My favorite song from the 80s is...

Recommended Posts

I can't believe I forgot Aerosmith!

I know! I was just listening to them this past weekend!

As I was reading this post I was wondering who no one would mention the ultimate best of all time - Duran Duran. So, thanks Crazy Coffee Chic. Almost every one you mentioned is a fave of mine.

Recently Duran Duran did a concert that was shown on VH1 and I loved it! I guess you never really grow up ...

Thanks for starting this post - it's bringing back some great memories.

Aw man, I missed that!:glare: I know, when I catch a video or a song, it makes me feel like I'm a teenager all over again! I just get all excited and ds looks at me like I'm going crazy!

Bet no one knows this one--it's really a Kate Bush song from 1978, but Pat Benatar covered it in 1980, so it counts! Listen

Out on the wily, windy moors

We'd roll and fall in green

You had a temper, like my jealousy

Too hot, too greedy

How could you leave me

When I needed to possess you?

I hated you, I loved you too

Bad dreams in the night

They told me I was going to lose the fight

Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering

Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home

I'm so cold, let me in in your window

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home

I'm so cold, let me in in your window

Oh it gets dark, it gets lonely

On the other side from you

I pine a lot, I find a lot

Falls through without you

I'm coming back love, cruel Heathcliff

My one dream, my only master

Too long I've roamed the night

I'm coming back to his side to put it right

I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering

Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home

I'm so cold, let me in your window

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home

I'm so cold, let me in in a your window

Ooh let me have it, let me grab your soul away

Ooh let me have it, let me grab your soul away

You know it's me, Cathy

I also love the Africa song by Toto. (here)

Love Pat Benatar! Hell is for Children is so haunting. She rocks. I'd pay to see her live today!

I think my favorite would be U2, Pride. I also like Echo and the Bunnymen, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark (because who doesn't love a band with that name,) Depeche Mode (A Question of Lust, A Question of Time, Personal Jesus, which might be 90's,) Peter Gabriel, A-ha, Violent Femmes, well I'll stop now. I could go on for a long time.

In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel

A great 80s celluloid moment:

"I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that."

Who said it and in what movie? ;)

Darn it, Jenny, you beat me to it! Say Anything is one of my favorite movies of all time. I can't believe I forgot "In your Eyes". I know how to play that one on guitar.

No, Miss Jenny in Atl, I have converted to CD and MP3.:D

But I did get Honeymoon Suite's Big Prize in the mail the other day. "What does it take" was on the soundtrack form One Crazy Summer....another Cusack film.

"It's not like I've...been mean to you....It's not like I've....got something better to do....."

We have one of those *ion turntables to convert the LPs into MP3s, but It's slow going. We have done a few, and need to do more! Even when I finish, I'm not sure I can part with those well loved LPs from the 70's and 80's.

The Smiths

There is a Light...

Stop it with The Smiths! I'll go all angsty 80s and get nothing done today! "And if a double-decker bus crashes into us, to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die...." Sigh.... Funny that I thought that was the HEIGHT of romance way back when. :D

From my 6 yo:

"That sounds really exotic. Can I go to NationalGeographic.com?"

"That singing really stinks."

"Ok, what IS the point of that song?'

And, that was with all the ear covering!

Does anyone remember Super Freak? - Rick James. :w00t:

My 5 year old said, "Don't play that song at my party. You can play at your party but don't play it at mine."

I have both "Super Freak" and "Brick House" on my ipod in a playlist named "party".

I'm more of a 70's music person, but I liked these:

Radio, Radio - Elvis Costello

Precious - The Pretenders

Good Times Roll - The Cars

When Love Comes to Town - U2 & BB King

Kiss, Kiss, Kiss - Yoko Ono

Don't Come Around Here No More - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Money - Pink Floyd (maybe 90s)

Oh no, 1973 LP Dark Side of the Moon. Almost every stoner party I went to in Jr High and High School played that album over and over. They added the Wall as well in 1982. That along with ACDC's The Jack were big hits in the hot early 80's south.

And remember that Pink Floyd came back with A Momentary Lapse of Reason in the late 80s, I believe. We jammed to that in college. I distinctly remember the track "Learning to Fly" at parties...

I am not sure what my favorite was, but seeing all these song titles is really bringing back memories! Anyone else get that funny tummy tickle when they see some of these titles? Not specific memories, just that "feeling" of being younger?

I don't think I can adequately explain it...just weird!

That's so funny, I just downloaded several songs from the 80's. Was having one of those days where I miss my teens. My favorite are:

Always by Atlantic Starr

Stuck on You by Lionel Richie

Casanova, not sure who sang that one

Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves

Rhythm is going to Get You by Paula Abdul

Everytime You Go Away by Paul Young

I Knew You Were Waiting for Me by George Michael

I met Edie in London after a concert. She's one seriously strange gal. Entire song she lifted her leg (like a male dog) and sang. FUN concert, great memories!!

Oh wow! That is so funny! I can just imagine her doing that.

Yeah... and, I'm thinking I should go on a diet. My tummy tickling is probably a result of my tummy jiggling. And, I tried to do The Bird and my hip got stuck.

What about... :auto: ... Little Red Corvette? That was a good one.

My dh loves Kate Bush. But he can only listen when I am not around. I find her voice sooooo grating. Like cats fighting in a bag, screechy. Can't take it, even for a few minutes. I still find it amazing that others don't have the same "nails on a chalkboard" reaction that I do!

Sheila, you gotta see this one:

Laurel & Hardy Dancing to The Gap Band

and, if you can stand it a little longer:

You Dropped The Bomb on Me - The Gap Band

Man, I had forgotten how raunchy Super Freak is!!!

Couldn't even find a suitable video to share for that one!

I was a hair metal junkie in the 80's!

I love Bon Jovi (still do) and saw them in concert about 10 times. Between the ages of 16 and 23 I never missed a concert if they came near Milwaukee WI. LOL I also saw Def leopard, motley crue, poison, warrant, and many others.

My all time favorite songs from the 80's though would have to be

and Friday I'm in love by The Cure

I also loved a little known Milwaukee band called The Gufs.
