FriedClams
Every year we send board games to our families - brothers, sisters, etc. Last year we sent Quarto. What do you love? Recommend? Play? Most of the families have kids between ages 6 and 12. Some have 2 kids, some 3 but the age spread is pretty constant. Thanks!!
FriedClams
I found Qwirkle - any opinions?
mbholly
We like Qwirkle-good for both kids and grown-ups. It has elements of Scrabble and Set. It is a fun game and doesn't take long to play.
Chris in VA
We had an old "Go To The Head of The Class" with outdated questions--got dd a new one at ToysRUs. It's fun, and there are 3 levels of play. Also liked Ticket to Ride, but that may be harder for the young one.
ProudGrandma
Qwirkle is a great game. This year we found Forbidden Island, Color Stix, Skippidy, Gold Mine and a couple of the Lego games. In the past, most Gamewrite games have been big hits. Labyrinth board game is another fun one. Carsoncaone might be another option for you....but would be harder for the younger crew. Bassoonaroo
Some of our faves: Blockus (original and "trigon") Ticket to Ride Carcasonne (I probably misspelled that) Quiddler (card game) Catch Phrase (not exactly a board game, more like a talking hot potato) Journeys of Paul (nearly all Bible-base games are lame, not this one!) Dominoes (most people already have that though) Upwords Boggle
snickelfritz
I was going to say Blokus. My 6 year old easily plays, but I enjoy it too. No Stress Chess--again, crosses age barriers well because of special rules.
BatmansWife
Q-bitz Qwirkle Pix Mix Skippity Go to mindware.com to check all of these out. They all should have a video too.
snickelfritz
Oh, oh, oh....We all enjoy Mastermind, too.
vonfirmath
We got Tsuro from a friend this year and its a FABULOUS game. Can play with up to 6 players with the contents of the box. And my 4 year old plays with us easily! (even though the game says 8+) (it is against the rules to make a move that would put yourself out of the game unless you have no other choices so we can "let" him change the tile he plays about without breaking the rules at all!) In the Rain
Our family likes Qwirkle. We bought Ticket to Ride this year, but it might be expensive to buy a bunch of them as gifts. We also like Blokus, but only 4 people (or fewer) at a time can play.
LostSurprise
Qwirkle Blokus Ticket to Ride Forbidden Island all good I would add: For Sale~bidding/trading game, you acquire odd houses and then try to sell them for the most money Incan Gold~press your luck game, exploring tunnels for treasure Bohnanza~trading game, planting and harvesting beans, trading sets Bang!~spaghetti western (cheapest, easiest to play with many youngsters) Zooloretto~building a zoo, collecting animals Carcassone~puzzle-like, forming roads, cities, monestaries The Adventurers~like the first 10 minutes of Indiana Jones, outrun a boulder, escape with treasure (A step up, slightly more parts or expense)
ravinlunachick
Any games from Blue Orange are good for the family. We really enjoy Spot It, and even my son who can't speak can play along. :) Carcassonne is great, and there are lots of expansions for them to add as they like. Also, Elfenland, Quoridor, Triplicate, Gold Mine, and Forbidden Island are games we like to play with our 7 yr old.

leeannpal
We just got a game that I used to love when I was younger. It's called Pente, and now it is one of my daughter's favorite games. http://www.amazon.com/Winning-Moves-1145-Pente-Game/dp/B0040H7V5Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324493500&sr=8-

justasque
Pandemic! A cooperative game, perfect for families. Check out www.funagaingames.com - they have all kinds of reviews, and lists of various kinds of games (family, card, board, strategy, etc. etc.). I buy from them every year based on their reviews, and I've never gone wrong.

Ticket to Ride 10 Days in _____________ Oh I have hubby and three adoring SIL or soon to be SILs. They play but I really don't think that they enjoy it as much. Risk is an excellent game that most boys like as is Axis and Allies.
