  1. Definitely Beast! We were excited about LoF too, but not even CLOSE to as excited as we were about Beast releasing...I will be stalking my postwoman for the next couple days (even though I was one of the first 20 to order, I am all the way across the US, lol, so my books are still showing they are in San Diego at the moment...hoping they arrive in Greensboro tonight though...)
  2. Did you order from the AoPS website or from Beast? The only email I received was the confirmation email that went through almost immediately after placing the order from the Beast website. It just had my order information and said: Items being shipped via Priority Mail. Your order should arrive in 3 to 7 days.
  3. Nope, but I also wasn't sure if they planned on sending any. I am crossing my fingers that the 3-7 day arrival rings true...(i.e. hoping they are here before Friday, lol)
  4. :iagree: I also have a 1st grader (well, technically K according to PS) who is doing 3rd grade math, so I am hoping that this will be challenging for him to take a little more time. He has been SPEEDING through Singapore and while I am happy that he is getting math so easily, in many ways I wish he would slow down a bit! I had planned to hold off on BA until July, but I am sure we will start right away. It's still too early to say (for certain) that BA will completely replace Singapore for us, so for now, he will still do Singapore 3A along with BA.
  5. DS did great with the pretest...he needed a little help in understanding what exactly they wanted, but otherwise I thought it was looking harder than it actually was. Once we sat down with it, it made much more sense :D DS has spent time working on Odd/Even numbers, however, so for kids that haven't worked on them at ALL, those problems might be a little harder...
  6. :iagree: I am thinking that it may have a place in grade 2 vs the grade 3 curriculum. They may touch on it a bit through units/measure like boscopup said though!
  7. My email confirmation said BA000017 or something like that...
  8. I fully expect it to be a full curriculum for us. We will still do Singapore 3A along side it, but that's mostly b/c we already HAVE the 3A book from Singapore. It's too early to tell if we will abandon Singapore altogether once we get going with Beast.
  9. I want to know who #1 is :D and if it was someone here ;) We were #17 :P
  10. :iagree: Although, BA is divided into 4 per year, not 2 like Singapore. So there is 3A, 3B, 3C and 3D for BA. Whereas Singapore would just be 3A & 3B. But, if you are someone who has supplemented Singapore with CWP and IP and/or purchased the HIG's as well, the price is VERY comparable overall to Singapore. Singapore 3A Text - $16 Singapore 3A Wkbk - $12 Singapore 3A HIG - $19 CWP3 - $10 IP3 - $14 Singapore 3B Text - $16 Singapore 3B Wkbk - $12 Singapore 3B HIG - $19 TOTAL - $118 for the year Beast 3A Guide - $15 Beast 3A Practice - $12 Beast 3B Guide - $15 Beast 3B Practice - $12 Beast 3C Guide - $15 Beast 3C Practice - $12 Beast 3D Guide - $15 Beast 3D Practice - $12 TOTAL - $108 for the year Granted, if you skipped the HIG in Singapore, that alone would end up being like $40 in savings...so that would skew things a bit...but overall, still very comparable!
  11. I originally didn't PLAN to start it until July (since I figured it would be so expensive that I would have to save pennies until we started the 'new year'...LOL) but now...I don't think we can avoid starting it as soon as it arrives
  12. What are you hating about it? I need to check out the video since I haven't had a chance to yet. I am still contemplating doing a month trial of it just to test it out, but wonder if I should even do that LOL!
  13. :) bump I am already a HST+ user but I am wondering if the benefits of HST Online will surpass HST+? I think I may do a one month trial of it sometime this week...just wondering if anyone has already bit the bullet and given it a spin yet?
  14. Has anyone checked it out yet? Can't believe there's not a thread yet! The online one looks WAY tempting...but the fee is a bit high for the budget at the moment. I am definitely going to check out a trial of it though and see all the differences... Has anyone taken it for a spin yet?! Thoughts?!
  15. I am not sure of how to setup anything, but we always just go to the mind map and do one of the next activities in the flow chart. It usually 'suggests' about 5 different ones for him to choose from, so he just picks which ones. When you click on one of the mind map choices, it takes you to that specific lesson.
  16. :iagree: We are doing both as well. Really, we are doing too many in some ways, but he likes them, so it doesn't bother him.
  17. Still going really well here too. DS likes that the lessons are short and easy. He's doing all three: WWW, GWG & SWSV and still doesn't complain. I know there has been at least some retention from the lessons since we've done verbal review and he can answer correctly. I will be interested to see how much he remembers when I add in FLL in July ;) Not sure that they programs are for every kid, but they work here, so we will continue them :)
  18. Depends on what you really want to count as extracurricular...we do quite a bit outside of the house though... Co-Op Group every Tuesday & Thursday 4-H every other Wednesday Young Inventors/LEGO Club once a month Art Co-Op once a month and various nature/homeschool/enrichment events at local parks when they work into our schedule.
  19. Thank you for posting!! And thank you for the coupon code too!! Now to figure out what I want to order
  20. Sounds like the convo my DS just had the other day with DH, explaining 6.25  TOO cute!
  21. I am using Classroom Organizer (Book Source) at the moment. It's actually an app for teachers from Android that enables ”checking out” books, but I am able to just scan the books into my ”library” so it's perfect! I can give the books locations and more, so it works fine!
  22. I use Homeschool Tracker Plus. This year, I actually did things a bit backwards b/c I didn't enter everything into a lesson plan first...I just entered it was we did things. I have a cheap little planner from Target $1 spot that I pre-planned things out in. For the upcoming year, I actually have entered everything into the lesson plan feature and can just click "done" as we complete things. Should be MUCH easier for keeping up with things :)
  23. This! We do still use it here and there, and I do love it...but I found that it still took a LOT of prep work for me and it would just get set aside. It's a good program, but it does take effort IMO to make it really worthwhile. The weeks that I spent more time prepping were the weeks that we enjoyed it the most. I just couldn't keep up that momentum, TBH. Sad too, b/c I really do love it!
