mom2jjka
The kids named ours "Dora" from "Dora, the Explorer". Ours is Dora, too - because she's got 'the Map' ;)
momofkhm
I'm not sure why, but ours is names Heidi.
Rjmakmom
Ok, now I feel really lame. I have a Tom-Tom...with a female voice...and we just call her Tom! Help me come up with a better name! All my kids have traditional names, and my striped cat is Stripey! Obviously I could use some help with creative naming...
Melinda TX
When my husband was a pilot, the crew called the automated voice "B***ching Betty*, because she only spoke up when something wasn't right. I call our GPS Betty, and the kids have never understood why!!!
livingnlearning
Ours is The Gadget.
Cassy
Daphne. We call my van the Mystery Machine, so the GPS has to be Daphne, or Daffers, more commonly these days. The tom-tom is DH's, I'm very good at finding my way about without one :tongue_smilie:, but when we're all out together we go in the Mystery Machine (his car's too small), and so he transfers it over. We pretend Daphne's his 'other woman' who I deeply resent, so I'm horribly rude to her. I must say, though, she has earned her keep on a couple of occasions. Emily in FL
Our first GPS was Ethel. We had to get a new one and didn't like the female voice on it. We changed to the male voice and called him James (as in "Home, James").

mommyrooch
Yep! Her name is Sassy. She is sassy and always thinks she's right. Even when I know she's not. :D
Maus
We don't have one in the car. The handheld Garmins we use for geocaching don't talk to us, so they don't have names. The navigation on my new smart phone, we call "The Voice." ("Be quiet kids, The Voice is telling mommy how to get there.")
HLDoll
Betty. My husband named it. When he worked on airplanes for the National Guard, they called the voice of the cockpit simulator "*****in' Betty", and he said the female Garmin voice reminded him of that. angel marie
mine is florence after florence nightengale. i'm a nurse and florence "charted the course" for modern day nursing so i thought it was appropiate. sometimes she gives us "too much" in way of explaining directions, but i just chalk it up to her being used to having to deal with doctors, ha!! Kari C in SC
My dh named ours Genie because she goes POOF and you are there.
Ellyndria
I had no idea so many people give their GPS a name. I don't use a GPS. I don't need one. I don't get lost. If I need to know where a new place is, I look it up beforehand, so I can picture the map in my head. I always say I have a map in my head. DH uses a GPS all the time, though, and he has not named his and thinks that's weird. :tongue_smilie:
ChemMommy
We gave it a British male accent and named it "Miles" because we go many miles with it!
nrg
Uncle Matt. Uncle Matt (our real uncle) is a cartographer. The GPS Uncle Matt gets us there "Unclemattically."
hsmamainva
We call ours "Karen" because the voice reminds the kids of Plankton's computer wife on SpongeBob SquarePants and her name is Karen. :) My daughter has a Garmin and she calls it "Carmen". Carmen the Garmin.
