  1. I am currently using Zoology I with my DS9 & 11 and all is well. DS9 seems to hold his own with the info., and really enjoys it. My first thoughts when I looked at the book, was how would anyone younger be able to understand this?? LOL But, like another poster stated...it depends on the child. I personally think that the older, the better :)
  2. No, not my style...I'm an Ugg girl - if you take care of them....they last forever! I swear :)
  3. I laughed when I saw this post because this was SOOOO us today. I woke up late...the kids got up really late...and of course it was raining and 40 some-odd degrees this morning....ugh, forget about it! We usually start school at 9 ish....well, today it was 12 ish. We did a few subjects as it was working out terribly...and called it a day. Oh well
  4. I agree it was eventually both...but didn't they find out at the end that Spike wasn't the chosen one? Sorry, I forget...
  5. I've never heard of browning a pot roast before cooking it in the slow cooker...maybe that is part of the problem? I always have better results if I use "low" heat - always comes out the way it should (I have had mixed results with going from "high" to "low.").
  6. :iagree: She was ignorant and I don't think telling on her would have made a difference.
  7. Wow..11 is too old???? You might as well call-off Santa too....way too old for Christmas.....
  8. We used T4L last spring for 5th grade. My son really liked the math at first....but got sick of the animation. It was really nice to have someone else (so what if it was "Dan the Anchorman!") explain the new concepts. The only thing I didn't like was that they assumed you knew things already. If you didn't or couldn't remember something...you were out of luck. Also, if you wanted to review something....you'd have to watch it all over again (not always...there are points where they ask if you understand and if you would like to watch again...but not if you were finished). I often took notes to avoid this. :( We also had some problems with the program getting "stuck" and then we didn't receive credit for a few sections we did complete (including the quizzes). This was no big deal...I knew they were done...but it really bothered my son. There are worksheets to back-up the videos...if that wasn't enough you could definitely find more on some free sites. HTH :)
  9. My son was in PS until last June. He had speech therapy from Kindergarten through 3rd grade. I just don't know if it would be worth the hassle to try and "reinstate" it with our homeschooling status (and all of the budget cuts this year...). Like you, we weren't thrilled with the results.....so I think I am going to contact my insurance and go from there.
  10. Does anyone know if you can get speech therapy through your local PS in New Jersey? I know some states allow homeschoolers to do this...but I couldn't find anything regarding whether N.J. did or did not. Thanks,
  11. About $180.00 on Oak Meadow for my 4th grader (that was used approx. 2 weeks). It was completely wrong for him and nothing could be salvaged. Luckily, I was able to resell most of it (fingers crossed on the rest...).
  12. Thanks so much for the ideas! There are plenty of mornings we could use these!! We love smoothies - because they are quick, nutritious, lots of variety and FILLING:)
  13. My boys love Sculpey (polymer) clay - they are 9 and 11 :)
  14. We will be first time users of OM4 and OM6 this fall. I also had a major freak about the Language Arts section. I was afraid it would be too much to handle with 2 kids.....so I looked around and even ordered Growing with Grammar, Easy Grammar and LLATL. I thought they needed something more independent....but I just couldn't find anything that meshed with OM. - it seemed to take away from the program (just too different, I think). It seemed to take away from it. So they all went back....and we are going pure OM this fall. I felt we should at least give it a whirl....if over time it isn't working...then supplement :)
  15. I just saw the other day....2 Expo brand dry erase markers for $1.00, at the Dollar Tree (in N.J.). HTH :)
  16. I just bought "Soaring with Spelling and Vocabulary," for my sons who will be in 4th and 6th grade this fall. Haven't used them yet, but I really like the "looks" of them (the boys do too). http://www.growingwithgrammar.com/1swsProduct_Page.html
  17. I loved those books too...but I was afraid I would have to disregard too much material....so much for reselling that book, huh?? ;)
  18. It's funny - I love this forum and it has been a great source of info. But, I've also read numerous threads about certain math, grammar, etc....decided to buy that product ....and HATED it (sent it back the next day!). Everyone is different - you just can't sweat it. All that matters is that you are using something that works for you and your children. :)
  19. How neat - thanks for listing this site:)
