Pamela H in Texas
I would think that would be a known word to an 8th grader....both spelling and vocabulary wise.
AK_Mom4
I voted Monkeys because everyone in my house thought it was spelled it with two L's . . . Including me!
West Coast Mom
Don't have an 8th grader, but my 10 and 12 year old spelled it. They couldn't define it though.
Guest inoubliable
I voted "I don't know". I would think an 8th grader could spell it... My 6th grader could and he's awful with spelling. My 2nd grader got it right, too, but he's a natural speller.
Whereneverever
My third grader spelled it fine, so I'd assume an eight grader could, as well.
Reeciecup
My 9th grader spelled it right and my 6th grader missed it. Neither of them knew what it meant.
Tenaj
11yods just spelled it right but does not know definition.
nd293
Dd12 (about to start 7th) knew the meaning but spelled it incorrectly. I'd expect her to get the spelling correct by 8th grade.
Oak Knoll Mom
My 10yo spelled it correctly. My 7th grader isn't home, but I'm positive he can spell it.
hsmamainva
My 8th grader did. And he knew what it meant to "live in squalor" so he used that to figure out the definition.
Trish
I voted Monkeys because everyone in my house thought it was spelled it with two L's . . . Including me! That's when your clutter is blowing around the house.
Halcyon
My10 yr old spelled it with two Ls.
Dmmetler
My 8 yr old spelled it, but she does spelling bee practice for fun.
TXMomof4
Just asked my 6th grader - she could do it.
MiniBlondes
9 year old could spell it but couldn't define it.
higginszoo
A bit to my surprise, yes. My eighth grader has a pretty good vocabulary (so I figured that she could define it), but her spelling skills have never been particularly good. She has been making more writer friends online lately. I guess that it's paying off.
happypamama
My 10yo spelled it mostly correctly; she's not a great natural speller, but I think by 8th grade she'd have no trouble spelling it. It doesn't seem excessively hard for an 8th grader.
