Bug's Mom
I forgot to post about this. Last Friday a garage sale ad in the newspaper caught my eye. The phrase "quilt/yarn store inventory" made me think that it was at least worth checking out. Wow. There were 3 LONG tables of fabric and other sewing items and 1 long table full of yarn. Really nice yarn, for the most part. At first, I was bummed because the prices on the tags didn't seem like much of a deal. Then...I saw the sign on the wall. It said "yarn - $1 a skein"...:hurray: I grabbed 28 skeins and a book. I also texted my knitting friends. When I got home I posted a pic of my haul, and so did they...which made me realize that I missed some really nice stuff, so dd & I hopped on our bikes and went back for more. On our knitting group's fb page, people have posted stuff like: "You are like our magical Fairy Goddess Yarn Mother Today!", "I think I got my yarn needs quenched from that garage sale that will now become a mythical legend among knitters." and "I will think about that garage sale for the rest of my life. $1.00 a skein." It. Was. Amazing.

raceNzanesmom
Wow! $1/skein would be awesome even for cheap stuff. It looks like you have some nice quality yarn there. How sweet of you to share. :D To neenee7: quality yarn can easily be $10 or more per skein. Ultra nice is $$$$. Even cheap stuff can run $5-6 per skein. Bug's Mom
Forgive my ignorance...what does a skein usually cost? (non sewer here) It varies, depending on the yarn. The stuff I bought was mostly originally $7-$9 a skein. The larger sock yarn skeins would be more like $15-$17.
Sebastian (a lady)
Wow. Just wow. (Do I get my badge now?) Really, I think I recognize some of the skeins from my ongoing projects. I can't believe you scored them for $1 ea. Way to go.

Slartibartfast
Forgive my ignorance...what does a skein usually cost? (non sewer here) I would guess that is at least $400 worth of yarn, and that is on the low side
Bug's Mom
I would guess that is at least $400 worth of yarn, and that is on the low side Very good guess! I just added it up (most had tags, the sock yarn I guessed) and came up with $407.84, including the book...for $43. :tongue_smilie:
