I need some help figuring out how to assign the grade for Geometry when it's part of Algebra 2 and Advanced Math. There are three ways we can proceed for the next three years and I'm trying to figure out which makes sense for us. Option 1 - 1 credit for each year and the grade is based on the year of work Grade 10 - Jacobs Geometry - Course title: Geometry Grade 11 - Saxon Advanced Math - Course Title: Pre-Calculus Grade 12 - Calculus - Course Title: Calculus Option 2 - 1 credit for each year and the grade is based on the year of work Grade 9 - Saxon Algebra 2 - Course Title: Algebra 2 with Geometry Grade 10 - Saxon Advanced Math - Course Title: Pre-Calculus with Geometry Grade 11 - Saxon Calculus - Course Title: Calculus Option 3 - 1 credit for each year and the Geometry grade is based on ???????? Grade 9 - Saxon Algebra 2 - Course Title: Algebra 2 Grade 10 - Saxon Advanced Math - Course Title: Geometry with Advanced Algebra Grade 11 - Saxon Calculus - Course Title: Trigonometry with Pre-Calculus Grade 12 - Saxon Calculus - Course Title: Calculus It's option 3 that is confusing me. How do I assign a Geometry grade when part of the course is in grade 9 and part of the course is in grade 10? If I just grade using the school year, it seems that the Geometry grade is missing the first semester of Geometry. In order to include all the Geometry, do I need to figure out which lessons in Algebra 2 were Geometry and move those grades to the following year? I am probable overthinking this. However, we need to make a decision fairly quickly since the school year has already begun. My daughter has been working in Jacobs but I'm not sure that's the best route anymore.

Here's my plan for next year; English: Academic Writing (at co-op) Math: Jacob's Geometry Science: Apologia Biology Social Studies: Introduction to Geography (at co-op) Occupational Ed: R&S Recordkeeping Fine Arts: Piano PE w/ Health (mix of co-op and at home and using Total Health curriculum) Electives: Sewing (at co-op)

Hi, She is doing the Self-Paced version online so there was only optional writing required. We did not add anything to the course but tried adding Write Shop as a separate writing program. It was too much and didn't get done this year. Rod & Staff English has enough writing so we felt like that was enough for this year. Next year we are dropping a couple of things so that we can focus more on writing. My daughter feels that the reading can be a bit overwhelming. We have had to prioritize Omnibus so that it takes priority so she doesn't fall behind. It doesn't help that we have short school year this year because of big trip. I've got a bunch of information to write my own course descriptions. I'll probably give a try this weekend.

My daughter is taking Omnibus I Primary and Secondary. Although she is only in 7th grade I'm trying to get a handle on how to create a transcript for her. I would like to know what I'm doing before high school. I know that this is the high school board but I thought you guys would have the answers since this is the time period when most transcripts are created. I understand that by taking both primary and secondary she earns 3 credits in the following classes: World Medieval History I Doctrine & Theology II World Medieval LiteratureI Her grade for all three classes will be the average of her primary and secondary grades as per a phone conversation with Veritas Press. They have been very helpful but I'm still confused about a couple of things. Do I need to denote on her one-page transcript that the class was taken online through Veritas Press Scholars Academy? How do I write the course descriptions? Do I write 3 different descriptions for each class or do I write descriptions for primary and secondary using the actual Omnibus course title and then mention that it resulted in the credits and classes listed on her transcript? Where do I get these course descriptions? Course descriptions is the one that I am really struggling with. For those of you who have done VP Self-paced Omnibus, what did you do on your transcript and for your course descriptions?

We are really struggling to get writing done. My older daughter is using WriteStart this year and my younger daughter is using IEW. They both seem like good programs but we run out of time and I admit it's the first thing to drop in a crunch. I've been kicking around an idea for the past few months that we drop writing until summer and then do an intensive writing class for a few weeks. I'm thinking of how the IEW dvds were done in an intensive class. That way they can just focus on writing. Has anybody done a summer intensive in place of going slower throughout the year? How did it work out?

Thanks! I just ordered one case. I have a daughter that LOVES to make books.

I had a cleaning service for 4 months last year when I was recovering from surgery. I've been lobbing DH ever since to get them back and make it permanent. Until I succeed I'll keep trying to find a balance. My girls are old enough to help more but not quite old enough to be very thorough. The basics get done okay but the detail cleaning tends to only get done when it gets bad.

We really love the Hymns for a Kid's Heart series from Focus on the Family. It's a CD with a book. The book gives small devotional and also includes information on how the song came to be written and about the composer. The series is a set of 4 books with 13 songs in each book.

I also have the Golden bible and tried using it. It works okay but it doesn't contain all the stories that the cards have. Half way through the year I ended up purchasing the Illustrated Bible and it works much better. It can be done but you will have to do some tweaking and editing of the chapters. I have never looked at the Scholar's plan so I don't know anything about them. My kids LOVED the workbooks but I found that they became busy work toward the end of preschool because they quickly passed their level because of the other things we were using. I still have a couple of them that we didn't get through but I know my younger daughter will happily use them on her own through the summer. BTW, I used the workbooks in Preschool and only used the Book B (the bible stories) in Kindergarten. I never got back to finish the workbooks this year because of the busywork aspect.

Well, I was going to type out a long reply but after I read SilverMoons response I'll just agree with her and say "I love the cards!" I'm using the Bible and the History and will start year 3 in the fall. In the first year there are some weeks where they are the same card. In those weeks I combine the two subjects and only have them do one test. We bought most of the books because we like to use them at our convenience and most of them are so good that I can see using them for a long time. I have the paperback teacher's manual AND the enhanced CD. I find printing the worksheets and projects easier from the CD but I also like being able to pull the book down for correcting work and looking something up quickly. I don't know if this helps but I'll outline what our schedule looks like doing Year 2 with a 3rd grader: Mon: Read the card, the bible story out of the Illus. Bible and any selected references. Tue: Have my daughter read the cards, outline the cards using the IEW method and do the worksheet. Wed: Have my daughter use her outline to narrate back to me what the cards say, read any additional selected resources and do a history project. Thu: Read the card to my daughter and any other additional resources and do a bible project. Fri: Tests This schedule is for both the Bible and History cards. It doesn't usually take very long and I am only actively involved on Mon, Wed and Thu. In a couple of years I'll combine my daughters for Bible and History. I will print out different projects for them because of their age difference. I hope this helps!

1. Did you laminate them? No, I put them in half size sheet protectors and use a small binder. It's really easy to flip through them and they have stayed nice. 2. Did you combine them or practice the timelines separately? Keep them separate. 3. Did you use the song CD? We did the first year but not this year. 4. Did you spread them across a wall or did you just pull them out like flash cards to flip through? I keep them in the book but at the beginning and end of each year I pull them out, combine them and line them up on the floor for the visual effect and to reinforce the concept of the Bible/History timeline.

My daughter is really enjoying Answers in Genesis - God's Design for Science series. This is our 2nd year using it. It can be used up to 8th grade.
