  1. Is there a neuropsychologist available in your area? That might be a good starting place. (Hugs)
  2. Mary in VA- hugs. And the cost is definitely worth it for you. Hope you have a great time and wonderful memories are made.
  3. If you’re going to live there for three years before you sell it, lvt or another carpet alternative might look newer longer. If you put in carpet now, it might have some stains or show wear in three years.
  4. Oh the carry on bag is great! Other airlines only allow a personal item with basic economy. My last American flight had a lot of people mad because they couldn’t bring something for the overhead and a personal item.
  5. If you’re looking for a solution just for traveling, I’d go with a Road ID bracelet.
  6. Delta basic economy also means nothing in the overhead compartment. You can bring something that fits under the seat or you can pay to check something. So for instance, you can’t bring your purse and a backpack. ‘My experience has been that when you board a person will switch seats with you if you ask nicely and it’s a comparable seat. So if your 11 year old has a middle seat don’t ask someone w a window seat to switch. Usually the flight attendant will help you if needed. Check in online as soon as you can- 24 hours before the flight- and try to get seats close together even if they aren’t on the same row. It makes it easier for you to get up and check on her during the flight.
  7. We were able to tighten our belt and cut some things but you can only do that for so long and then car maintenance and house repairs piled up and we realized things needed to change. I went back to work part time and got things caught up, and got ahead. Then when dh’s salary improved/we were done paying for college I quit. My line in the sand is when dh starts to worry about finances. I didn’t want him to add financial stress to his already stressful job.
  8. Dh went in for a stent and ended up with six of them. Went home the next day and recovery was quick. Stent procedures that go smoothly are no big deal and they rarely seem to go wrong. Honestly it sounds like you will be criticized no matter what you do. In this situation I’d stay home. I have decided that if I can avoid drama I will. This sounds like certain drama. I’m sorry. she’s your mom and it stinks that those living w her are not nice. Mean people suck.
  9. I have a gallon of varathane for floors that my floor guy used to refinish our foyer floor. I’ve used it on several items since then and love the way it holds up! I’ve redone old oak thresholds and they have held up beautifully. We were just talking about using it for our kitchen table so this thread is timely.
  10. Can’t offer pants advice but congrats on the weight loss!!
  11. $20 is more than I would tip, but I live where $10 and a cold soda is the standard for workers like that. Every contractor around here who mentions cash payment will give a little bit of a discount if we pay cash. It’s worth asking about.
  12. I don’t think strength training is needed- just getting used to the bending and stretching needed to do your job. The more you do it, the easier it’ll get, though it is painful in the meantime. Two years ago I needed to paint outside windows, which required scraping off old paint, sanding, and painting. Almost all of that was above eye level. I was riding my bike 10-30 miles a day and walking 2 miles w/dh in the evenings. But that window work kicked my butt for weeks. So even though I was pretty active, doing a new repetitive motion for hours a day was difficult. It took four Motrin to ease my pain and biofreeze helped also. I hope you adjust soon. Hang in there! It’ll get better.
  13. Did the chiropractor say what is causing the pain? I agree if it’s muscular it’ll get better. Can you take Motrin and/or apply some bio freeze to the sore areas every day after work? If the Motrin helps you might try taking it two hours into your shift. I’d expect it to take at least 4-6 weeks, especially since you weren’t previously active other than your treadmill walking. Ds is in his 20’s and it took him a month to get adjusted to a new physical job so I’d expect longer for someone older and not used to that much physical work.
  14. Our mortgage payment is about 600. Our property taxes add $300 more. Our city has recently decided they need more money so instead of adding it to property taxes they have added a fee to our monthly water bill for city infrastructure improvement- $32 a month. That is a lot of money to retired and low income people.
  15. With your added info, I’d be seriously considering it for sure!
  16. The pool would be my biggest issue. With young kids would you want a pool? It’s an expense and a safety concern. And it depends on how much of a stretch it would be financially.
  17. Savor. I break or cut a piece of dark dove into six little pieces. I don’t enjoy a giant piece of chocolate in my mouth. Side note: I dislike truffles because they are too big, and if you bite it and it has a gooey center, the piece you aren’t eating starts oozing. Also, the truffle shell usually crumbles when I bite it, leaving tiny shards of dark chocolate in my hand.
  18. When we moved here years ago dh got a vanity plate and didn’t talk to me about his choice. We came from Georgia, and he put GABOY (Georgia boy) but everyone thought it said gay boy. Years he had that plate, and for years his best friend and rental property business partner was clearly gay. The guy would introduce himself and say ‘this is my partner Steven’ and of course nobody thought business partner. Most of their coworkers speculated that I either didn’t know dh was gay or was in denial. ‘Oldest daughter Kimberly is a chemist, and her plate says Kimist. Hope you find something fun- I love seeing so many vanity plates here in IL.
  19. We kept some of the favorites for each kid to pass down to their own kids, though not a lot. The magazines we tossed. We sold some sets on eBay and at yard sales. The big bins of mixed blocks went to our grandkids and to some other families who had little kids. ETA: I took pics of the built models ds had on display and made a Shutterfly book of them.
  20. Dh and I have talked to the kids about what they want. We’re downsizing and I don’t want to get rid of something the kids really want. My sister and brother are fighting over an old shoe that my dad picked up on the ocean floor while skin diving in Mexico in 1954. Who knew they would be that attached to a curled up shoe? As for the rest, maybe they need to be encouraged that even though they are slowing down that it’s good to keep enjoying life as long as possible. Or maybe they just need to complain that they’re getting old. If fil or dad says that kind of thing to me I usually ask if they’ve been feeling ok lately. Usually it opens the door for them to tell me what’s going on...dad is having trouble balancing his checkbook or fil is feeling lonely without mil. ‘Many times people that age have already lived past the age their own parents passed away so even though their health is good they are starting to feel their mortality. It’s ok to talk about it, I think.
  21. King Arthur Flour cookbooks work well for me. we rarely eat sandwiches so I don’t make that kind of bread but focaccia or a nice French loaf for dinner is a big treat in our house. I’ve only weighed ingredients, never used measuring cups for breads. Tare feature and one that does both ounces and grams are usually pretty standard on kitchen scales. Challah makes fabulous French toast and it’s a once or twice a year treat but oh so good!!
  22. When we’ve written leases that started or ended without a full month, the lease indicated the prorated amount. So we’d say the monthly rent is due on the first and is $300 but the last month is prorated for 8 days and will cost $80 and is due on the first. Without that, your daughter might have a difficult time paying less than a full month’s rent. the full month’s rent is due so either your dd pays it or the roomies have to pay extra to cover the days your dd isn’t there. i see you point, but it’s something that probably should have been spelled out because the parties clearly didn;t understand what each other intended. Sorry.
  23. What does your local building code require? Ours talks about spacing not wider than 4 inches (and our inspector carries a ball to test that) but that’s for vertical balusters. What does code say about the kind you have?
