  1. Yesterday, we didn't get in the ballpark. We ate at my mom's and she provided only small side salads and some green beans, everything else was protein or simple carbs. I didn't partake of much of the carbs, but I also felt quite full and didn't feel like eating supper, so I didn't cook or eat another meal. So it was a bit of a fail. That said, as a percentage of what I did eat for the day, vegetables was quite high. It just wasn't an eat much kind of day.
  2. In Michigan, it is just 3 years. They don't force the owner to try to sell the property. They simple seize it, and it gets auctioned. It isn't reported to credit agencies. If this is the same in WV, I would be tempted as OP to advise everyone who does not want their parcels to just stop paying the taxes and let it go.
  3. From what I have read, a tax lien for failure to pay property tax is not reported to credit agencies. I would check that out specifically for WV, but maybe that really is an option, and you can just let the township auction it off when you stop paying. If they can't auction it, it appears that ownership would transfer to the state.
  4. How long ago was the inheritance? If it is relatively recent and the deed has not yet been transferred, I think you can refuse the inheritance. If memory serves, you can donate the land to the state department of natural resources and it becomes state property. Some townships will also take it. You could advertise it for free and use a quit claim deed to for fast transfer of ownership.
  5. And being comfortable. If you wear something that is a long waisted silhouette, and you are short waisted, it has bunches of fabric clumping up and comes up under the arms. Sometimes it is a pain too zip. Some patterns are not made to enlarge at the hips or if a size 8 and needs to be taken in, major adjustments which may or may not be in the wheelhouse of whomever is sewing in order to put a size 6 skirt on a size 8 bodice or vice versa. There is also a point between a 6 and 8 and again at 14 and 16 where pattern manufacturers assume the increase in hip size means a large increase in bust size as well. This is tricky, and sometimes the easiest dress to assemble at that size range given the crappy patterns now available is an empire waist gown because the silhouette is the easiest to alter when major changes have to be made. My mother is a genius at this stuff. I am not so talented. In the past when I made evening wear for performances, I made beautiful skirts, and then made tops/coats so I could make each piece off a different pattern and not have to connect them. By the way OP, the fabric is very pretty. How many metres and what width? That alone can dictate what can and cannot be done with it. Ballroom full skirt isn't going to happen if you don't have 4-5 metres at least 1.5 metres ish wide.

There are also limits on how much any pattern can be altered, some of them not much at all as Simplicity, McCalls, Butterick, and Vogue are NOT the high quality, accurate sewing patterns that they used to be. So knowing what kind of silhouette is needed really helpful s narrow down what can and cannot be done with the sewing patterns available.

  8. Friday: Lunch - Clementine orange, leftover roast veggies, salad (about 155 grams of veg) 74 g for the orange, 150 g for the roast veggies Supper - Split pea soup. I made it with one huge sweet onion that I caramelized with garlic, ran through the blender with chicken broth, 2 cups of dry split peas, 3 cups of diced carrots, smoked ham hock, slow cooked with a lot of herbs. We had some hummus and red pepper sticks as a side dish. Very delicious and we ate until we were stuffed. The soup had 1000 grams of veg, and we ate 2/3 of it so roughly 300-350 grams each. 200 g of hummus and red pepper. Total: almost 900 g. I felt that: definitely a little discomfort. But it tasted so wonderful! Saturday: Lunch - decided to eat light. Leftover split pea, one cup 150g estimated, and some hummus with pretzels instead of veg - 90g. Supper scrambled eggs with cubed potatoes, red pepper, spinach, mushrooms. Maybe only 150 g of veg. Tummy feels better this morning. I seem to be able to hit 800g about 3 at the very most 4 times a week. But doing it everyday seems to cause some distress. So I think the key for me is to make sure it is 7 servings of veg/fruit, but not push the boundary all the time.
  9. I am reading a Nordic Tales book for children one chapter every night on Zoom for my grandsons. It is a lovely book, and a nice way for us to share time since we won't be seeing them for the holidays. I am also reading "The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish way of living well." Since candlelight is a big part of how they create this feeling of well being, I have 8 LED candles burning in the windows, 2 in the pass through, and will be putting out 4 more today so that our great room/family room will be lit in the evenings almost exclusively by the 12 candles and the Christmas tree lights. The other light which will be on our dining table will be our glass oil lamp with its white, opaque shade...it gives off a lot of light. We are going to try to keep all of the electric light off tonight and see what we think.

  12. We took her last Sunday afternoon to a matinee. Now sadly, she would not let me help her try on the evening gown prior to the day. I was worried it has been decades. It is one of those very classic kind of evening gowns. Nothing that goes out of style. So on the day, she went to put it on and it was tight around the waist and 3 inches too long. Mostly it is just a matter of gravity not being kind to elderly people, and so proportions change even if the number on the scale doesn't, and she has had spinal degeneration so she has actually shrunk in height. Had she let me do a fitting the week before, I could have altered it. There was plenty of room in the seams, fabric to work with, to get the job done. So that was sad. But the good news was I found a lovely pendleton wool skirt, mid calf, in the back of her closet that fit well, and a cashmere twin set to go with. She has nice jewelry so we decked her out, and she donned the same red, wool opera cloak that she had when she played in the orchestra at University of Iowa back in the 50's. She had the time of her life. I thought she was going to squeal for the Russian dance which is her favorite Nutcracker piece. We took a very circuitous route home, way out of the way for us, to drive through Frankenmuth, Mi - Little Bavaria - as it is called, and a town so lit up with Christmas lights that it is probably single handedly responsible for 1 degree of global warming!!!   15. Wow! This is lunacy. Wash your hands of it. I think nephew needs to as well. Everyone who "pinch hits" when the aide is not there needs to drop out. Maybe that will force sil and dil to finally concede that she needs a facility/staff.
  16. Wednesday: We had roasted carrots, green beans, and stuffed peppers, baked potatoes, and salads along with our homemade mac n cheese at supper, and tomato soup at lunch. I am fairly certain it came to 7-8 servings of veg, and probably very close to 800g if not a little over. I really need to get another kitchen scale, but it hasn't been a priority this month. I am teaching a chemistry and biology course next semester to a bunch of private school and home school students, and so by the time the semester begins the last week of January, I should have another. Thursday - Lunch was small salads (2 cups of greens and veg) and a Clementine orange. Veg at supper was roasted carrots, leeks, potatoes, and green beans. I easily had 4 servings. So 7 fruit/veg, but probably not 800 grams with the salad being on the smaller side, and the orange being small.
  17. I hope this will be studied more. My sister has an immune disorder, and her general physician insists that she sits outside with as much skin exposed as she can stand for 30 minutes a day. It is chilly right now on the Mediterranean, but she still does it for as long as she can stand. She also walks as much as possible instead of taking the car so that she exposed to sunlight that much more. She feels it has made big difference. I have also noted that in my determination to spend more time outdoors despite being a naturally more inside kind of person, I see so many positives physically. I would love to see a lot more study of sunlight and immune function.

  20. One thing that was absolutely wonderful for me was a moisture/PH meter. So helpful. You can pick them up for $20, and then add a pretty gardening journal to it.
  21. I am in the midst of making simple scarves for all the adult kids, including the honorary adult ones we have accumulated. These are just long, flannel scarves, nothing special, that go in their stockings. I made matching one for each set of couples. In this photo, book themed for C and our daughter in law. And the freshly cut flannel for P who wanted something that represented all the critters he took care of as a farmhand in his teen years. Also featured is the fabric I am just about to cut for camping boy, A. This afternoon I need to cut the magic/fantasy themed purple flannel for R and M, and R and A. Those two couples have some of the same passion, DnD, Harry Potter, Magic. Then the green snowflake flannel for C and E, followed by dog print fabric for A and T. When I get that done, I still have a simple, lap quilt to finish.
  22. Yesterday: Blackbeans and salsa on scrambled eggs. It was probably 1 full cup of beans, and 1/3 cup salsa. I looked it up and 1/3 cup is a full serving of veg. - 2 servings. Lunch - 2 cups broccoli soup, probably a cup worth of broccoli. - 1 serving Supper - Spaghetti made from my home canned tomatoes. 1.5 cups (sauce had one whole sweet onion in it as well), and 1 cup roast brussel sprouts, 1 cup roast green beans. Small side salad. Definitely 7 servings of veg.
  23. Not really. I just throw it together. If I had to approximate a guess, I would say: 1 large sweet onion peeled, and finely diced. 1 package of baby portabella mushrooms (crimini) sliced and saute` with a large, finely diced celery stalk, add some shredded fresh spinach to wilt, three or four minced garlic cloves, 1/3 cup asiago, and basil. Salt to taste, mix with 1-1.5 cups cooked wild or brown rice. Brown the outsides of and bottoms of hollowed out peppers under the broiler, just lightly. Then fill the peppers and put back under the broiler to toast well. I don't use recipes much anymore. LOL, I think I watched too much Beat Bobby Flay. Now I kind of make it up as I go, tasting along the way.
