  1. How about the Hardy Boys (I know not really classified as classic but they are adventure).
  2. Over $1000 in allergist bills later, DD, who suffers from seasonal allergies, is on Allegra over the counter. With all the testing they did, etc you would think they had a wiz bang cure. I am going to try b5-thanks for the tip. Also, I have heard that a teaspoon a day of honey that is locally made helps (although it takes a long time for it to be effective).
  3. Give him magnesium. A perinatologist I work with told me to do this when I was having leg cramps a while back. Also, when my son was having these, I gave him warm milk and told him that would fix it. (mind over matter)
  4. YAY!!!!!! I am glad he is getting his "brave" back!
  5. So many good thoughts, thank you all. I might try a little coffee for her in the morning. She is the most fidgity kid I know, constantly playing or fiddling with pencils, paper, hair, the arm of the chair, etc. Today went much better. She was very excited about getting to do a maps/geography workbook that I picked up as a supplement to do at the end of the day. She also liked the new science journal that we implemented today. She loved drawing the backbone of a cat for an example of a vertebrate.
  6. Anne of Green Gables James and the Giant Peach The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)
  7. I loved Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. It is set in WW2 era, and talks about the Japanese concentration camps here in the US. No sex and no war. It is a nice relaxing read and Jamie's writing makes you feel like you are there.
  8. The spotting is actually probably a good sign. It can be a sign of implantation at that gestational age. Also, request to be put on progesterone. It can help maintain a pregnancy early on with a threatened miscarriage. Good luck to you. ETA, just read the part about a prescription for progesterone. That is a good thing.
  9. I am no expert but my 8 1/2 year old DD is no where near that level of writing. He is very imaginative and I think it looks very good.
  10. It is our first day and I think I have said that about 123 times already....I said it so much that I made a "reward" system out of it today. My 8yo has a HUGE tendency to go spacy, start jabbering about unrelated stuff, stop what she is doing and stare at what I am working on, etc. I NEED her to learn to stay on task (something that in 2.5 years of schooling her, I haven't been able to accomplish). I will be doing preschool stuff with 3yo DD and I start my Masters program in January. I do not and will not have time to waste 2 hours doing 4 pages in math...like today grrrrrrr. So, I made a simple rewards/punative system today. I printed off a bunch of cards that have a clock on them. I wrote up 3 rules of the system. 1. You will earn a card for completing an assignment without me having to say "stay on task". 2. You will get a card taken away for me saying it and wasting my time and yours. 3. At 15 cards earned, you can pick from the rewards jar. In the jar, I put in slips of paper that have various things, rent a movie, an ice cream, mom will paint your nails, etc...all fun things for her. I hope this works because I am already frustrated and its only the first day. We dealt with this way too much last year. I am not doing it this year.
  11. Yay!!! Our first day is about 1/2 done. We just finished lunch and DD is writing her spelling words right now so I am taking a coffee break.
  12. We are also starting today. Last night I reminded 8yo DD that we are starting school in the morning and 3yo DD said "with me too?" so at least someone is excited! I need more coffee!
  13. I am allergic to cats and I have a few, one in the house that we had to bottle feed, the mama outside and an old barn cat at our farm. I love my cats. If your family is ready for animals, do it. MIL can come or not come...her choice.
  14. I am trying to plan airline ticketsto go to orientation for my Master's. Delta is the carrier. Which is better to go through, Delta.com, or another site like travelocity, etc? I also need to rent a car but no motel. I haven't bought plane tickets for a few years and then only once in like 20 years! Yikes. Is there a better day to buy them for a better price (someone told me Wednesdays are better). Thanks Hive!
  15. I just finished my BSN this last December and I homeschooled through it. My first semester was 19 credits and it was tough but I did it. I am not going to overthink the future. That will be my key to not having a panic attack thinking about it! :001_smile:
  16. Here is a picture of me and my mother. I am in the 9th grade. We were in a play at our local theater. The play was "Guys and Dolls" We needed a bag lady so my mom stepped in at the last minute. I don't have a great relationship with my mom but this is one of my best memories of her and I.
  17. I posted a long while ago about my struggles in my mind with going back for my Master's in Nursing/midwifery. I took 44 credits in 12 months for my Bachelor's in order to move straight on for my MSN and then DH decided he didn't want me to go, worried about money, finding enough clients afterwards, homeschooling, working....etc, etc... all the things I need to balance on my plate. The next application date for the school I wanted to attend was due August 10th and all I needed to do was send in my final transcripts. I have carried them in my purse for the last week or so and waivering back and forth but really wanting to just do it and thinking I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't. Then at work the other day I got the last little push I needed. I had a patient who was being induced and I took over at 3pm. To make a long story short, at 3pm, she was just starting to dilate and the provider had plans to head out of town so she got a C-section...don't get me started!!! I was so angry I thought I was going to cry and I was shaking when I came home that night, still mad. The bad thing is, this happens all.the.time!!! I hit the fax start button so fast I thought it would start on fire! I came home and told my husband that I just can't do that anymore. I can't stand to sit back and watch as people get unneeded major surgery just to accomodate a provider's schedule. I have seen it happen for manicure dates, T-times, etc. It makes me SICK!!! So, I either need to find another job or go to school. I can't imagine myself doing anything but OB nursing so off to school I go. I can't change the way other providers practice for their patients, I can only change it for the patients that choose me as their provider. Even just typing this out makes me shake with anger! So in the words of Ghandi...I am going to be the change I want to see in the world. Thankfully, my husband isn't mad and understands me.
  18. THIS!!!!! Don't dread what bad happened for 1 year out of the 24....celebrate what good happened out of the 24! Choose to put on a good attitude and love that you and your DH are working through it TOGETHER!!! Happy Anniversary!!!
  19. My 3yo loves to jump off the couch and see how far she can jump. I told her the other day that she is going to break her arm doing that. "No, I won't...it's glued on!" and kept on jumping.
  20. I do it alone but I consider it as part of my parenting responsibility. I don't look to friends, groups, co-ops, etc to tell me how to parent. I know we have local homeschoolers but I am not part of their activities. I just feel like I don't need the "well, my 8 year old is going algebra" (while mine is trying to memorize times tables) competition.
  21. My kids just listened to James and the Giant Peach and my 3yo retained all of the names of the bugs in the story. We listened to it in the car.
  22. Movie theater during Bucket List (kind of ironic...we can cross that one off!)....we were the only people there and it was more of a quicky:lol:
