  1. Rod & Staff has extremely inexpensive music theory workbooks that aren't fluffy. :)
  2. Thank you so much to everyone who so graciously replied. He says his head feels considerably better but I hugged him tight today and he cried because he said it hurt his sternum. I will give it a couple of days and if I don't see improvement we'll have to go for an x-ray... Thanks again!!
  3. My 8 year old fell off a step in a Chick fil A playground and slammed the back of his head off a shoe bench. One huge goose egg formed on the back of his head immediately and a smaller one below, close to his neck. He had the wind knocked out of him but didn't lose consciousness. He didn't show any signs of concussion, but I took him to an urgent care facility to be safe anyhow. He told the PA there that his sternum hurt and he gasped a couple of times in the car on the way over saying he had sharp pain in the same location. Odd since he fell on the back of his head then his back slammed down. The PA palpated the area and looked at his head. He seemed fine and was in good spirits after the initial crying when he fell and she sent us home. It's nearing 24 hours and he's not stopped mentioning the pain in his chest all day. I felt it and I don't feel anything out of the ordinary but he winces and pulls away when I touch the part he says hurts. He also says breathing in the cold air causes sharp pain as does leaning over. I cannot figure out what on earth is wrong with him? Thoughts?
  4. My grandma sent me home with a bag of flour and it ended up infesting our pantry. I almost lost it. You'll need to clear EVERYTHING out unless it's sealed in plastic and has no bugs then wipe down with hot water and vinegar (or whatever cleaner you prefer). The most important thing is to leave not one single spec, crumb or any reside behind. If you can leave it empty for a few days to get any that are "on their way" in, do so. Restock with things carefully sealed. (I now keep flour, pasta, grains, etc... in airtight containers or bags.) Good luck. I wanted to cry when it happened at our old house!
  5. My MIL, who is a very nice lady, "comforted" me after a miscarriage by saying, "When I was young, we didn't go out and buy a pregnancy test at the drop of a hat. You probably wouldn't have even known you miscarried if you hadn't taken a test so early." I was 8 weeks, but whatever.
  6. Are you wrapping it around the finger and fastening it to itself on the other side, or just cutting out small piece and sticking it on? I'd say have him put it on at bed time and wear it overnight and see if it stays on better then.
  7. After years of struggling, DH and I finally bought a house 6 months ago. It's a major fixer upper and has many quirks but it's in a beautiful neighborhood. The house is moved into and in order except for the garage where we stored seasonal things and some furniture that we wanted to sell at some point after we painted it or whatever. The change of weather is here, so I go out there to "shop" in my DD's outgrown clothing bins for my younger DD. I was greated with a coating of green mold over a large area. The clothes were in sealed bins, so they seem ok, but the wood furniture is just covered and I just threw away two car seats and a stroller that were completely covered. I'm trying not to burst into tears but I don't know what to do. There were some boots and shoes in original boxes and when I lifted the lids, they were moldy too. The bizarre part is that I can't find any standing water (not even the tiniest puddle) or dampness coming from anywhere, so I have no idea where to even start. I imagine that indicates we have a significant problem somewhere in the foundation or walls? (We have no basement and the house is on slab, so I'm stumped.) I haven't called DH but we've had just the worst luck with homes over the years and I just can't take anymore.
  8. She has clearly embarrassed your DD and put you both in bad position. What she's doing is totally inappropriate. I would respond by embarrassing her with kindness and openness in return. Do as a pp said and say to her "DD says you're super curious about how we do school here. I wanted to see if you would like to come over for school on x date and join us for lunch?" (Be sincere and offer a real time. Don't do anything out of the ordinary or your dd will call you on it in front of her, lol!) That's my 2 cents! :)
  9. Just finished watching the whole thing. I had to pause it for an hour so it could buffer, but I cried like a fool the whole time... so good.
  10. He's not quite there yet because he doesn't enjoy the physical aspect of writing. He's a typical boy who gets tired of manually writing. I'm planning to have him take typing within the next couple of years. I think if he could type, he'd write more, but I don't want to stunt his handwriting so I'm committed to sticking out this year and working on improving his handwriting. I let him narrate to me yesterday and my hand cramped trying to keep up with all of his ideas. He narrated 3 pages filled with descriptive details in just a few minutes. That said, he still needs plenty of work on Grammar, so that's what I'm really looking for. I do love the idea of publishing a book! I think that would be super motivating for him! I confess I was expecting a lot of recommendations but maybe I got blacklisted for some accidentally obnoxious post on some thread or another, lol!
  11. DS (3rd grade) did Sing, Spell, Read & Write in K-2nd grades. Admittedly, it wasn't challenging for him. Because SSR&W is hardly intensive in terms of mechanics, punctuation, capitalization, etc, I assumed he would need a decent amount of review and basics so we ordered A Beka Language 3. He's powering through it taking on about one new concept a day without any hesitation. He gets plenty of practice notebooking for science and history. At the rate we're going, he'll have finished the A Beka Language 3 curric. by Christmas, if not Thanksgiving. I guess we could do A Beka Language 4, but I was thinking that it might be wiser to switch to something more intensive (R&S 3?) so he's really getting a super solid foundation instead of just running through exercises from one limited perspective. Don't get me wrong, I like A Beka Language and their high school Grammar as well, but DS reads for hours a day and often says he thinks he'll be a writer when he grows up. I think it's a little early to call, but I'd like to give him the tools to succeed if he does go that direction in life. I'm open to other suggestions than A Beka and R&S for sure and I'd love to hear opinions on these or other options.
  12. Me too. Wednesday: Puma sweatsuit, solid pants, striped hoodie Thursday: Funky little dress and a cardigan Today: Jeans and peasant top with sandals I gained weight so it's severely limiting my selection. Otherwise, I'd wear more variety. That said, when I'm thinner, I gravitate towards skinny jeans and a tunic style top with a long necklace.
  13. I just bought DD 10.00 (ridiculous!) ballet tights and now that today is her first class, they are NOWHERE to be found. I've torn apart the entire house and car including closets and bags with no luck. I cannot express how aggravating losing things is for me. Number one pet peeve ever.
  14. Yes and no... You can laminate many small things in one pouch (leave a half inch or so around each item) and then cut them out individually. However if you laminate say, an 8x11 sheet and then cut the whole thing into small pieces, it will open the seal and cause peeling around the edges and either immediate or eventual damage to the laminated item.
