  1. It's really been wonderful for my accelerated kid. That being said, I can see why you have reservations including it. It is open and go, but not in the way most curriculum is. I also agree with the writing complaints. I'm not any help! :)
  2. Prefacing something harsh by admitting it's harsh doesn't really help. It's still harsh and hurtful when she specifically asked people to be kind.
  3. Thanks for the suggestions! I was just looking atGalore Park, I like the idea of GSWS first.
  4. Oops! Sorry, 8.5, asynchronous, but I'd say we need something middle school level, language is his strongest subject. Thank you for that post! I love the idea of using the Mexican curriculum, that's great. Perhaps we can start with children's books in Spanish once he learns som vocab.
  5. DS wants to start Spanish. I have no idea where to begin! I'm not opposed to getting a tutor, but I'd like to try to DIY if possible at least for the first year. I took a ton of French in HS and college, but do not speak Spanish. My husband does but he's not available to teach on a consistent basis. I'm sure I could get DS through beginning Spanish, but we'll prob go through it quickly. Any tips or recommendations? *i had hernia surgery this morning, so I'm feeling a bit Studio 54 if you know what I mean. My apologies if I stop making sense. 😂
  6. It's a great podcast! I love the one with the author of The Reading Promise.
  7. I just wanted to chime in that I've been feeling like this since January. I've only been homeschooling one young child for 3 years, so I don't know what my problem is! Anyways, I've been reading a lot about Project Based Homeschooling and unschooling. It really resonates with me, and I've decided to give it a year. We are also going to be looking at schools, just to see what's out there, and what the financial aid packages look like at the pricey private schools. ;) I think for me, I need to be reminded that this is the best option, or maybe it's not and I'll be off the hook! My 5 year olds have one year of Montessori left and I'm wavering on HSing them too. So I get it, I can commiserate, and I'm here to chat if you need it!
  8. I'd say I'm in workout clothes or pajamas most of the time. I am currently revamping my wardrobe because I haven't been properly shopping for the past 5 years. I have bought random pieces, but I need to shop for outfits.
  9. I can't really help with this, Miquon was a flop for us, but I thought I'd bump it for you.
  10. I think we are doing ecology & biology in a project-based fashion. sort of unschooling it if you will. I've yet to find a curriculum that I feel is even worth a shot.
  11. The point I was trying to make was that I find the outrage a little suspect because animals are treated horribly and killed in inhumane fashion every second of the day, but we are piling on this particular man, sharing his business address, leaving bad reviews, etc etc. Jimmy Kimmel was crying over this lion. Why no tears for the millions of baby male chicks sent through grinders? Or the sick pigs thrown onto concrete as a means to an end? I'm not saying that people shouldn't be upset about it, but why this lion? Because it was famous? Because it's endangered? (Would we have an adequate chicken, pig and cow population if we weren't raising them for consumption?) Again, I'm not an animal rights activist. I don't even consider myself an animal lover, I don't have pets, and I'm not a member of PETA. The only reason I know about these things is because of my interest in vegan and vegetarian food, and concern about our food supply in general. It's definitely sad, I'm not defending this dentist. I don't like hunting as a sport or as a means to providing food, because I don't feel it's necessary. The response to this has been interesting to watch, and just makes me question the strong emotions that are being communicated. ETA: the fact that people are comparing it to fetal rights is really suspect. We aren't talking about the same thing at all. A ball of cells that couldn't survive on it's own vs a fully formed being outside of a womb is not a fair comparison in my opinion.
  12. This story has me fascinated because of the internet's response. There's a big disconnect from most of us about the meat we eat. We have this vision of happy cows and chickens living full lives and then being "humanely" killed. Even if you understand that isn't the case in 99% of the meat we eat, you probably aren't thinking about it right before you take a bite out of a burger. I think it was wrong how the dentist killed the lion, but why are we ok with lots of other atrocious treating and killing of animals? (I speak of "we" as Americans. I personally am a vegan for environmental and health reasons. The animal welfare is third on my list of reasons, so I'm not an animal rights activist. Just finding this level of outrage interesting.)
  13. I have already re read it. I'm keeping it!
  14. Hope your cat is on the mend, and she's able to attend the student event!
  15. I HATE when people say that. The other day at the dr, the nurse said "I never would have guessed you weigh that much." I said it was all muscle. 😂
  16. I am a minimalist wanna be (we have a social group!) and I really loved this book. Our drawers have been kon mari'ed for a couple of months, I could never go back! I'm on to sentimental stuff, it's really time consuming and stressful for me. I'm trying to figure out what my mental block is there. Anyways, I love Marie Kondo. :)
  17. I only check mine every few days, it's not like you need an internet addiction to have a FB account. :) (although you'll quickly be able to tell who does! Haha)
  18. The eczema can very well not be from what you are eating, but blood in the stool is indicative of food allergy in infants. Combined with the eczema, I'd get to an allergist. My son has had food allergies since 6 weeks old, I nursed him to almost 2 on restricted diet, I'm happy to answer any other questions you have. Also, check out kidswithfoodallergies.org, there is a thread for BF'ing moms in the babies forum.
  19. I don't know what the guidelines are, but I'll tell you my story, I have really heavy periods that last for 8 days. My heaviest days I wear a tampon and pad and change it frequently. Mine made me anemic. I was recently diagnosed with polyps that I am having removed next month, that we are optimistic caused the bleeding, and will solve my problem.
  20. I found these, http://www.amazon.com/Fred-Friends-TACO-TRUCK-Holder/dp/B00JDRDIO6
