Here is our story. I have two school aged children 6 and almost 8. Public school grades would be 2nd and 1st. The second grader has been through Abeka K and almost all the way through Abeka 1st. We are burnt out on it and ready for a change. (We were trying to do DVDs) She is an excellent math student, handwriting is great, but she is a below average reader. My first grader has had no former schooling until this year. I tried abeka k with him last year and it was a disaster. He had a severe speech delay. He didn't talk until he was 4 so I thought delaying school another year for him was best. That has proved to be true because we started working on letter sounds with abeka again this year and it's been light years easier. But I've decided I can't look at another year of all abeka so this is what we've been doing for about a week. 2nd grade- All about Reading- I have levels one and two ready. Since she is a struggling reader I wanted to take her back to beginning to gain confidence. She is going really quickly through 1 and we are both enjoying it. I think she will also do well with 2. 3 is where we might need to slow down. All about spelling- I plan on adding this when we are a little further into AAR. R&S english 2- I know we wouldn't have to do this, but we do it together and she writes some of it out and I count that as handwriting practice. She enjoys it. CLE Math 2- she tested ready for 200 level. This came today and we will start tomorrow. 1st grade AAR- he is on lesson 3 and making progress Pentime handwriting CLE math 1 I'm not worried about any extras right now. My main goal is to get them reading well this year. Does this look okay? I need some reassurance :)

I'm considering ordering AAS 1 for my 5 and 6 year olds. The website says that each child needs their own divider cards and review box. Is that really necessary or will it be one of those things I order and never use? Also does anyone have any idea who would ship the fastest All About Learning, Rainbow Resource or somewhere else?

We are! I'm expecting a baby in January so I wanted an early start. I'm ready and public school starts here on the 7th anyway.

I agree with counter space and I would add a BIG refrigerator and good size pantry.

Don't miss the three different writing ones on writing...one for elementary, middle, and high school. I think they are called "a plan for teaching writing". I listen to these every 6 months or so.

I have read TWTM all the way through. I came to the boards after reading it.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm still considering AAR. I will consider the other ideas too. The teacher in me just had to start with the classroom model. It's not working!

Would All About Reading fit this description? I know something like Phonics Pathways or OPGTR would, but I'm looking for something a little more than that. My oldest child is in K. I also have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. I started the school year with traditional school materials. School is not getting done the way I'd like and we are about to go crazy with the traditional school workbooks! HELP!!!

Am I the only one that thought it was an advertisement for a new lecture called "Get Inspired!". I went to the site looking for it and couldn't find it. When I finally figured it out, I felt stupid!

I use them a lot because I'm using the program with a Ker and I'm trying to stretch it out for two years. You don't *NEED* them, but I like them. The answers to every practice sheet are in the back of the TM. You could purchase the TM first to look at them and see if you'd like to have them.

Never mind I was wrong abou KY. I found this info on my state homeschool association website. If you live in one of the following states, your homeschooled student is allowed to participate in athletics in your local public school: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, and Washington.

I'd be fine with waiting until 1st grade.

The grade they would be in at public school. I think when most people ask the question they are just wondering about how old thy are.

:iagree: I agree especially with the carseat issue. Many people don't realize that five year olds need carseats. They are old enough to ride on school buses. I wouldn't feak out until I knew the story maybe she just needed to go get tampons or something.

No, I wouldn't put my kids in a church that I didn't believe just because I liked the people. I can relate to how you are feeling b/c I have been tempted to do the same. :grouphug:
