Jean in Newcastle
I tried kick boxing tonight. I'm 64 pounds overweight and was the heaviest and probably the oldest in the class (though one other lady might be my age). I think I'll go again. If I can move tomorrow. . . :001_huh: The actual kickboxing wasn't so bad, though the teacher's idea of taking a breather was to skip rope between sets:svengo: I actually did ok until they did an abdominal workout in the last 5 minutes. I think that actually killed me. And the stretches! They did this one where you go into a plank position and then stick one leg kind of up and then lie on it - anyway I looked at the instructor and then at the mat and just started laughing. I am so stiff that I need help getting up off the ground if I have to get down for any reason - that stretch wasn't happening! So I figure if I start the Ibuprofen now when I'm only mildly in pain that perhaps I'll be able to function tomorrow. (Do you know what the kicker is? The person who talked me into trying this class, didn't come!:glare:)
Unicorn.
Yay for you for going! Remember to acclimate yourself. Wow, I am so impressed. Oh, and here's your ibuprofin.:chillpill::chillpill: (just pretend those say painpill, painpill)
ThatCyndiGirl
Thanks for posting this! I have been thinking about kickboxing for awhile now and wondered what it would be like. Despite your post I think I'll try it anyway!
thescrappyhomeschooler
Wow! I'm impressed. I think kickboxing might kill me. My old-lady line dancing class already does a number on my back when I wake up the next morning! Wash those ibuprofen down with some muscle relaxers! :001_smile:
Jean in Newcastle
Dh said "Are you sure you want to go again? I'm not so sure you would survive it." I might agree with him tomorrow. I'm already walking pretty gingerly and I actually bypassed the Ibuprofen and took two Aleve instead!
Friederike in Persia
Did anybody actually kick anybody else (accidentally)? :001_huh: I do excersise DVDs at home and whenever there are boxing elements I keep wondering about this. MamaT
Wow, I'm impressed. I've thought about taking a kick-boxing class, but was afraid my 47 year-old self wouldn't make it through the class. I'll decide after I hear how you're doing this morning. :001_smile:
BridgeTea
Jean, you rock. Way to go! Your instructor sounds like a real comedian. Skipping rope for a "breather"? That would be when I'd first start laughing! Take some Ibuprofen and get back in there and show 'em what you're made of.
MariannNOVA
Way to go! This one's for you:

Impish
Wooo hooo Jean! WTG!!! Soak in epsom salts. Helps to break down the lactic acid in your muscles, which causes the tightness and soreness. I don't think I would have survived the testing in Karate without it! And, as my comedian of a Sensei said, the only cure for sore muscles is more working out. :glare: If I could have lifted my arms, I *might* have considered smacking him...fortunately for me, it wasn't an option. He would have handed me my hiney.

Jean in Newcastle
Did anybody actually kick anybody else (accidentally)? :001_huh: I do excersise DVDs at home and whenever there are boxing elements I keep wondering about this. No. We kicked and boxed the air. We did box paddles that we held for our partners too ( like this) For those who want to know - I'm still alive. I'm a bit sore but I'm more exhausted than sore! I'm taking a nap today. BridgeTea - my instructor was also a comedian who would start the count of reps over if we didn't shout out the count. By the end, I was loudly counting everything whether the others were or not. There was no way I was going to start over again at one! (She was nice though and talked to me at the beginning about doing things at my own pace.) MariannNOVA - my ds is taking tae kwando and wanted to give me tips when I got home. I said "no thank you, but you could help me up the stairs".

RoughCollie
For those who want to know - I'm still alive. Well, that's good. I bet you are raring to go to do it again. I admire that; I really do.

Kim in Appalachia
Way to go! It's hard to start something new, and kickboxing looks so intimidating. That you want to go back is great. The soreness will pass. :001_smile:

I didn't even think about the other until now.

jenL
Yay for you for going! I NEED to get my butt to a class like that, but I am an excellent excuse maker as to why I "can't" go. Way to go!!!!
MSNative
Way to go!! Just so you know, I am a fitness instructor and a good kickboxing class can kick my .... ahem, too. Those classes are tough. I've heard a beer after class helps your muscles recover. I don't like beer, but two Aleve and a glass of wine help me. :)

Jean in Newcastle
Other than being exhausted and sore, did you like it? Amazingly, yes. I think I would absolutely hate an hour DVD of it. But somehow being in a class was challenging but fun too.
