Things to do in the Detroit/Toledo area

I am looking at various things to do.   We have done the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village a few times and I am shocked at the current prices!   But we may go there again if we get too bored.

Put N Bay?   Looking at that for a day....rent kayaks, shop, eat, museum, etc.....any opinions or things to do specifically would be helpful.

Other things?

We will be visiting family and DH's family is near there and my cousin has moved to the area and my birth mother and birth sister are in Detroit.   But we will also need a few things to do.

Thanks!,

We did this canal ride many years ago and it was fun:  https://metroparkstoledo.com/features-and-rentals/canal-experience/

We also did African Wildlife Safari Park on that trip and we all loved it but that might be too far out of your way.  Toledo Zoo is very nice and I've heard the art museum is great but we didn't get there.

Great ideas, I will start looking them up.   The Wildlife Safari Park is not that far from Sandusky......Cedar Park.....but we prob won't do that.   A canal ride sounds fun.   I will start looking.

Interesting.   I have not heard of it.   The conservatory is closed but maybe it will open by summer.

The aquarium is what I was going to recommend too. It's been over 15 years since we were there so it's possible it's changed a lot, but I remember it as quaint and old fashioned yet surprisingly wonderful.

Another Belle Island vote...we loved it. There's the aquarium and conservatory and Great Lakes museum...you can also walk about to see the Art Deco marble lighthouse. And the art museum is world class--the Diego Rivera murals are especially impressive.

Thank you for suggesting the canal experience!!! My family was in Toledo this weekend, and that was one of our activities...we had so much fun!!!

Belle Isle! It is a state park now, and just gorgeous.

We like the Toledo Zoo better than Detroit. Detroit had more animals, but the exhibits and habitats at Toledo are, in my opinion, much nicer, and the zoo is more compact.

The Detroit Institute of Art is cheap admission, worth every penny.

You might be able to score tickets to Meadowbrook at Oakland University for a D.S.O. concert in the park. The cost isn't bad for sifting on the hill on the grass. Blanket or lawn chairs, your choice. They are evening concerts so the sun isn't strong, and usually the temperature is pretty nice.

Thanks all.   Keep em coming if you have any more suggestions.  I am not sure we are going to go when we had planned now that we need to get the house ready to sell.   We may go later in the summer or over Thanksgiving break.   We will see.
