Wildwood
This isn't a classic picture book, but both my girls (ages, 7and II) and I loved it. The story is written from the crayons' perspective and it's hilarious and fun. http://www.amazon.com/The-Crayons-Quit-Drew-Daywalt/dp/0399255370

ALB
I have a list of our favorite books by age here. I would also say almost any of the Five in a Row titles. If I had to pick just a few of my absolute, can't live without, top favorites, I guess they would be Rikki Tikki Tavi, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and the James Herriot collection. Those are favorites of my children and we all have such good memories of them.
