  2. :iagree: with that entire post!! It doesn't have to be a battle. This is an opportunity to learn together and allow her a chance to be involved with meal planning/preparing. What a sweet time!! :) Quinoa is a GREAT food to add into your pantry to use in place of a meat dish! So many ways it can be prepared. If you go to foodgawker.com and do a search you'll find plenty of ideas. :)

  5. One of my dd's has this issue with her scalp. Every so often I wash her hair in the sink so I can really get in there and scrub. I use Dr Bronner's soap then do a ACV rince. Then I make a mix of my Young Living oils and apply to her scalp with a q-tip. That way I'm getting the oils right onto her scalp to treat the skin. We've also used baby shampoo before at the recommendation of my hair stylist. It has worked ok.
  6. You don't have to rinse it. I've had times where I remembered and times when I forgot and there is no difference in taste. I use it in place of pasta for a "pasta" salad. We like quinoa, tomato, cucumber, olives, feta, and a greek dressing.   8. I put one tsp. of Braggs in my 20oz water bottle each morning with distilled water. Other recommendations are 1-2T in a gallon of water. You don't want to use the acv you get at WalMart, like Heinz brand. You want raw, unfiltered acv. Be sure to jiggle the bottle a little bit to get the good fermented bits distributed around. Those little strands and bits is the "mother", where all the good bacteria and nutrients are. It has so many benefits! There's lots of information out there if you do a web search. The only downsides are that you may detox just a bit (acne, heachache, etc.) as the helpful bacteria and nutrients are working to help heal your gut. I will say that doing 1t/daily in 20oz never caused me to notice any detox symptoms. If I forget to put it in my water, I can tell by the way I feel that day. I have much more energy when I do include it.
  9. When I had my m/c I was in the process of crocheting a blanket for the baby. After the loss I stopped working on it. One day I realized that finishing the blanket was a way for me to honor and remember my baby. If someone had given me a baby blanket, I would have been devastated. Just a reminder that it I don't have a baby to wrap in it. There's a difference between doing something for yourself to process the loss and having someone give you a gift that just magnifies the fact that your baby isn't going to be born. I agree that a card and a meal (or anything else she needs help with) will be much appreciated. And just being there for her. :grouphug:
  10. Yes. I don't think it's too bad either. Much tastier than liquid Geritol. I just always warn ladies about the taste. Otherwise I hear about it later. :lol:
  11. Iron pills are not that effective, IMO. They don't assimilate well in the body and can cause constipation. First increase your intake of iron-rich foods. Always go to food sources first. You can add something like Floradix or Hemaplex as a supplement. In my practice I've found that Floradix is more effective than Hemaplex. For a hemoglobin of 9 I recommend 2T/day of Floradix. If you choose to try Hemaplex, follow the dose on the box. Eat iron-rich foods and/or take the supplement with something that has Vitamin C. It will help the absorption. Some like to put the Floradix in a small glass of OJ or grape juice. Do not eat iron-rich foods and/or take the supplement with calcium-rich foods. That will hinder the absorption. Floradix isn't very tasty. ;) I've found that when women are needing a supplement, they LOVE the way it tastes. Then suddenly one day, as their body has recovered, it tastes like nails. You'll have bright yellow urine from the Floradix. That is just the excess B Vitamins that your body doesn't need. You should start feeling better quite soon. :)

  13. Good to know they are out there. :) Most I know IRL or have "met" online have gone through correspondence programs or self-study. Which is why I said "pretty much all" are correspondence. Didn't say "all". ;) Great option for those living locally or close-by who can move to do their schooling.
  14. Yes, one can start as a lay midwife and become a CPM. Self-study is an option for the PEP route along with the apprenticeship. Which schools are they? There are some CNM programs at universities but that's not what I was talking about. I was talking about programs for those of us seeking schooling to be a midwife other than a CNM. In six years I have yet to come across someone who is doing that type of schooling at anything other than via a correspondence program. Perhaps they are out there and I haven't heard of them. *shrug*
  15. Kudos to him for wanting to offer this!! We used to have a doctor (he has since passed away) who studied midwifery in England but practiced as an OBGYN here. Ditto the question about his license and/or insurance allowing him to catch babies outside of the hospital?? I know a doc who won't even come attend a home birth (in the background, just to see what it's like) because of this. I don't know of any midwifery schools that have training specifically for doctors. Because the models of care are so very different, he'd probably be wise to take time and study midwifery. He'll probably have to de-school a bit. ;) Most women who choose home birth want midwifery care, not medical care. He might look into CNM schools. Perhaps there is an option for admittance for medical doctors. The lay midwifery (for those who want CPM credentials) schools are pretty much all correspondence-based. He would probably have to do an apprenticeship alongside the didactic learning. On the NARM PEP application there is a spot to note if one has other credentials, including MD. But the other requirements still have to be met. :iagree: I can't tell you how valuable it is having a natural-birth, midwife, homebirth friendly doctor supporting us. It's SO hard to find doctors who will even be supportive, let alone take clients for transports or transfer of care situations.
  16. Honestly, a nice picture of your family (or the babies she caught) and a note of appreciation is enough. Midwifery is an amazingly wonderful job but it's also quite tough. Knowing that people think of us and appreciate what we do is so uplifting. If you're really wanting to do gifts here's what I'd suggest. Mw who is moving overseas: - Amazon gift card - jewelry (there is some pretty birth jewelry on Etsy, search "midwife" ) - donate to her or the group she's doing missionary work with - ask if you could renew her subscription to Midwifery Today or purchase one for her The other mws: - All of the above, except the donation to missionary work - Birth art or sculpture (i.e. Willow Tree) for her new office.
  17. We inherited one not long after we moved in. Our neighbors were moving out and didn't want it. So dh took it. I was not consulted for the decision. :mad: I do not like it. We have already had one broken arm on the dumb thing and that was with the net on it (ds mis-stepped, fell, and broke his arm). The net has since broken so the kids are not allowed on it. So now it's just an eyesore in our backyard. We had to sign something for our home insurance. Something about if anyone is over and gets injured on it, home ins. won't pay for medical care.
  18. If it tastes gross then you probably don't need it. ;) You can always mix it in some OJ or grape juice. It needs to be taken alongside something with Vit C anyway to aid absorption. When I have clients who need supplementation, they say it tastes sweet and they crave it. Then suddenly one day it will taste like nails to them. When I re-check, their hmg is normal. ;)
  19. I do also recommend Hemaplex to clients. For one it is more affordable. However, I have had a couple clients that respond much, MUCH better to Floradix.
  20. Whether or not one notices any differences from drinking it, RRL is still a beneficial herb for women. I prefer clients to drink a pregnancy tea blend. Those blends include other herbs that are beneficial for women during as well as after pregnancy.
