  1. Halcyon, Thanks for this thread and the original. I've been thinking about how to get rid of the always rushed feeling we have. My expectations of what we can get done are too high which leads to kids that never feel they have accomplished enough. Thinking back on our past school years, I realized that having a scheduled amount of time for each subject has worked best for us. So, I've sat down with my kids and worked out a schedule for our days. And I've changed my daily lesson plans to checklists. We will work on history for five hours a week--what gets done during those five hours is what gets done. Next week we will pick up where we left off. And if a friend calls and wants to meet at the park, we can do that and then simply pick up with our schedule when we get back. No trying to cram what we missed into the rest of the week. There is always tomorrow. Anyway that has been my thinking this week. We will start on Monday---and I will work on relaxing as I already know that we have three different appts that will affect our schedule! :tongue_smilie:
  2. I got an email yesterday. We turned in the first assignment and got back the corrections already. I just needed a bit more patience!
  3. I have a little watermelon starting on a watermelon plant. The plant sat there all summer with three leaves. Now it's vined out and decided to make a watermelon!
  4. I go out to lunch every week or every other week or so. So that is what I spend my money on. ETA: I now know after reading other's answers I realize I should include what I spend on books! Who know that was an optional expense?!! ;) I do spend about another 20-30 dollars a month on books for my NOOK.
  5. We have 6 people in a 1000 square foot home. I've been thinking about this alot lately as it seems we have so much school clutter everywhere. I think I need to get rid of things after every school year. I'm schooling my youngest now, so I don't need to keep things for the next set of kids. Here is a post I did several years ago about our school home. http://missmoe-thesearethedaysofmylife.blogspot.com/2010/08/our-school-home.html
  6. Beautiful couple and family! Loved the pics. And the dress was to die for!
  7. We had a similar problem last year with my ds math class. It was an honors class, and he didn't want to be in the class! He did his best to get dropped from the class by earning Fs on all the quizzes and tests. I would wait to talk to your son and find out what is going on.
  8. Yah! I just loaned my copy out to a dear friend. I'm hoping they like enough to get their own copy!;)
  9. Good to hear. I have checked my spam box. I will give it one more day before sending an email. Thanks.
  10. I wish the website had a better way to sign up for classes. I registered my dds. I've made a payment for our classes. Now what do I do? After registering, I waited to hear from Mr. Owen. Didn't hear back from him. So I went on the website to see if I could figure out what to do next. That is when I found the make a payment section. I've made a payment. The next step is?
  11. I heard the same thing. I received scores for two of my children a month ago , but still waiting on the other two. Not sure what is really going on.
  12. I recently listened to a show on NPR about researching showing that waking up during the night for an hour or two was a natural occurance before electricity was so common. That time of being awake was called twilight sleep and most people used it as a kinda of meditation time. Since I've learned that I've found it much easier to not stress about sleep being missed when I wake up. I lay in bed and just take time to think and rest. Just skipping that stress has helped me a lot.
  13. Valerian worked for me, but I had very disturbing weird dreams while using it.
  14. I would combine the first two time periods. I would spend 6 weeks on the revolution since that time period also includes the development of the federal government. I would also split up Modern history spending at least a week on each decade.
  15. I love it! On Facebook I just recently ran across a youth leader from 25 years ago. I remember her the most from all my other leaders because she was SO real! And my family certainly is real.
  16. We are in the moderate plan and in a high COL area. I am trying to be wiser about what I spend on food. I do have food storage, so the amount I spend includes foods I buy ahead of time for lean times.
  17. Thanks for all the suggestions! Anyone in New Mexico that could comment on the weather in October? And any attractions to suggest? Any other suggestions are also welcome?
  18. Thanks, all! I also told him that as an adverb often would work better with the verb. ;)
  19. I have these. I paid the higher price. :tongue_smilie: They are good quality.
  20. often vs oftentimes? My dh has a question I'm posting for him. Writing copy today for trade show. Question to the English grammar gurus of TWTM regarding Often versus Oftentimes: Often, shelves are mounted as close as 3" from the door, making it difficult to illuminate product at the center of the shelf. or Oftentimes, shelves are mounted as close as 3" from the door, making it difficult to illuminate product at the center of the shelf. Personally, I think Oftentimes sounds better. Looking online, there is much debate over this, as Oftentimes is considered a clunkier word to write and say over just Often. Thoughts?
  21. Never been to either! Off to research more about them.
