  1. It sounds like the relationship was always lopsided...with you making the effort. I've btdt with someone who later tried to reconnect with me. It still ended up being/feeling lopsided. So I just had to let the relationship go. It wasn't worth the effort and I simply didn't have the wherewithall to pursue such a friendship. Do you think that if you responded and tried to reconnect, that the relationship would be reciprocated on the level you need it to be? :grouphug: I'm sorry she wasn't there for you when you needed her.
  2. My dd had top braces put on in August. Even with motrin and tylenol around the clock, she was very, very uncomfortable and could not chew for several days. She lived on applesauce, mashed potatoes, and liquids. It was too uncomfortable for her to bring her teeth together to chew even soft noodles. Hopefully your dd won't be that bad. Is there any way they can reschedule for the following week?
  3. When I did our cleanout in August, I started with a tiny shoe/coat closet that was just a place for miscellaneous stuff that I was wanting to use for storage of important/must keep things. Because the space was very limited, I was motivated to get rid of more stuff. After the closet, I started in the kitchen/dining area because it is the center of our home. Then the living room got cleaned out. Then the bedrooms. The sunroom was last because I used this as a 'staging area' for boxes to go to goodwill, trash, etc... And although I just did a cleanout, I am already feeling like I need to get rid of even more stuff. :) It is kind of addicting.
  4. a picture of the cormorant skirt that was worn by the Lost Woman of San Nicholas (Island of the Blue Dolphins)? My internet searches are coming up with text only. Thanks!
  5. That is fantastic! I require that my kiddos drink 3 cups of water per day or they lose their computer priviledges. lol. They wouldn't drink ANY water if I didn't make them.
  6. Yep. Same here. Rice milk, water, and juice is all that dd drinks. I've tried to get her to drink coconut milk more, but she really prefers rice and would rather drink nothing than drink coconut milk exclusively.
  7. Oh I am so, so sorry that the news wasn't better. :grouphug:
  8. Nutritional issues is my first thought, but dogs can do some weird stuff without an explanation. Check the dog's immunization record to be certain he is updated on Parvo. It is transmitted through the soil and can be deadly.
  9. Chocolate Fudge Brownie Frozen yogurt! It is by far the best ice cream I have had in a very long time. I have bought a variety of things over the years but nothing in particular that is a must-have or a regular purchase.
  10. I make fried rice with bacon. Fry up 6 slices of bacon til crispy. Remove it to cool. Use the bacon grease to fry up the onions and other veggies. (I assume you know how to make fried rice?) Then continue the recipe as normal. Don't drain off the grease because the rice coated in it is yummmmm. Not good for the cholesterol, but a yummy treat. We never have leftovers of bacon fried rice. :)
  11. I had purchased R&S spelling for my 8th grader and decided against using it just because of how long it takes her. She used R&S 7 last year and it was just too much. She was unable to even make it through the book. we have been using Spelling Power, but I decided to drop it and just have her work on her misspelled words in her writing.
  12. Your description reminds me of my dh's MRSA (except for the b00k part...lol).
  13. Yes I would accept the contingent offer since they are in the closing process now. However, I would make sure that there was a contingency that you could continue to show the house and accept back up offers in case their closing fell through, which would make their contract with you null and void. ETA: I just went back and read some other answers. : ) We must be rare ones...a seller accepting back up offers was not off-putting for us at all when we were looking to buy. Real estate contracts fall through all.the.time. You just never know.
  14. I used to do the SAME thing!!! I also have thyroid trouble. Forgetfulness is one of the first signs that I need my meds adjusted. :grouphug: So my suggestions is to have your blood drawn and have a FULL thyroid panel done...not just the basic test. Edited to add: my thyroid tanked within months of having my dd. My doctor told me that pregnancy is a common catalyst of thyroid problems.
  15. My ds is 8.5 and still is not a fluent reader. He struggled and struggled. He still is not where I would like him to be as far as reading level. I just have to be patient and wait for it to click. And it IS clicking little by little but some days the progress stops and he goes backwards. My advice...go back a few lessons, practice patience, and keep plodding along. I got some super easy readers for ds to break up the phonics lessons that were so boring to him. That gave him a desire to want to learn to read. And I would switch off paragraphs for him, and even re-read to him what he had just read to me. But it wasn't until he was newly 8 that he sought out books to read on his own. And still, ds will go without reading if he can. He would rather ask someone what something says than to sound it out. :001_huh: We do.not.indulge at this point. I used to, but he can read well enough now that I make him sound stuff out. You know, my dh is in his 40's. I have not seen him pick up a book for pleasure reading since I have known him...more than 18 years. That makes me sad because I know there is a world of adventure that he is missing by not reading. But it just does not interest him. I suspect my ds will be a lot like dh.
  16. We have a DK book on rocks and minerals that has been very helpful. http://www.amazon.com/DK-Handbooks-Minerals-Chris-Pellant/dp/156458061X
  17. Okay I did the switcheroo thing with math for far too long!!! My dd does not like math. She struggles to 'get' the concepts. This has been an ongoing issue for years. What I did: I gave her the online ACE placement test, purchased the gap PACES, and am currently trying to catch her up to grade level. This has been working very well. We took a detour to Life of Fred Fractions when she failed her last PACE (which was fractions and decimals). I will have her complete Life of Fred Decimals after Fractions, then will give her the online test again and see where she places. (I am trying NOT to think about what will happen if she tests back from where she was...). So my advice is to follow your own advice and do the ACE placement. :) With the math whiz, go to Barnes and Noble and purchase a workbook for the math gifted student. That can challenge him. OR you can test him out of chapters of his math book so that he isn't having to work problems that he already knows. Then he can work ahead of what he already knows to keep him challenged a bit.
  18. When selling a couple years ago, we got an offer $32,000 less than asking. We were shocked to say the least. An offer 18 k under asking...I could work with that. You could counter offer 5 less than asking and see if they will meet you anywhere near the middle of the difference. 18 k is a lot...but in this market, all offers should be considered imo.
  19. :grouphug: Keep going! It will start to look different soon. We did a HUGE declutter challenge in August and got rid of a bunch of stuff. We had a yard sale at my moms and got rid of 5 items. It was SO sad. So it is all going to second hand tomorrow. Yay! Now after reading this thread...I am looking at my sunroom at the piles of books that have been waiting patiently to be donated to the library. I have such a hard time with books. But I have no more room for another bookshelf. So out they go tomorrow.
  20. Cheese-less pizza is pretty tasty. My dd doesn't miss the cheese at all. Most cheese substitutes that she has tried, she doesn't care for.
  21. He is beautiful!! I've never seen an all white German Shepherd before.
