ealp2009
I was wondering if we could make a list of homeschool book stores or other favorite local bookstores. I know someone who used to visit Exodus Books everytime she went to Portland. In light of the fact that so many local bookstores are closing because of Amazon and online stores I was thinking we could make a thread with our favorite local bookstore. They don't have to be homeschool bookstores because I know they aren't that common so just list your favorite local bookstore or other favorite place to buy homeschool curriculum and the city and state or country. If you are like me, you would visit a bookstore on your next vacation if you knew it was going to be a good one! Insertcreativenamehere
We have a lovely homeschool store just north of Minneapolis, in Elk River. It's called Heppner's Legacy. http://www.legacyhomeschool.com
Arcadia
My favorite bookstore for hunting for second hand textbooks is the Half Price Bookstores at Dublin, CA and Fremont,CA. We have been to all four NorCal stores. They are in 17 states. They have from time to time: AoPS textbooks and solutions manual, Gardner Art through the Ages Giancoli Physics Halliday Physics Knight Physics Young & Freedman Physics Brown Chemistry Chang Chemistry Tro Chemistry Timberlake Chemistry Campbell Biology Lial Math Bittinger Math Sullivan Math Lay Linear Algebra Triola Statistics https://www.hpb.com/all-stores-list

SilverMoon
I'll second Half Price Books! I haven't been to one I wouldn't recommend. Goodwill can be hit or miss. You have to learn the good neighborhoods. Like the one to the south of us is the one to get the trendy clothing brands but their book section generally stinks, the one to the west is better for books, and the closer you get to the university the better it is for textbooks. Bookmans is fabulous as well. I think this is an AZ only chain. None of those are homeschool specific.
KarenNC
The Homeschool Room, two locations on the outskirts of Charlotte, NC. All consignment. http://thehomeschoolroom.net/The_Homeschool_Room/Welcome.html I'm jealous of those near a Half Price Books! We have really liked those when we travel. For used books, we like to hit Edward McKay in Greensboro, NC, and Mr. K's when we're in Asheville. I've found good books for homeschooling at both. There's also a used bookstore called Fifth Street Books in a little town called Mebane (Meh-ben) outside Burlington, NC that has kid's books for 35 cents periodically and gives a homeschool discount other days (but not a really great selection of other types of books). https://www.facebook.com/fifthstreetbooks/

HomeAgain
Moore Expressions in Virginia Beach/Chesapeake (it's right off the 64 on Indian River Road). They have wacky hours, but everything in their store is homeschool related. New and used.

frugalmamatx
Not specifically homeschool, but invaluable - The Book Cellar, San Antonio, TX {Located in the basement of the central library}. Education section and ultra cheap kids books FEAST Used Book room, San Antonio, TX. They have new items in the regular bookstore, but the used book room is the best. The Texas Thrifts in the area are also great for homeschooling stuff.
....
There are a number of them here: The Center for Home Education in Watauga, TX: http://centerforhomeeducation.com They have a very small bookstore on their campus. There isn't much variety in their curriculum selection, but if you use what they sell, they have a good selection. It seemed like they had every Total Language Plus workbook out there, for example... I've always had good customer service here. Home Educator's Resource in Lewisville, TX: https://www.homeeducatorsresource.com This place has every curriculum you could think of - and used. You can also sell your curriculum to them for money or store credit. They don't give you much for your curriculum, but their used curriculum is also fairly cheap. You could probably make more selling on eBay. *shrug* I've saved a ton of money buying our schoolbooks in there, as opposed to buying new. Mardel: http://www.mardel.com There is one of these like on every corner here. They mostly have Christian curriculum, but they usually have all the big name stuff. I recently picked up our Easy Grammar workbooks from their store. They're kinda pricey, but you can actually see the curriculum in person...and they're cheaper if you just need one item and don't want to pay shipping. Also, this place has a bizarre habit of just having one copy of each item on their shelves. I don't know if they do that to reduce clutter or what, but I have kids very close in age...sometimes, I need TWO copies of something, YKWIM?? Anyway, this is a good place to go when you need a last-minute emergency fractions workbook.
Wheres Toto
The Book Barn in Niantic, CT. They are HUGE, multiple locations, just a fun place to wander around. http://www.bookbarnniantic.com/ I'm about 3-4 hours away but I try to take a trip up there a couple times a year. They have a decent sized education/curriculum section and offer a teachers discount that homeschoolers can get.

Emba
Amarillo TX has A & D Bookstore. It is a teacher/homeschooled supply store in one half and Bibles/religious books in the other. I heard it may close, though how soon I don't know.

shadah
Moore Expressions in Virginia Beach/Chesapeake (it's right off the 64 on Indian River Road). They have wacky hours, but everything in their store is homeschool related. New and used. I've been to this one. Great store. They had so much stuff it was overwhelming. I stayed for hours when I first began homeschooling.
