  1. Sort of a method, since I don't measure. I use two cans Leseur peas, drained. 2 or 3 chopped boiled eggs, some chopped onion-I used dehydrated today. Sweet relish and dill relish-maybe 2 tablespoons sweet and one of dill. Shredded cheese of your choice. Chopped bacon bits. Stir it all together with Miracle Whip. My mom prefers mayo, but I like miracle whip. I have added chopped water chestnuts and pimento and that's good too. Serve chilled. It's a tradition in my family.
  2. English pea salad is made. Cornbread is in the oven. And I am unmotivated. Argh
  3. Salmon with fennel sounds amazing-care to share the recipe when you have time?
  4. Cook/prepare food for tomorrow's feast: dressing english pea salad gravy carrot cake brownies pecan pie Cleaning: sweep and mop floors laundry Probably pick up burgers for dinner. Son is coming in, dh is working.
  5. Our Thanksgiving would not be complete without the gravy. This is how you make it: One can cream of chicken soup One cup chicken broth One cup uncooked dressing. Heat until bubbly. May add extra chopped boiled eggs. You're welcome😁
  6. I see you found pies-but for future reference, I'm pretty sure Wal-Mart and Target have them. Also Fiesta if you live near one of those.
  7. You can't go wrong with Edwards pecan pie!!
  8. Pic up cough suppressant prescription Work at school Cook dinner Anything else I get done will be a plus. The school I'm teaching at this year is requiring tons of extra work time from me.
  9. I'm making the dressing and gravy for 7 people at our gathering. Mil likes hers without eggs, so she gets a separate pan, and I get mother in law points. Also will make carrot cake and brownies. Mil I think will make sweet potatoes and greens and an aunt will bring homemade crescent rolls and fruit salad. Cranberry sauce will be jellied from a can. I made homemade a couple years ago, and it's not appreciated. I may do it anyway though.
  10. Oh yes, thought of something else. I have four books called Christmas in my Heart, I think. They are a collection of old Christmas stories. I always try to read some in one of them.
  11. I totally get it-I'm the one going around saying "Didn't we just do this?" I do find that listening to Christmas music and decorating the house helps me be less of a Scrooge. My family has a low key Christmas and that's fine with me. My parents and sisters stopped exchanging gifts many years ago, because all we were doing was trading money back and forth. Now we just enjoy being together.
  12. This is a recipe my family has been making for more than 50 years. I've adapted the original to update it. It's called Enchiladas, but doesn't resemble enchiladas in any way. 1 1/2 lbs ground beef cooked and drained. Add 3 cans undrained ranch style beans and a can of enchilada sauce. Heat until all ingredients are hot through. On a plate, stack the following: fritos, meat mixture, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, corn, sour cream, and olives. My parents still eat this but without the corn, sour cream, and olives. Original recipe had us frying up corn tortillas. Mom also used fried flour toritillas. I prefer the fritos because it makes it so easy.
  13. I've spent most of the day alternating between cleaning the floors, laundry, and relaxing. Dinner will be bacon, eggs, grits, and toast. I still need to clean the bathrooms, dust, chop vegetables, chop fruit, empty the shredder, have some devotional time, water a plant, and probably some other things I am forgetting. I've enjoyed this day off though. Dh is at work and I left school yesterday feeling more caught up than I have since the school year started.
  14. To clarify, I'm talking about a machine that would replace my broom and mop. Thanks though-that's good to know.
  15. If I had a family member that wanted to give me favorite recipes, I would love handwritten ones. If you live near a craft or kitchen store that sells nice blank books, that might be a good idea.
  16. For the first time in my adult life, I have no carpet. We bought a used double wide to be closer to in-laws and my husband's job. I have vinyl plank flooring in all the rooms except one, and that one is wood of some sort-but not the new stuff. I've been sweeping and mopping the old fashioned way for over 4 months now, but I'm ready to upgrade to something else. What do i want to clean my floors with?
  17. I am looking to buy a spiralizer for my sister's birthday. I want it to be good quality as far as materials and suction cups. What should I get?
  18. I had to go through training when the supermarket I worked for started selling beer and wine. I wasn't even serving it. This was in Texas.
  19. Mine live in the trunk of the car. They are all freebies, some cloth others plastic. I need to start using them more. We actually use some disposable bags for dh's work clothes, but it's very easy to get too many of those.
  20. Yes, terribly hot here. We are having the duct work replaced in our central unit as the old one was filled with holes. No idea how they got there-we just bought this place right before it got hot. We have a small window unit that is not keeping the place cool except early in the morning. I've been spending some days at the school.
  21. I got my mom one for Christmas during the heyday. She still has it and it still works. The great grandkids think it's awesome. Hers has a piece of gold satin modesty fabric covering the goddess. 🤣
  22. People (including adults) who used to say you shouldn't peel vegetables because all the vitamins are right under the skin. To be clear, I don't normally peel most vegetables, but this was something I heard growing up.
  23. First of all, take a deep breath. Your change of address with the post office can be done online (and you will get some coupons from Lowes, Bed bath beyond, etc), and your mail will be forwarded to you. You can take care of the change of address with the bills as they come in. The forwarding lasts a year for most of your mail. Catalogs will not be forwarded. I just moved a month and a half ago. Best of luck to you!!
  24. There's no better advice anywhere, in my opinion, than the Hive. So glad to be a part of this community. You all have helped me tremendously.
  25. So what is up with the Farmhouse style? Is it the distressed painting technique, cutesy signs? I love some of the stuff I see on videos, but when I'm shopping and see something, I don't automatically think "farmhouse" unless it's distressed or a sign.
