lots-o-rice
If anyone's kids are bored this summer, here's an idea mentioned by another poster a while ago. Prodigy math (I won't link -don't want to be accused of using the board for membership benefits) My kids call this game Poke-math. It's pretty much Pokemon with math problems. Kids have to "fight" monsters by beating them in a math problem. The math is not just easy stuff, but lots of different kinds of problems. Parents can see progress on the parent page and you can assign specific kinds of problems that you know your kid has issues with. Its more motivating than just 15 problems on a math worksheet. We are doing it for the summer only (probably). It's 8.99 a month or 54.99 for the year per kid. It could be expensive, but just for the summer, it's not bad. And so far for us, it's been worth it. Just an FYI. Hope it's helpful for someone :) -K
maize
My kids love prodigy as well. If someone puts together a group buy the 1year membership drops to $14-$15 per child.
Tress
My kids love prodigy as well. If someone puts together a group buy the 1year membership drops to $14-$15 per child. That would be awesome! I currently have 2 kids begging daily for a membership, but it's too expensive at the moment.
AggieMama
My kids love it too. DD1 asks to play it all day long. I think I need more than one computer in my house for how much everyone loves computer learning!!!!!
nature girl
Anyone know how many you need for a group buy? My daughter keeps begging for membership as well. (I know there's a group that offered a group buy last spring, but DD wasn't really into it then, so we missed the buy.)
sweetpea3829
Anna...you need 30 I think it is, for a group buy. I kind of stumbled into the one that was offered last spring...she's offered it a couple of times. I imagine she'd offer it again if enough people expressed interest!
nature girl
Here's their FB group...Those of us who are interested, maybe we could post a message and all comment? https://www.facebook.com/Homeschoolgroupbuys/?fref=ts
SnMomof7
I have an email in to Prodigy about coordinating a group buy. I could use three memberships myself.

LEK
We love prodigy here! My girls beg to use it daily and have been doing really well with it. We used just the free site for 2 months in the beginning to make sure they were going to keep going with it, just at the end of that period a local homeschool group organized a group buy so we got memberships, they are even more in love now lol, I was not prepared to pay full price for an online game subscription for 2 kids but the group buy price was about $15 per child for the year, heaps better
cintinative
It sounds like this site will organize another group buy for memberships in the fall. This is where I bought my membership from. http://homeschoolgroupbuys.com/prodigy-math-game-group-buy/ Edited August 4, 2016 by cintinative
SnMomof7
Janeway - it's free to play. The membership upgrade is optional. We just started yesterday, but all I've heard is how much the kids need memberships. They are willing to spend allowance. To do math. DD2 said - I'm finally actually learning rounding! Gack! LOL - it's a good thing!
borninthesouth
We always need math practice here. I would love to be in on a group buy. I would even head it up. I have 3 myself. :)
SnMomof7
14.70 Canadian/kid/year I'll set up a FB group :).
debi21
I'm just chiming in to say my son wants a membership but I'm not shelling out full price, so I'm looking for a group buy.
SnMomof7
I don't want this to become a monster-buy (we only need 30 people), but if you go to Facebook and search for Prodigy Buy - Jennifer, ah, okay - here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/groups/279198482458174/ you'll find the group buy I put together...just so my kids could get cheaper memberships ;). It seems pretty straightforward, and I'd like to close August 17th, if possible. Edited August 5, 2016 by Jennifer Bogart

sweetpea3829
If you guys can get together a group buy, I just wanted to chime in that it's SO worth it. My kids loved the game when we were playing the free version...even if they did constantly lament about how they couldn't wear this, or go to this spot or do whatever because they weren't members. But when we upgraded to the membership through a group buy, holy moly, it totally upped the game experience for them. Definitely worth the $15/year/kid.
Ariston
I had no idea there was such a thing as a group buy! My kids used to play but gave it up because they couldn't get anywhere without memberships. I'm good for two! Jennifer just requested to join your fb page.
SnMomof7
I know what you ladies mean...my kids love the free version...but won't.stop.hounding.me! Hosting the buy to preserve my sanity! ;). They want all the stuff.

Ariston
We have a local fb group too that isn't too big (we're a small rural area.). If the group buy needs more people let me know and I'll post it on there--but I won't post it unless you request it :)

nature girl
I just shelled out the money for a month last week as a reward because DD kept begging me...Grrr...But it's only for a month, and I'd definitely be interested in the group buy as well. I just asked to join your page, thanks so much for setting this up! :)

Grantmom
The website says it's always free for educators. Sometimes companies will consider homeschoolers the same as teachers in school. I wonder if that's a possibility? I'm just thinking, as an example, of the way Barnes and Nobles offers it's Educator's Discount to homeschoolers. No, homeschoolers have the groupbuy option but can't get a membership for free. You can still play it for free, without a membership, and have teacher account, without a membership. But there are functions to the website you cannot access without a membership which is what all the kids are asking for (they want their pets to evolve, etc.).
SnMomof7
It is free...or everyone, really - but the membership isn't :). If you or your child check out a game there is a lot of 'members only' gear and benefits built in...they have to finance it somehow, right? :)
SnMomof7
I'd prefer everyone to join the group to stay abreast of communications there. I don't really have the time or mental capacity to send extra emails and messages to individuals with updates, I'm afraid, as much as I might like to accommodate everyone. We have 12 memberships paid so far, so it looks like we are on track for closing on the 17th (one week from today). Thanks!
mommymonster
I just requested "membership" in the closed group. I would like two prodigy accounts. hedwigtheowl
I have joined the FB group and I will buy one membership. Is it a PC game or an app. Either is fine with me!
