Alicia64
Hi Everyone, I've had this idea in the back of my mind for a long time. I'm going for it in 2019. I'd love your feedback, but please go easy. Your opinions really matter to me. I should add: it was suggested to me to not write about religion in this article. https://www.thelily.com/december-was-turning-into-a-stress-fest-heres-how-i-decided-to-reclaim-the-holiday-season/ Alley
Pen
I thought it was really funny!! I hope it was meant to be! I think glass of chard should be changed. Chardonnay?
Alicia64
((((Pen)))) Your rock. Thank you for saying it's funny: it's supposed to be. The chard was just a silly/fun nickname. A million thank yous.
Acadie
Congrats on The Lily/Washington Post byline! I enjoyed reading this, and in the midst of racing around for Christmas, it gives me ideas for next year. Amy

sdobis
I enjoyed the article. It made me want to prep better for next year! I seriously dislike all of the holiday hoopla.

AmandaVT
Love it - Great article! Part of me really likes the hustle and bustle of last minute stuff in December, but I can definitely see myself stealing a few of these ideas!
Carol in Cal.
That was great! One thing you might consider doing in Jan is hosting a toy swap for unwanted or surplus gifts. Another is visiting the thrift stores in good parts of town--that's a great time of the year to find fancy Christmas clothes that you can put away for next year, or even unused surplus toys.
Monica_in_Switzerland
Ok, I really can't figure out if the article is satire or not. 😂 The idea is so absolutely over the top to me (I love our thrown-together simple Christmases!) to prep all year, and yet your tips actually ARE well thought-out. Either way, the article is well-written and is as effective as a how-to as it is as satire. 🤣 3
Guest
The article is great! The best idea in there (for me) was Christmas cards from Costco - $13.99/50?! Who knew! This year I slashed several card recipients from my long card list, including some I thought I could surely never eliminate. I do feel, for me personally, I don’t tend to over-do Christmas. Gift-wise, I now have fewer gifts than ever and no toys. I also have certain “holidates” I do certain things, because it doesnt work otherwise. The weekend after Thanksgiving is time to decorate; my college kids are home and that does work well. I have taken photos to be are card photo in July or August when we’re on vacation.

I do love the idea of keeping the stockings on hangers in the closet and filling all year. And of noting what gift-cards you give to what group of people, so you can change it up. Thanks for sharing the article with us!

Shoeless
I liked it! And I do think I will start to prep a few things way in advance, so I have more time to relax and enjoy the season. I wish my holidays could be 100% relaxed and simple, but I have relatives and in-laws who refuse to read that memo and add all sorts of complication and drama to the season. There's prep work I can do in August that will mitigate my irritation with the extended relations come each November. ❤️ Edited December 24, 2018 by MissLemon
