  1. Those of us with Aspie graphic designer nerd students will point out that some kids DO notice the font and overall design of the curriculum, and will complain. Often. Wendi
  2. I got a cold three weeks ago, which then developed into bronchitis. I went to the doctor last week, and he prescribed an antibiotic. I am not coughing much anymore at all; just once or twice a day I cough a little. But I can still feel the congestion/inflammation in my chest. It sometimes hurts a little, or itches, and I notice the feeling of heaviness or tightness, and the little rattly feeling. I am taking Mucinex and drinking lots of liquids to try to loosen up the mucus, but I'm not coughing anything up. Is there anything else I should try? Thanks, Wendi
  3. Just thought I'd chime in with a different POV. :-) To me, the bigger issue seems to be his anxiety. It's a good idea to talk about how to determine when a source is reliable, but if he's lying awake worrying about things regularly, that's a problem. Do you see other signs of anxiety? (Being distracted, easily upset, stomach problems, etc.) Sounds like he also could be kind of intense, and have trouble shifting gears or letting go of what *he* thinks is true once he makes up his mind. I could be way off, but I just thought I'd chime in. Wendi
  4. I'd go to southern California, or Lake Tahoe (not as warm, but gorgeous). There's also gambling in Lake Tahoe (on the Nevada side). Arizona's beautiful, and we do have casinos here on the reservations. Wendi
  5. I agree the Bushman blog doesn't seem helpful for the majority of us. $40 a month for gas? That won't fill pay for one tank of gas, and with dh's commute to work and ds's appointments across town three times a week, we are using a lot of gas right now. I also don't understand how her utilities can be $25. Does anyone else here pay that little? She also doesn't budget anything for car maintenance, health, clothes, home maintenance. How will they maintain their house and car? How do they pay for health care? I'll go check out the other blog now, and see if it's more applicable to my life. Wendi
  6. My teenage son and I recently got hooked on "24". We're almost at the end of season two now. Wendi
  7. My teenage son is convinced these are signs of a coming zombie apocalypse. Wendi
  8. I'd stick with what you have. Maybe get a new tabletop cut to size. You can get a larger tabletop than you currently have, and attach it to the current top, can't you? Then get a cool tablecloth. The other set doesn't look like it's what you want, and that's a lot of money for something you don't really want. It'd be a lot cheaper to get a bigger table at Ikea to go with your chairs, and just wait until you can replace the whole set someday. Wendi
  9. I'd be worried, too. I've always heard that burns that size should be seen by a doctor. Poor kid. I had a second degree burn on my thigh, not as larger as hers, and it hurt a LOT! Silvadene will help it heal and protect it from infection, but that's only available by prescription, right? I'd have asked the mom about how it happened, too. Did your dh ask? Was lighter fluid spilled somewhere? Wendi
  10. I have "issues" with beans. I used to eat baked beans a lot as a kid, until the time I couldn't finish my dinner, and my grandfather made me eat cold baked beans. I couldn't stand the texture of them when they were cold! So the texture of beans still bothers me. But I am working on it. I make chili. As long as the beans are hot, and mixed in with other foods, it's okay. I also am completely grossed out by potato salad, egg salad or macaroni salad. To me, potatoes, eggs and macaroni should be served hot, not cold. The idea of cold potatoes with mayo and whatever else is in there . . . bleh. I also love dishes with cooked tomatoes, tomato sauce, etc. But I don't like raw tomatoes. I've never tried liver, but I am not interested in eating any organ meats. I'm also not a fan of canned fruits, like others have mentioned. But I do like bananas! Wendi
  11. I do theatre and classical choral singing. Actually, I am now rehearsing for a production of "The Music Man". I love it. Acting is something that I did when I was single, and I didn't do any shows for many years, until ds was old enough that I could be out of the house more. Wendi
  12. That's what I was confused about, too. I remember reading a book about bipolar, and the author really stressed that putting someone on an antidepressant alone for bipolar can make them worse. Wendi
  13. Yay! I'm so glad things are improving for you guys. And, hey, I didn't realize someone else on here had tendon damage from Cipro. I was limping around in pain for several months two years ago. It did heal, and now I'm pain-free. (Although hiking still makes me nervous!) Wendi
  14. Usually about 77-78. We live in a very hot climate (central AZ), and if we kept it lower, our utility bills would be even crazier than they already are in the summer! I'd like to keep it a little higher (maybe 80) if we could, but our house is very poorly insulated, and it seems like any higher than 78 is too warm for us. Wendi
  15. I had an 8GB iPod Touch. Eventually, I found I had to "rotate" my music on and off the iPod; I didn't have room for all of it. It didn't bother me, though. If it's the newer iPod Touch (I assume it is), he will probably start taking up a lot of space with pics and videos. Like others have said, it's easy to transfer those to a computer and delete them from the iPod. If he doesn't want to wait and save up for something bigger, an 8GB can work fine. He just will have to periodically purge apps and music he's not using, and download and delete videos and pictures. Wendi
  16. We saw the movie Friday night. When that happened, about half the audience broke out into applause. (Including me. :D ) "I am a god, you dull creature, and I will not be bullied..." Wendi
  17. I was just trying to talk dh and ds into making a pinhole viewer for us. We live in Arizona, so we should have a good view. Wendi
  18. It seems to be a generational thing in our family. We like our veggies crisp and bright, so I boil corn for about 5 minutes, 10 tops. But my mom and MIL both boil their vegetables for a LOOOONNG time! :D Wendi
  19. :grouphug: I'm sorry. She may have Asperger's or something, so try not to take her lack of social skills personally. Wendi
  20. I have all my frequently-used spices and seasonings (soy sauce, sesame oil, etc.) in a bamboo Lazy Susan on the counter. The others are in my cabinet. I've been reorganizing a lot lately, and I still need to figure out the best way to store those. I'll probably clean out the drawer right at my food prep area, and store them lying down in the drawer. I keep the baking stuff (vanilla, cream of tartar, baking soda and powder) in the cabinet with the flour, sugar, chocolate chips, etc. Wendi
  21. I'd go for it. It has special meaning to your dh, and it's a middle name, not a first name. Wendi
  22. Why are rugs so darn expensive? I am about ready to start redecorating the family room, but I'll need a new area rug. They're so expensive! Where can I find a moderate quality, attractive rug for a good price? Wendi
  23. Yikes! I'd be freaking out over their methods, but delighted with their decorating ideas. Wendi
