marbel
My daughter is home today with me. She is 18 and a freshman at community college. She has always been a talker and likes contact with me. (Unless I'm asking too many questions about her boyfriend, etc. LOL) But, today she was working on an art project and we hadn't talked for about 30 minutes. So I plugged into an audiobook. Within 5 minutes she was shrieking about something so I had to pause my book and see what was going on. She was just frustrated with something, and said "sorry, go back to your book." Well, I didn't bother for about 30 minutes because I figured I'd hear from her again. But when some time went by, and she was happily working, I plugged in and not 5 minutes later... This happened twice more today (not always in the midst of her art project). I can't read or listen to anything when she is home. I knew little kids had that 6th sense about when mom shouldn't be interrupted, and so interrupted her. I thought it would be over by young adulthood. :-) (Don't get me wrong; I love that she talks to me, wants my advice, etc., etc. But I have been waiting for quiet in my house for many years now... )
GailV
Well, on the bright side you're probably able to go to the bathroom in peace these days. Baby steps!
TravelingChris
Oh I get this. I completely forget about until the next time either of my daughters are here (son doesn't live here and lives in town so is never staying here but just comes visiting). I have that to look forward to next week when daughter 2 moves back here for her new job.

Lady Florida.
LOL! My 20 year old still uses his mom's on the phone radar and decides he needs to speak to me as soon as I get on the phone. There is no hope.
MyLife
Haha. It took me half an hour to read 4 pages this morning. I feel your pain!
Angie in VA
It's not just little kids w/ the 6th sense. It's grown children and spouses. Now when I sit down to read or work on my Bible study, I ask, "I wonder who will interrupt me?" Of course, like you, I'm glad my kids and DH call me, but sometimes their timing is comical.
Ottakee
My kids are the same when I put my audio book on and start doing housework. I might not have seen them for hours but as soon as I push play they appear.
Petrichor
I'm pretty sure I do this to DH... :leaving:
SKL
This happens to me too. And every time I turn the audiobook off and on, I miss some of the words. Sigh!
SKL
I still can't play the piano or have a phone call with my kids around. :/
