the clear instructions/rules. I have no idea which level to use. Working though several levels quickly is not going to work because it is expensive and would be boring. Suggestions?
  2. Whew, that's what I thought. So how do you reconcile giving help with spelling and only reading the dictation sentences 2-3 times?
  3. How important is spelling during the dictation exercises in WWE? Is it more important to just get the idea and basic spelling or are they supposed to be able to spell everything, too?
  4. :iagree: You may also want to check into allergy testing so that you will know exactly what's bothering her.
  5. Loved, loved, loved the book -- really changed how I look at diet. It was one of the first books I read when I started questioning the things I've been taught. It's still my go-to book -- I consider it more of a nutrition book with some recipes thrown in.
  6. Right now I seem to be spending all my time studying/learning about hormones and nutrition.
  7. I get them when I've eaten too much sugar (even in the form of fruit.) So, if you remove sugar from your diet it will prevent them.
  8. We watch the DVD the first day and then only watch it again if we need clarification.
  9. When I joined a gym for the first time my new membership came with several personal training sessions. It was a lifesaver -- he did a fantastic job of showing me how to do things correctly. (Although others that worked with him seemed a lot like the girl you described.) Could you meet with another person? Get your money back and join another gym with training sessions included? If all else fails -- I absolutely love classes.
  10. I think some doctors think it's their duty to check up on their patients -- just in case CPS needs to be called. I had a new doctor quiz my kids one time on how they were disciplined when they did something wrong :glare: Maybe he just wanted to check on you :tongue_smilie:
  11. If I exercise in the morning and evening it helps to control my eating (if I eat too close to exercise then it makes me sick while exercising and when I get home from exercising I don't want to eat 'cause I feel so good after just exercising and I'm able to eat less -- make sense?) Also, I've almost completely eliminated flour and sugar from my diet. I've noticed that if I eat a little that it makes my cravings go crazy and it's hard to stop -- so I just don't eat it at all. It's made a huge difference in my weight AND my moods.
  12. All About Spelling. I did not use it with my daughter last year and have decided that she really could have used it to help supplement her phonics. Not going to make the same mistake with my son.
  13. :iagree: I would also add that I've had a massive reduction in allergies once I removed wheat from my diet. If I had known I would have done it years ago!
  14. Dh lost his job? I missed that somewhere!
  15. Yes, but only if it was really like Mayberry. I grew up in a small town that was terrible -- just because it's small doesn't mean the people are nice.
  16. I bought their storage case -- it's perfect.
