  1. We have a "kids are not allowed food or drink anywhere but the kitchen" rule. DH and I drink our coffee in the livingroom. I have to have water by my bed. I get horribly thirsty at night to the point it feels like my throat is closing. Camelback makes water bottles that you have to kind of bite the straw part and suck at the same time so it is not spillable. Maybe you can compromise and get her one of those. Tell her that your rule still exists and she will not be allowed food or other drinks but she can have this one bottle with water only. Explain to her that her teeth don't need to sit an bathe in sugar all night. If she breaks that rule, think of an appropriate consequence like scrubbing carpets with a scrub brush. http://shop.camelbak.com/eddy-75l/d/1012_cl_162
  2. Whew, thanks ladies for making me feel like my kid isn't going to flunk 3rd grade. I don't remember doing long division until about 4th grade also but that was a long time ago. I didn't hs my son so this is our first time with hs 3rd grade. I am checking out all your links!
  3. We are doing long division right now in ABeka 3. DD is just.not.getting.it! We talk about the steps. We do extra practice every day. I write the steps on the bottom of the page and she can't remember where the numbers go or what the steps are. Does anyone have any really great tips/videos/resources, etc? Thanks so much.
  4. I had a 3 and besides dropping it and smashing the screen which I fixed and then dropping it in the toilet, which killed it, it worked for 2 years and was going strong. I have another 3 now and will not upgrade for a while. I do want the 5 and my contract is up but for a few reasons, I am waiting. I am in school and when I have to start clinicals (hands on) I need the newest version of an IPhone and that isn't for another 18 months so I am waiting to get the newest one then. If I upgrade now, it won't be 2 years before I start clinicals and then my phone might be too old.
  5. I drew lines on a piece of felt, the 25cent kind, with a marker and had DD follow the lines. The biggest part of sewing is following a line and curve. Also, have her learn reverse and staying on the same line while going in reverse. The felt is nice because it is thicker, easier to hang onto and doesn't slip. White felt and colored thread works great.
  6. The earlier the ultrasound, the more accurate it is. This is why inductions can be iffy. She could be induced, say the 10th, and have her baby be almost 2-3 weeks early. The baby will come when it wants. Good luck.
  7. I became a mom at 17 and a grandma at 36. I now have 3 grandkids including my 3yo GD, my newest grandson via marriage (DIL came with a little boy) and my newest granddaughter who is 3 months. Just encourage your DD to follow her dreams of education, employment, etc. I stayed in school, went to nursing school when my son was 2, and am in Grad school now. Just because she is a younger mom, doesn't mean her life is over. The olden days of shaming an unmarried mom are gone (in my book anyway!) Congrats!!!
  8. I was correcting DD's math today and noticed she didn't carry any numbers on her multiplication problems today. I didn't ask her if she used a calculator, I asked her "what calculator did you use to do your math?" She asked " :confused1: How did you know?!?!" So, I told her moms know everything, all the time! hahahaha... score one for mom! Then I explained that someday, she will get to use the calculator but she needs to understand how and why we do math by hand using the calculator in our brains first. Silly girl!
  9. I am done buying, wrapping and packing. The box goes out tomorrow! I am so excited I got to be an elf this year! I will definately do this every year! I wrapped each thing for my special family, that way even mom and dad don't know what it is...truely a suprise!
  10. No, you can't. I had an IPhone and I dropped in the toilet. Then I got a plain non-smart phone with no data plan to save money on my plan since my phone was broke anyway. I hated my dumb phone and bought a used IPhone since my DSD told me I could use my Sim card in it and use it as a dumb phone. It worked for a while. Then one day I got a text message from ATT saying "We see you are enjoying your IPhone, so we added a data package to your plan". Ugh-busted!
  11. I am going to fold the 3 days worth of laundry that I have piled a mile high on my bedroom floor. (where is the little smilie that hides under a chair?) I am also going to clean our school room which has turned into a catch all for some reason! I am also going to go to the fabric store sometime today and make DD-3 a car seat poncho (a poncho from fleece that fits over the car seat straps). She HATES her coat on in the car because she is too bulky and too hot and it is getting mighty cold her in Montana. That's going to be my Wedneday...oh and get school done with DD-8.
  12. I haven't heard anything from anyone. I hope my PM went through. Sign me up for a giver.
  13. Thanks for being the moderator for this. I PMd you as a giver.
  14. I have them both. The IPad is more like a mini computer, the kindle has some good apps and is a good reader and Netflix.
  15. When I hook my tv and computer together, I have to turn them both off, hook them up and then turn them both on again as well as push the imput button to HDMI. Hope that helps.
  16. I am officially a student nurse midwife! I am very excited to be on the road to my dream, obstacles and all.
  17. I have an 8 year old that is pretty unmotivated most of the time but can light her own fire sometimes. I would not give your DSD rewards leading up to a big reward. I would set a time limit every day, at a certain time ie: 15 minutes at 5pm for her to work on her math. I would not leave it up to her. If you leave it to her, obviously she isn't getting it done. I would maybe make a sticker chart for every lesson in the book and when she gets done with that lesson she can have a sticker. Kind of like a count down to being done. I would not do a leap pad game for 5 lessons, a movie for 2 lessons, etc, etc. Getting a laptop is THE reward, plain and simple. Sit down and explain this to her. No more little rewards (except stickers) and if she doesn't finish the book, that is her own fault. Sorry, I am more of a hard @$$ than most probably. I bought my DD a ride on our hospital's Mercy Flight helicopter this summer at a benefit for one of the pilots. She has to earn it by reading 1000 pages before her birthday December 6th. I used to remind her everyday that I WILL NOT let her go if she doesn't read her pages. I finally quit reminding her and told her that I wasn't going to nag her. If she doesn't do it, she will not get it. She has been reading in the car whenever we go somewhere and is keeping track by herself of her pages. Good luck.
  18. 68 all winter. DH has a cow if anyone turns it up. My sister stayed with us for 6 weeks and turned the heater up in the basement to 80 and I have never seen him so mad! (she keeps her house 80--I can't stand it). If you are cold, put on a blanket, they are on every couch...that is DH's motto.
  19. My son and DIL-2-b named their baby Prudence. I wouldn't personally name a baby that but she birthed it, she can name it...that is my philosophy! You birth it, you name it, you mom can get glad in the same pants she got mad in!
  20. It is probably actually a decent price. I just sold my 2001 Saturn for $1800 (had it for 2K but went down). We sold it because we have too many cars and I wanted a Yukon. It was a great little car BUT... (there is always one of those right?) it was a buggar to find parts for and the parts were expensive! For instance, my heater core went out and it was $300 for a new one. A heater core for step daughter's truck was $30. They don't make parts anymore so finding parts is hard. If you are willing to risk having to nickle and dime it, it is a good price.
  21. Word of the wise...do NOT stock up on a bunch of formula. I did this with little DD and she didn't tolerate it and I had to sell it all (thankfully I did sell it!)
