  1. Spelling Plus. The Writing Road to Reading is great too but not workbook.
  2. I like emeals with an occasional week off. The recipes are decent and very easy to prepare (even my 8yo can almost cook some on his own). I sub the shopping list to help it fit how we eat.
  3. That paper is too thin for spiral. We would certainly soon have a mess on our hands!!!
  4. There's a number of missing events from the VP list as well that CC decided to include.
  5. I think 7 or 8 is when they really start to get something out of it. They may not understand all of it but my youngest learned a lot this year and I felt that was the case for the students I tutored as well. Our 6/7 year was ok and more about learning to make it through the class period. 😥 he did memorize and has retained much of it.
  6. Thank you. I just read that in the book after I posted. There's a lot of info to take in.
  7. It's still relevant. Do we need to start a new thread each time?
  8. Ellie, can we start with cursive if we are starting with an older child? I'm still on The Spelling Lesson / handwriting part of the book. I was amazed last night at my second time through when I realized handwriting practice separate from phonogram learning might be the reason that my oldest ds can't get some words from his head to the paper correctly but can spell them orally.
  9. it is a Browser app for Windows Surface. The toggle button doesn't allow me to type at all. I don't believe I can install Chrome on my Surface.
  10. I'm trying it out for reading this summer. The boys are reading other books in addition to EP, but I wanted something a little more formalized for comprehension checks. The English doesn't feel like a full enough course to stand on its own, but I only need it for reading anyway. I really like that it starts with poetry. I never get to it otherwise.
  11. Our community doesn't have a class for 2 year olds. The K4-5 year old class is mostly for children with older siblings. Personally, I think it's better to let them play and explore the world through playtime than to start memory drills. They have many years of school work ahead of them so there is no need to rush. But, yes, it can be done at home and I have heard about the younger siblings picking up on the memory work while their older ones are learning it.
  12. Chrome isn't an option for me unless I'm on my laptop. This is driving me crazy!!!!
  13. I wonder if our manager is taking a firm position on this because we have 3 communities filled to the maximum? If you got permission, just continue on... 😉
  14. It's not on the website as most of the policies aren't. But it was mentioned many times at my training last week and at our practicum. The actual cut-off is Sept. 1, not the first day, sorry about that, I checked my notes. The support manager stated it at training as did the Essentials trainer. Then all of the exception questions came along and it was a clear "no".
  15. The age requirement for Essentials is 9 at the start of the EEL class. And if you drop, you can request a refund. But, my guess would be your director and the tutor will encourage you to wait until the 14/15 school year to enroll or your DD will do 4 years of EEL. If you plan to do Challenge A, expect that they will not enroll a child that is not 12 on the first day of class if they are following CC's guidelines. And my understanding is that they are being firm about these age limits in both Essentials and Challenge programs. I found Essentials to be a great program if the parents are willing to put in the time to work with their child and not expect everything to come from the short period of time the tutor has each week to pass on information to the student. The parent and tutor need to understand how to scale the work and build each year. (sorry, I know that should be a new paragraph, but the editor won't accept my enter key press.)
  16. Chiro and a night guard (it's actually my retainer) help me. I don't need the chiro as much any more as I figured out how to pop that joint in my neck on my own.
  17. I have a very healthy plant with new growth very close to a WiFi router. I'm not sure I trust their research.
  18. I switched my youngest from CLE LA to WTM and he dislikes it equally as much. I'm thinking about going back to CLE. Is your DH teaching it? They really do cover the same concepts. It is just a different presentation.
  19. You really need to eat at least the exercise points. You need them to sustain your energy and metabolism. It will also keep you satisfied. This isn't suppose to be a diet but an eating plan and cutting back that much will leave you hungry and grumpy in a few weeks. You will find your energy depleting as well. WW really does know what they are doing and you will lose weight even if you eat every single point they give you. 26points is the lowest level so that will be your target until maintenance. And expect bad weeks. I would go two weeks with a slight gain and then end up with a 3 pound loss. You will see a pattern in about 3 months. Don't get discouraged by weird weight loss patterns. Good luck! I lost 25 pounds this year.
  20. Do you have a smart phone? You could pull it up on that and read. I have a Windows Surface and Kindle Fire too. It's not much different than a book with the right device. We often sit at the dinning room table if I need to read something off my laptop. Save cuddle time for fiction.
  21. Have you read The Core by Leigh Bortins yet? When you read it, it will make sense why they say that. And some people really do only use the memory work for Geography, Science, and History especially with a grammar level student. It is a complete curriculum to a number of CCers.
  22. You can use CC solely as memory work. You will still have the freedom to structure your homeschool however you like.
  23. I have used them for years and have never seen free shipping. It's still a decent price even with the shipping costs.
