  2. it seems *really* random...of my groups that have changed over and have the feature... Secret Group A - shows "seen by..." but doesn't show actual names Secret Group B - shows "seen by..." and lets you see the names/times Secret Group C - shows "seen by..." and lets you see the names/times Closed Group A - shows "seen by..." and lets you see the names/times Closed Group B - shows "seen by..." but doesn't show actual names (I am group owner) Closed Group C - shows "seen by..." and lets you see the names/times haven't found any of my groups that are "Open" with this new 'seen by' thing yet, but I will let you know if I see one that's changed over...
  3. My 6.5 year old has been playing this game for a few weeks and LOVES it! I immediately downloaded the paid version b/c of recommendations on another board. I wish I could find more games like it!!
  4. Ohhhhh why oh why did I open this thread?!! This program is so tempting...and here I thought I had science 'set' for the year
  5. This is almost exactly what we do as well. 3-day schedule. Day 1 is the first part of the chapter, discuss review questions, then we complete one or two of the activities in the AB. He might also do a copywork page, etc. Day 2 is the second part of the chapter, followed by review questions, mapwork, etc. Day 3 is our activity day (Fridays) and we get together with another family and do all the activities together!
  6. I used the Sonlight lists as a starting point for my DS. I found most of them at my local library!
  7. Almost finished with 3A, he's got maybe 2-3 practice pages left and then we will move on to 3B. I worried that, if we kept up the brisk pace, 3C wouldn't be released in time for us to start it. It should work out great now that 3C is off to the printers b/c we will be able to get it in-hand in plenty of time since we are just starting 3B any day now!! :D
  8. I was JUST coming to post the same thing :D I just saw it on my news feed on Facebook :D YAY!!
  9. Like the PP's said, the workbook has all the work done for you. I have the text as well since I was able to get it at a convention (and it was cheap!) but it's not nearly as thorough as the workbook is.
  10. Even though we do other co-ops with large groups, a friend and I got together and decided to do a SOTW co-op with just the two of us. We do the readings and such on our own and then get together once a week for the boys to do the activities together and it's SO much fun! It totally helps keep ME accountable for DOING the activities and he has so much more fun learning WITH a friend.
  11. :iagree: I am not even sure that our state requires you to put a 'grade' when we register (will be registering on July 1st). My DS would technically only be entering 1st grade this fall based on the PS cutoff, but he's doing work all over the board...2nd/3rd/4th grade work this coming year, across the curriculum.
  12. We used most of it in one year. We had skipped the US portion b/c I figured DS was too young for it, but it turns out that he taught himself all of the states anyway (thanks Scrambled States of America! LOL). So, we will be doing the US portion this coming year (starting in July). I wish it did stretch over a couple of years though...he really loves the book!! I am on the hunt to find another one that's similar and hopefully just as meaty :P
  13. At our local school store...it's called Stone's Education. We have several 'teacher' stores locally and I am pretty sure they all sell them!
  14. :iagree: This is how we've done it as well. I do have everything planned out, but only b/c HST+ makes it so easy for me. I have the lesson plans created, but only assign on a weekly basis, so I can adjust based on what comes up. We basically just "do the next" thing in all our books, but I am able to keep track MUCH easier by having it in HST+ already...it's a matter of clicking "Done"!
  15. I just googled for a daily assignment sheet and found some cute ones online for free. I do all my planning in HST+ and am not all that fond of the printout it gives. I plan to put the one I printed in a dry erase sleeve and reuse it over and over instead of printing every.single.week (plus, DS loves using dry erase, lol)
  16. I use Goodreads to track DS's books. I am only using it to track books that he uses for free-reading however, b/c that's what I want to look back and 'remember' at future dates. You are able to make 'folders' and such on there, so it's great for organizing books too. I've tried Shelfari and LibraryThing as well, but always come back to Goodreads :P
  17. So far, we've been doing about 3 days of History. Day 1 - I read the first part of the chapter (if there are 2 parts), we do the discussion questions, and I let him choose from the AG pages which one he wants to do that day (depending on what is available for that chapter...map work, coloring page, etc) and we also usually read any corresponding encyclopedia pages. Day 2 - I read the second part of the chapter, we do the discussion questions, narration for both days and then he completes any additional pages in the AG. He will also read any suggested reads that we happened to pick up. Day 3 - On Friday, we get together with another family and complete any of the fun activities like the pyramids, etc.
  18. I plan everything out (the entire year) in the Lesson Plan feature on HST+. I only assign things (at the moment) on a weekly basis and I do all my gathering, link collecting, etc each week as I am assigning things. My goal is to eventually (maybe?) get to a point where I schedule 3-6 weeks out and gather all my extras ahead of time. I also only have ONE DS right now, so that makes a huge difference planning-wise...I am not sure how well it would work doing things weekly if I had more than one since I would have much less down time! ;)
  19. This has been our experience as well. It is a constant worry, obviously, but I have found that he does just fine. His issue is like that above...he is FAR too willing to talk to people and sometimes will NOT stop talking LOL!
  20. This. I use HST+ and input 2 terms and 4 quarters, so each term is also split in half.
