indigomama
Legos are huge in our house, but I usually just get whatever I can find in the stores. My DS 7, really loves history this year, and I was wondering are there history themed lego sets? ETA: I got DS 9, the lego Chess set, and it was a huge hit! VeteranMom
They had a castle themed series a couple of years back. I don't know if it was discontinued or not. I looked it up on ebay. Some of the sets can be found under "Kingdoms".
mmasc
Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but have you looked at Lego Architecture sets? You could link some history to them, and they're very cool, IMO. :)
kroe1
Don't forget the pirate sets, too.
Erica in OR
My son was really into the Pharaoah's Quest Egyptian themed sets a couple years ago. Erica in OR
Dmmetler
There is a Lego Education fantasy and historical figures minifig set, and some of the series Minifigs are historical figures as well. For historic elements, Prince of Persia, Lone Ranger, Pharoah's Quest, Castle, and Ninja/Ninjago all can be used quite effectively. We also use Lego along with the history Playmobil sets.
Beaniemom
I was talking to a worker at our local Lego store and a new castle/knights series is coming soon. Edited December 27, 2015 by Beaniemom
linders
Star Wars sets are historical, right? Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away...
Sherry in OH
There are some, but most are discontinued, expensive, and hard to find. Instead of sets, how about projects? You can find many examples of projects online. For example, a labyrinth at http://adventuresinmommydom.org/hands-on-minoan-lesson-plans/.
indigomama
Thanks for all the responses. I will look into all of these!
Erica in OR
Depending where you are, there might be a Bricks & Minifigs store near you. They sell used Lego—sets, minifigs, baseplates, etc. Thank you to the person who mentioned this on the board sometime this year. We found stores in our state have gotten some cool stuff. Carrie12345
I was talking to a worker at our local Lego store and a new castle/knights series is coming soon. Thank you for that! We were disappointed that the last castle series was discontinued, since our little boys have recently expressed interest in Medieval history. Trying to buy retired Lego sets is a serious challenge. You have to find people who have no idea what they're worth!
Garga
If they're 7 and 9, you might want to consider Playmobil. My boys were big into it at those ages and there are tons of historical figures. I bought a few sets to coincide with what we were reading about in history and I'd read the passage then pull out the set. Well...pull out the people. My boys didn't care so much for sets as much as just for the figures. I bought a lot of packs of knights and Native Americans and Egyptions, and Romans (solidiers and families for the last 2).
ScoutTN
For historical interest, we too have shifted to Playmobil. Even discontinued sets are readily availble on Ebay. My kids like mostly the figures, horses and wagons/vehicles/war machines tohugh we have a bit in the way of scene/buildings.

Playmobil is much loved here, and we have many sets. I was just curious if Lego had a similar theme concept as Playmobil. I ended up getting him a Pirate lego set. He'll love it.
