My4arrows Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 My kids (8, 6 and 4) want to learn more about habitats, animals and insects. Any curriculum, workbooks or unit studies that you can suggest that would work? It would be for next year. Quote
My4arrows Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 I'd prefer Christian, but either would be okay. Quote
Slache Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Habitats Animals & bugs All of the above Zoology 1, 2 and 3 from Apologia Outdoor Secrets from SCM 106 Days of Creation from SCM Wonders of Creation DVD Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution DVD I haven't used any of these, but I really like Science curricula. :blushing: Quote
Holly Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) My DC enjoyed AIG's God's Design book on animals. It's intended to be completed in 1/3 of the school year, but you could extend it by adding some library books or another AIG book from that series. The One Small Square books are really good for covering habitats. Edited January 12, 2016 by Holly Quote
angelmama1209 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 not actual curriculum, but we think these books are fun. http://www.amazon.com/Easy---Create-Wildlife-Habitats-City-Suburbs-Countryside/dp/0824986652/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1453152157&sr=8-12&keywords=wildlife+habitats http://www.amazon.com/Animal-Habitats-Williamson-Little-Series/dp/0824967569/ref=pd_sim_14_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=51hf2J1RkFL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0NJ8QW6T0A9Y007EWA7B http://www.amazon.com/Kids-Wildlife-Book-Williamson-Books/dp/0913589772/ref=sr_1_27?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1453152518&sr=1-27&keywords=williamson+kids Quote

We mainly using the textbook as a spine, then add library books to further enrich it. Quote
avazquez24 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I also was going to suggest AIG God's Design series. We finished up the book on Animals about a month ago, and the kids really enjoyed it. I love the God's Design series, in that it can be as simple as sitting on the couch and reading together, or if there's a topic we're really interested in, we can add to it by doing research online and getting books or videos about the topic. Bay Lake Mom Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 We've really enjoyed Elemental Science. We've studied animals and their habitats as well as diet. My girls have enjoyed it and retained the info. Quote

SilverMoon Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 You might look at Sassafras Zoology. My nearly 8yo picked it out of a line-up of several samples; we plan to use it next school year. Quote
My4arrows Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 Thanks! I'll check into all of those. I had firgotten about AIGs curriculums! Quote
kiwik Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Download the relevant sections of the free Mr Q life science to use as a base. Edited January 19, 2016 by kiwik Quote
SevenDaisies Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 MP has a Mammals program as well as Insects. They are each intended to be used over a full year. I use a lot of MP but resisted their science materials until recently. We don't us the Tiner books they sell, but we like Mammals, Inssects, Birds and Trees. Quote
vonfirmath Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Something to add to whatever you rchose is WildKratts on pbskids.org. My kids love this show! Agreed. My kids are loving this show too. DD has even decided to make a reindeer habitat based on what she learned from the PBS Kids videos online Quote
Guest Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Real science 4 kids Love it but it doesn't cover animals and habitats unless she added to it in the new editions. Edited January 19, 2016 by Paradox5 Quote
My4arrows Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 Are WildKratts based on animals in general or science in general? We've never seen the show, but I thought I saw them on Netflix? Quote
