  1. DD likes workbooks. I really wanted to get away from them this year and incorporate more of a CM style into our learning, which works great for science and history so we will stick with that. As much as I hate "plug and chug" idea of workbooks, I ordered a CLE Language 3 light unit for DD to trial. I like it! I like the spelling words in it, the practice cursive in the back, the short lessons, etc. Right now we are using ABeka for language and spelling. The spelling words have NOTHING to do with each other phonetically speaking-which DD still needs. She is not a natural speller. I am also starting my Master's program for nursing in January so I need DD to be able to work more independently on a few things so I still have time to do some preschool with little DD and my school (and cook, clean, grocery shop, work, laundry...etc, etc!) I like the Math in CLE (from the looks of it) because it has so much built in review and practice vs. me telling her what to do from the ABeka math teacher/lesson plan book. I just ordered all of the Math and the rest of the Light units for 3rd grade Language. I think I am going to have her work as independently as she can on those subjects and still read science and history together. Does this sound like a workable plan....ie: I am not going to screw up her education by allowing more independent work?????
  2. "John and his wife Elizabeth Lowry established their homestead for his family and other Ball relatives: Francis Ball, and his wife Grace Flook and 3 sons, from 1839-1848, when they relocated to Harwich Township, Kent County; and his brother William's son Thomas, until John's death in 1877." I think John made his homestead and the Ball family are his wife's relatives. William is John's brother. JMO.
  3. Nance, I have no advice but hugs! I am so sorry this isn't working again.
  4. My mom is 100% uninterested in my life...and the feelings are mutual. I don't care that my children don't have a relationship with her because she is an alcoholic. My mom came over after we had lived in our new house for over a year (at my invitation) and she looked at our homeschool room and asked "You homeschool your kids?" This was when DD was in 2nd and I have homeschooled her since 1/2 through K. My mom didn't have a clue. Sometimes you have to just walk away. You can't make her want to have a relationship with your kids. Your kids will be just fine.
  5. I am a nurse too and I just took my DD-3 to the ER for a temp of 105 WITH motrin on board already. I am good with 102 and even 103 but 105 is beyond my comfort zone. My son and my niece have seizures and I don't want to deal with that. 105 is in the seizure zone. That is why I took my child to the ER with a fever.
  6. 2 words.......GOOSE BUMPS!!!!!!!!! Thanks for that!
  7. I would wait it out, stay home as long as you can (assuming you are going somewhere else to delivery) and hope that nice midwife is on.
  8. Here is what I know about BCBS (in Montana anyway) and WLS. You have to have a BMI of 40 or above and you have to have other comorbidities like diabetes for example. I think...you have to have 2 other comorbidities or you have to have followed a diet under a doctor's supervision for 6 months to qualify. I am a professional weight loser. I am just very good at finding what I lost! I would love to have the gastric band done but I haven't been under a medical weight loss plan for 6 months. I also don't have diabetes. I have insulin resistance from PCOS. Good luck
  9. If you go to pinterest and look at repurposed cribs, you can find one that is turned into a crafting station. I LOVE IT!!!!
  10. I would ask like this "If we came down your way, is there any inexpensive hotels close to your house?" Then if they give you the hotel name, they don't want you at their house. If they say "Oh, you can't stay at a motel, you have to stay here so we can catch up!" then you have your answer!
  11. Preteen/teenage boys have brains?????? I didn't think their brains formed until their 30s!
  12. Not going to happen here either! My 3rd grader needs to still be told to take a shower, let alone do all of her work on her own accord.
  13. Castor oil has been known to cause the baby to pass meconium, FYI. I would do s3x, nipple stimulation and walking. It is sure to happen in the next few days (unless baby is waiting for Christmas!)
  14. Build the biggest fence you can that faces her house and paint really really ugly camo or something on the side that she would see. Then drink a cup of tea and be glad you aren't in her Nasty Ugly Crappola-of-a-life shoes.
  15. I just threw away 2 garbage bags of junk out of 3yo DD's playroom. Stuff like McD's toys, broken stuff, paper she cut up, toys she doesn't play with, etc! It is the only room in the house that has toys and it was a disaster!
  16. This is little Prudence! I am in love! She looks just like my DS when he was little. The 2nd picture is my son-21, my 8yo DD, my 3yoDD, my almost 3yo DGD, my 1 1/2 yo DGS (will be my grandson when my DS and his mom get married) and my 4day old DGD.
  17. All on the same day! Prudence Gloria-Marie was born yesterday and I got my official acceptance to school for midwifery! I am so excited! We are out of town until Monday so I have to wait until then to see the baby. Come on Monday!!!! I will post a picture when I get home since I am on my phone.
  18. I live in the same town as our daughter's first mom. We meet occasionally for park play time, birthday parties, etc. She always introduces DD as "this is my daughter. I gave her up for adoption." I don't deny her that fact and I don't tell her that makes me feel weird (I don't know why it does, it just does.) I purposely print pictures of DD and give them to her of our meetings together. Just blow it off and kiss your baby and be thankful you get to be the forever mommy and help him grow into a better person.
  19. I need one more thing to suck up my time please. Can I be a part?
  20. I MADE my DH get a man chair when we bought our new house. I also made a "no shoes in the house" rule. He is a mechanic/farmer that works from home. When we got married he quickly ruined my almost new microsuede couch set from his dirty clothes. I bought new furniture for our new house and told him to pick out a recliner, any color he wants as long as it is dark brown () and that is THE ONLY place he can sit when he is dirty. The other day he came in and went to lay on the couch and he jumped up like his pants were on fire and said "OH, I better change my clothes first!"
  21. My house is clean like soap and water wise (most of the time!) but there is areas that tend to clutter. The bathroom sink in the main bath is one. I don't know why but the brushes, hair bands, bobby pins, etc just.can't.make.it to the drawer unless I put them there (this is my stepdaughter's stuff). Another area that gets "cluttered" is an area right infront of little DD's dresser which is in my room and that is me just plain being lazy and not putting away her laundry but leaving it in the basket. The end of one kitchen counter also gets cluttered thanks to DH who is the biggest culprit, change, a belt, tools, receipts, etc. Other than those areas, most of the house is pretty clutter free but it could quickly get away from me if I don't keep up on it. I am going away for a week in November for my Master's and I am dreading what my house is going to look like when I get back. When I work 3 twelve hour shifts in a row it looks like a hurricaine came through.
  22. I am a horrible "grossophobe" and it wouldn't gross me out. I am a nurse and don't change my scrubs until bed. I DO change my scrubs at work if I get soiled. (we have ugly light green scrubs but I have taken a few sets home because the hospital laundry soap makes me itch so I launder my own) I wash my hands a lot and I really do perform gel in/gel out when in contact with patients.
