  1. That's where I want to order from, but I can't get that site to load :( GRR...I need to figure out why my computer doesn't like that site!!
  2. Has anyone ordered this from A Brighter Child? I cannot get the other two websites to load for me (having some issues w/ certain webpages) and I am unable to find out if the stickers are separate or not. From the description, it's hard to tell... http://www.abrighterchild.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/22441 but I can't find a separate listing for the stickers?! ETA: I emailed them yesterday, but haven't heard back yet...just wondered if anyone had experience with them or knew if the stickers are included on the other sites...
  3. I would love the option of one of those chairs listed, but it's just not feasible with our budget...I'd end up spending that on curriculum instead  We just use our regular dining room chairs and I have a footstool for him to prop his feet on...He's really tall, so it's all he needs really :)
  4. Oh I am SO excited to see this post!! I have been anxiously awaiting the re-release of the timeline!! I am so thrilled!! Thank you!!
  5. :iagree: Ditto this!! I think it will be a great supplement and we will likely use it when we are studying a specific topic of history.
  6. I have used basic for about a year and finally caved (yesterday) and upgraded to PLUS and I am SO glad that I did. I really love all of the features and options that come with the PLUS version. Like a PP mentioned, if you aren't a "computer-ish" person, it may NOT be the program for you, but if you are savvy and don't mind the computer, it's SO SO SO worth it. I wasn't sure it would be beneficial for me with just one child, but it totally is, and it's even MORE worth it if you have several children. Not to mention that if you plan to re-use lesson plans (say you're using Singapore Math 3A for a 3rd grader and have a 1st grader who will eventually do Singapore Math 3A as well...those lesson plans stay "saved" in your archives, so when the time comes, just a few clicks and you have all your Singapore Math entered in for your second child) I think it's definitely worth it, MORE than worth it, but again, you have to like computers ;)
  7. He's allowed to watch pretty much anything on PBS. We ditched cable, so that's all we actually have anyway, but it's OK b/c that's all he would watch anyway ;) It just depends on what is on and when we are watching...he LOVES Curious George, Word World, Sid the Science Kid and Cyberchase.
  8. I use several different ones, but almost always favor Blogger b/c I can customize it so much! I love my wordpress as well, but don't use it as much as Blogger. You can find TONS of free templates for all types of blogs just by google searching for them. I actually just tried them all til I found the one that I worked best with!
  9. I actually just blogged about this site as well! I found out about it this morning on one of the workbox sites and signed up right away! I am loving it, and like a PP, will likely use it to supplement and glean ideas! I am LOVING the detail they put into the lesson plans and it's a GREAT starting point for newbies looking for something and aren't sure where to start!!
  10. I am so sad :( There is a great montage on YouTube with a bunch of his movies to the Teenage Wasteland song by The Who...it was nice to reminisce...so sad to lose another so young :(
  11. Is this it? http://www.classicalhouseoflearning.com/
  12. I don't know the actual "time" we put in each day, but usually we read at least 3 of his books before bedtime. He is still in picture books, obviously, so we are reading stuff like Where the Wild Things Are, etc. Now that we have started 'back to school', we have an additional 1-2 stories during our 'daily meeting' time when we do the calendar and story. So I guess ours is probably realistically more like 15-20 minutes a day...like I said, I have never really 'timed' it to know for sure...He just kinda started asking for 3 books at bedtime, so we have just always done 3 books, unless he asks for more. ;D
  13. My thoughts exactly  Usually the towels are left until last, which is kinda funny b/c they are the easiest to FOLD, so you would think I would do them first :P :tongue_smilie:
  14. We are doing fairly 'informal' PK4 this year, and we are spending about 30/45 minutes to an hour each day. For Math, I am pretty much just doing simple math games, counting trays, tangrams, etc. My main 'goals' for this year are recognizing smaller numbers (i.e. 1-5) without actually counting them, and counting to 20 (or higher if he wants) well. He does well counting all the way to 10 (actually counting 1:1, and can verbally count to 20, but sometimes has issues at 15) Then, we spend a few minutes working on Handwriting (usually will be 1 or 2 pages in the HWT Get Ready for School book) and then Phonics (Hooked on Phonics and Explode the Code primers...again 1-2 pages tops) After that, we do 'fun' activities like Art, or cutting/pasting, etc. If at any point HE decides he needs a break, or just isn't interested, we just walk away for a while. We have only been 'back at school' for 3 full days and so far we have made it through whatever I had 'planned' that day, but I know there will come a day when he doesn't want to do anything, and that will be OK. I think 30 minutes to an hour is a perfect time frame for a 4 year old. It's just long enough for them to 'train' sitting still, etc, like the PP mentioned and isn't so overwhelming and daunting for them. Honestly, for Math, I would just try to make it fun. Anytime I tried to really "teach" him Math, he's put his blockers on, lol!! Your daughter sounds like she would do well with manipulatives like the Unifix Cubes, etc. My son LOVED when we decided to measure his Thomas Trains...I brought them over to the table and we counted how many Unifix cubes it took to measure each one...I think connecting it with something he actually LIKED made it that much more fun...he didn't even realize he was DOING Math :D Hope this helps a little!!!
  15. Ditto. We are using Explode the Code and LOVE it. We are also using HWT Get Ready for School and he seems to be doing well with it as well. He's been really interested in spelling lately, so I am also looking into All About Spelling to see if it's what he would like!
  16. My DS will be 4 in November and we are starting with the Explode the Code primers right now. He has known his letters, etc for quite a while, so it was a natural progression to move to these...so to answer the question, he will likely start Book 1 when he is 5, since we will work through all 3 primers during this 'school year' and then will move onto the series itself next year. You could always give it a shot with Book 1 and if, as you go along, you realize he's not quite ready, just step back and work on the primers for now. I think he would be fine going straight to it though if he knows the letter sounds already ;)
  17. I, too, chose kindness...Really hard to choose! In SO many ways, they are all very subjective. I think everyone, at some point or another is happy...and as far as smart...I figure smart is too hard to 'define' anyway...there are so many levels of smart and it also changes based on what KIND of smart, etc. And again, successful...well, that's in the eye of the beholder. I consider myself successful, but I am a stay at home mom, not a big bucks lawyer, etc. Kindness for me is the one that was less of a grey area. I think kindness is a true gift of the heart and is the ultimate judgment of character. If you aren't kind...what are you? ya know?
  18. if you could only choose ONE attribute for your child(ren) to have when they are grown, what would it be and why. I will save my answer til others have had a chance to answer :)
  19. We start back on Monday!! We did do some things during the summer, but we will start 'official' schooling again on August 3rd! I debated waiting, but DS has been begging me for school again, so I bit the bullet :D
  20. Thank you for this! I have been looking for something to supplement for my NON creative days LOL!!
