  1. I understand why they have the suggestion, but like the pp said, they cannot legally keep you from re-selling it. fwiw, I re-sold my WP guide and did so without guilt. : )
  2. I have had both good and bad experiences with the shipping and customer service. They are super nice folks but that doesn't undo the customer service issues. I just wish they could get the shipping/inventory stuff worked out. They have some really neat programs that my son would love. I may order from them in the future, but I will only order exclusives that I can't get anywhere else. That seems to be the key...they have exclusives in stock, but don't maintain inventory of the other books. I hope it all shows up soon so you can get started!
  3. This isn't a specific answer to your question...but thought it could be useful to someone anyway. My dd (8th grade) has struggled with math (I think she just doesn't like it!) and has a hard time with spiral maths. I used ACE to catch her up to grade level by using the PACES that the online placement recommends. Now she is using MUS pre-algebra. The math is not hard for her. But she is understanding and retaining. And she still balks about there being letters in math. lol! She dislikes the honors lessons because they make her think outside the box of what she has learned. Sometimes I have her do them, sometimes not. What I like about MUS is that the lessons are based on exactly what Mr. Demme discussed in the video. I like that a subject doesn't have to be difficult for my dd to learn and understand. BUT I don't think I will use MUS for my son (3rd grade) who is math and mechanically minded because he would be bored stiff.
  4. We pray James 1:5. Then we read whatever I have been studying on my own...that helps give additional thought and clarity. Lately we have been reading through Acts and discussing it verse by verse. I am always amazed by what we learn! I stopped using any type of curricula years ago. We use the KJV and a concordance.
  5. I think a lot of us are/were nervous about highschool. Once I started researching credits, programs, transcripts, and the like, the nervousness went away. Now I am really excited for this fall!! I armed myself with information and that gave me the confidence I needed to realize that I CAN teach highschool. So that would be my recommendation to you...start researching and start with whatever is making you the most nervous. For me, it was transcripts. Once I got that figured out, all the rest seemed easier.
  6. Well, we find Math-U-See Pre-algebra to be easy to understand. The lessons are short and dd is understanding and remembering. : )
  7. I would get Sonlight Cores P3/4 and 4/5. Lots of good books and stories there that your kids will treasure for several years at least.
  8. Hopefully you get an offer quickly!! It IS exhausting to show a home. I am glad we are finally in our 'final' home (Lord willing!).
  9. Don't forget that Sonlight has a very generous return policy. So if you get it, start to use it, and end up not liking it, you can return it for a full refund. There are time limits on the returns so you will want to check the website.
  10. We started with Sonlight, shifted for a few years, then back to Sonlight, then to MFW. : ) I wish we would have stuck with Sonlight up until we started MFW in the higher grades. It kept me on track, learning tons, having fun, and reading so many good books. Also, I wish I would have chosen (and stuck with!!) Math-U-See.
  11. I just went to Mardel's site and they are advertising a homeschool sale for May 14-19. Some things will be 40% off.
  12. It took me 3 or 4 days to notice an improvement in my gut. It looked like I shrunk...and I didn't even realize I was bloated. : ) I did have terrible cravings around day 10 and again around week 3 or 4. It only lasted a short time...a few hours. Now I am 7 weeks in, am sleeping better, have more energy, and feel better physically. The trick for me is to be sure to have plenty of gf snacks to grab if I get the munchies. That way I am not tempted to grab something I shouldn't.
  13. Yep. Last week I found the exact history set I was looking for and it was missing a few items. By the time I added in the cost of the missing items, I would have only saved $5. No thanks, I will buy it new in that case. : )
  14. Wow! Where does it all go? lol! My ds 8 eats as much as my dh (sometimes more). I wonder HOW his body can even use all the calories!! And occasionally I will tell him enough and he must wait until breakfast. : ) ...ahh to have the metabolism of a young person...
  15. We had our first ever meat truck visit in the fall.
  16. When we were in a high cost of living area, we easily spent $1000-$1200 (all household/food items) a month at the grocery, and that was a few years ago! That was for two adults, a 9 y.o. girl who ate like a bird, a 5 year old boy, and a cat. Now, we spend $600 maximum (all household/food items). That is for two adults, a teen girl, a bottomless pit 8 year old boy, and a dog. We are in a lower cost of living area now and are able to get a significant amount of items at Costco. A much smaller shopping trip is made to another store for odds and ends. We eat pretty typically...and I cook breakfast and dinner from scratch (dairy and wheat free). Dd is allergic to dairy and I don't eat wheat. It would be very, very easy to spend more. I would love to buy different cheeses (mmm...muenster...) but rarely do. We do have meat in the freezer from our elk hunt. I only buy 10 pounds of chicken per month, and 5 pounds of burger for tacos etc...because we don't like elk meat tacos. lol! $30 a month is spent on rice cheese, rice milk, and coconut milk for dd. I don't buy replacement items like gluten free breads...I just do without. On the USDA chart we are$26 below the lowest $ amount for a family of our size and ages. But I don't see that lasting long. Once the elk is gone, we will be back to purchasing ground beef until the next hunting season. In the last couple of days, I have researched couponing. We will see...I don't have a ton of time to coupon, but every bit helps I guess.
  17. My son has had molluscum. A drop of straight tea-tree oil on it with a Q-tip, then covered with a bandaid, would get rid of them overnight. But be careful to keep the oil bottle out of reach. It can be toxic if ingested.
  18. yeah I am about done buying on ebay too. The last two auctions I won ended in disaster with items not being even close to how to they were described. One was not worth sending back and went in the trash. The other I returned for a refund, only to have the seller give me bad comments on feedback even though I used their return policy that they allowed.
  19. ((hugs)) I understand your frustration. It has taken me awhile to get my family to understand just how badly clutter bothers me and distracts me. And how disrespectful it is to expect others to clean up THEIR fun and mess! My ds is still a work in progress, but is coming along. I affectionately call him my little slug because he leaves a trail of stuff whereever he goes. lol! I don't know if you are looking for suggestions...but here is one. Just ignore the following if it isn't what you were looking for. Get a stack of trashbags. Give everyone a 15 minute cleanup warning. After 15 minutes exactly, start shoving stuff in trashbags. They either have to earn it back by doing extra chores, or it gets thrown away. I actually *have thrown out bags of stuff before. I only had to do it once. : ) No schedule. No chores by particular people. Just trashbags and a mom on a mission. It is very effective.
  20. Putting things in black trashbags in a safe storage location (shop/garage) is a big help. In six months, pull out the bags, look in them, realize you don't need the stuff, and get rid of it. : ) ...easier said than done, right? lol! This trick works for me when I have things I don't need or even really want, but can't let go of. It is like a trick on myself...I put bunches of stuff in bags or totes, all the while telling myself they will be in the shop until I need them again. So it isn't like I am getting rid of them, kwim? And when a period of time has gone by, it is RARE that I will even remember what I put in there to begin with. So it is much, much easier to get rid of. ((hugs))
  21. Amino acid imbalance can cause ADD symptoms to be worse, as can consuming too many simple carbs. You would have to google the amino acids/ADD link...it has been a few years since I have studied up on it.
  22. Both my kids were vaccinated as toddlers and so they had their Dtap. We do not plan on getting them the tetanus booster, and the only potential vaccines in the future would be for meningitis. From what I have read, the risk of tetanus is greatest with puncture wounds that don't bleed. So I lecture my children to make injuries bleed...the blood is a natural cleansing agent and pushes out bacteria and debris. They get scraped up on fencing wire etc...all the time. We don't walk around barefoot. : ) There are too many thorns and such around here. I am almost always opposed to vaccines. Even so, if my dd was doing what your dd was doing, I would have her get the tetanus shot.
  23. Buy a package of regular ground beef from the store. Then buy a package of grass-fed. Open them both and break open the blocks of beef, smelling each. The difference in smell should be enough to convince him. : )
  24. Feel the outside of all the pipes and tubes...what is wet? ...I will assume it is the dishwasher drain tube for now... : ) Check the fitting where the dishwasher drain tube connects into the sink drain. It may be loose. But if you remove it for any reason, have a bowl ready...usually the drain tube holds a bit of water where it loops. Also, check to see if the water is running down the outside of the tube. There might be a small hole in the tube somewhere, which could most likely be fixed with a bit of quick drying, waterproof sealant. Replacing the entire drain tube would be a pain...so check those things first. If all is well with the drain tube, it could be that the rubber rings between the sink and sink drain need replaced. That is a common cause for leaks. It is an easy fix with two people...you will need a great big wrench and someone with strong arms... : )
